Over the past 15 months, MayorAnthony Fanucci has brought a dis-tinctly pro-business approach to citygovernment which comes from hisbackground in the private sector. Hisprogressive economic development poli-cies are encouraging the entrepreneurialspirit and attracting new capital invest-ment in industries like Food Processing,Cold Storage, and Scientific Glass.

“Selecting the right location is a keycomponent of any strategic businessmodel,” Mayor Fanucci said. “Companiesmust look for the right blend of incen-tives, workforce, municipal infrastructure, and business climate to be successful. TheCity of Vineland offers these advantages, and much more. Our economic develop-ment team provides a one-stop sourcefor moving projects forward through thedevelopment and approval process.”

For example, the Florida based foodcompany Pero Farms was looking toestablish a new location in the North-

east and found what they were lookingfor in Vineland. Following approval of aNew Jersey Economic DevelopmentAuthority (NJEDA) Grow NJ award total-ing $19 million in tax credits over 10years, the company plans to invest $13million to construct a new 118,400square-foot production facility whichwill employ over 200. “We are excited atthe prospect of building Pero’s presencein the Northeast and see Vineland as astrategic point for meeting the growingdemand for our products,” said Presidentand CEO Frank Pero.

“Vineland offers many distinct logis-tical advantages, including access toNew York and New Jersey ports, and theNew Jersey and Pennsylvania Turnpikes,”NJEDA CEO Melissa Orsen said. “The areais emerging as a hub for companies ofall sizes and industries that recognizethe benefits of a South Jersey presence.”

In fact, Vineland’s proximity to portfacilities has led to a surge in the city'scold storage sector, which alreadyincludes over 30 million cubic feet ofcapacity. Existing companies which areexpanding including First Choice Freezerand Cold Storage, and new operationslike Legacy Cold Storage, which is refur-bishing a 50,000 square-foot facility andadding an additional 42,000 square-feetof new space, are helping to fill growingcustomer demand for a variety of serv-ices including warehousing, packaging, and national distribution to major retail-ers like Walmart, Costco, and Sam’s Club.

“Exporters in countries around theworld need to know their perishableproducts will be handled in a clean, secure facility with state-of-the-arttemperature control, and that they willbe repacked in the most attractive way,”said Vineland Economic DevelopmentDirector Sandy Forosisky.

The city’s scientific glass industry isalso making international news. CorningGlass recently announced a 26,000square-foot expansion of their Vinelandfacility to support the production oftheir revolutionary new Valor Glass.

Smaller operations like RichlandGlass, which designs and produces glassand quartz components and assembliesfor electronics, lighting, medical, andindustrial clients, is also expanding. Thecompany had considered a move toeither Pennsylvania or Delaware butstaying in Vineland ultimately made themost sense. “There are different advan-tages to different areas and the city hasbeen a good home for us,” RichlandPresident Jack Carson said. “Glass work-

ing is a bit of an inherit skill in andaround Vineland. That helps in terms ofhiring talented people.”
