The core of MEX II is represented by a new modulator card that implements all the modulation, control and supervision functions.
HIGHQUALITYRF SIGNALAll operations necessary for the generation of
a high quality RF signal, in accordance with all analog and digital television standards are completely performed by a Real Time Digital Signal Processing using a FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array).By loading two different firmware in the memory card, the modulator can operate as Dual Cast, with the possibility to switch from analog to digital transmission with a simple command (local or remote).
In addition to the standard ATV and DTV inputs, when the exciter operates in one of the DTV modes, a Giga Bit Ethernet (GbE) port, able to receive up to four MPEG-2 Transport Streams, can be integrated.
The exciter can be equipped with a RF receiver with two available inputs to implement the adaptive pre-correction and the transmitter output power measurement (power meter). The receiver can be provided with a DVB-S/S2 tuner, to extract a MPEG-2 transport stream from a satellite link, or with a DTV receiver, to implement a regenerative transposer.
The modulator card includes also an input for the measurement of the reflected power.
The baseband digital I/Q signal generated by the FPGA is directly converted to RF (bands I, II, III, IV and V) by means of a RF DAC.In DTV mode, a pre-equalization function (to compensate for linear distortions of the output filter) and a predistortion function (to compensate for non linear distortions of the high power amplifier) are available, both using fully automatic adaptive algorithms.
MEX IIMULTIMODE TV EXCITER
The exciter is equipped with an internal 10 MHzreference that can be locked to an external one.
In case of external reference loss, the system keeps on generating the internal reference maintaining the accuracy of the external one without discontinuity. A software routine estimates the frequency and time drift allowing the RF muting when these drifts overcome a settable threshold. When the external reference returns, a software procedure assures a soft re-lock without discontinuity. An internal GPS receiver is available to provide a high accuracy frequency reference and to allow MEX II operation in a Single Frequency Network (SFN).

THE NEW MULTIMODE EXCITER, MEX II COLLECTS ALLITELCO-ELECTROSYS EXPERIENCE IN DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING.
MEX II IS AN INNOVATIVE AND COMPACT EXCITEROBTAINED BY OPTIMIZATION AND SIMPLIFICATION OF THE RELIABLE MEX EXCITER INTO ANEW GENERATION PLATFORM.
The control and supervision of the exciter are guaranteed locally with graphical display and keyboard, remotely through Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP v1/v2c/v3) and Web Server on Ethernet interface. All parameters available on the display can be accessed remotely.
On the exciter front panel, a USB connection is also available. It can accommodate a pen-drive to save the history log or load/save settings (HOST), or can be used for a connection to a PC to carry out monitoring, supervision or maintenance (DEVICE). The remote control and supervision are possible by using two methods: by means of Web browser displaying HTML pages (independent from platform), or by downloading and installing on PC (MS Windows OS) Electrosys proprietary software. A control through the USB port is possible with proprietary software.HTML pages can use SSL encryption techniques on HTTPS connections.
SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is used for events notification (such as SNMP TRAP) to five different destination addresses.
The NTP protocol provides synchronization of the internal RTC (Real Time Clock) with one or more NTP servers.
The administration operations and the management of the relevant parameters are performed using Telnet andFTP (File Transfer Protocol) protocols.
The MEXII remote management is regulated by three privileges of access that determine the action possibilities based on the user level:• Administrator: full control;• Configurator: operative settings;• End User: check of the exciter and some
simple settings.

In case of MFN operation, bit rate adaptation by inserting or discarding null packets is performed and, in order to avoid PCR jitter, PCR restamping is done.
The modulator continuously checks the input transport stream to find any first priority error (according to TR 101 290); in case of error, it can switch to the other input. If the two input transportstreams are identical, the switching is seamless.
For test purposes, a contiguous block of carriers can be switched off or, on the contrary, can be switched on.

The modulator is fully compliant with ATSC specifications.
The system clock can be locked to the input data(the input bit rate must be 19.392658 Mbit/s) or to the 10 MHz reference (internal, external or from the integrated GPS receiver); in this case the bit rate adapter (described in the DVB-T/H section) allows the exciter to accept any input bit rate.
The modulator continuously checks the input transport stream to find any first priority error (according to TR 101 290); in case of error, it can switch to the other input.
Optionally, if the two input transport streams are identical, the switching is seamless.
Both pre-distorter and pre-equalizer can be adaptive.
The modulator is compliant with EN 302 755, ETSI TS 102 773 DVB-T2 specifications, and is able to manage multiple PLP (up to 8) and MISO transmission for SFN.
Moreover it supports T2-MI protocol to extract synchronization and configuration from the DVB-T2 Gateway.
A complete set of test modes are available to make the user able to perform tests without inputs.
