INTRODUCTION

Ambe Steels Pvt. Ltd. was established in September 2009 in Lumbini Zone at Gonaha VDC, nearby Bhairahawa city. It has been set up to manufacture TMT steels by using Thermex technology of Germany.

1. Ambe Steel - Thermex TMT Bars

TMT is an acronym for the phrase "Thermo-Mechanical Treatment".

During the last few years the civil engineering sector has increased its demand for low cost reinforcing steel bars with a guaranteed yield point of 500N/mm2.

PRODUCTION PROCESS

Quenching:

The hot rolled bar that leaves the final mill stand is rapidly quenched by a special water spray system. This hardens the surface of the bar to a depth optimized for each section through the

formation of martens tic rim. The core remains hot and austenitic.

Self Tempering:

When the bar leaves the quenching box, the core remains hot compared to the surface. The core allows heat to flow to the surface tempering the outer martens tic layer into a structure called Tempered Marten site. The core still remains austenitic at this stage.

Atmospheric Cooling:

This takes place on the cooling bed where the austenitic core is transformed into a ductile ferrite pearlite structure. The final structure consists of an optimum combination of a strong outer layer (Tempered Marten site) with ductile core (ferrite-pearlite). This gives Ambe TMT its unique combination of strength and ductility.
