Calendars are booking up quickly now that “Corvette season”
is upon us all. The temps go up, the pollen falls, and we hit
the roads in search of cruises, shows, autocrosses, or a simple
road trip to a favorite ice cream shoppe. Just in case you
have some gaps in your schedule, here are a few things you might want to add
which have AACC members running around.
June 1: Liberty Region’s Show and Easton’s Cruise
June 2: Tri-County’s Brodheadsville Show
June 15: Meguiar’s Wax Clinic @ Faulkner Chevy (Bethlehem)

Sun., May 5 — Springfest 2013 is one for the record books. Event organizers, Marty & Laura Hegyi once again outdid
themselves by organizing a smooth-running show. Personally, I thought they both seemed more relaxed this year than
in years past, and I’m sure that is a testament to all the AACC volunteers who chipped in during the day. Whether you
helped with parking, registration, 50/50 tickets sales, door prizes, Tricky Tray setup or ticket sales, event photography,
awards preparation or presentation, or general site setup or clean-up, everyone came together as only AACC can do.
It’s thank to each of YOU that this show was another success!!
Whether you missed Springfest completely or were just looking the other way, maybe you’ll see something new or a
fond memory in this selection of images from the campus of DeSales University...

Adam Recke Benefit Len Feinberg (‘13) Sat., May 18 — A small group from both clubs headed over to Stabler Arena last night for the Steelhawks game that
benefited the Race For Adam. It was a pretty fast game as the field is only 50 yards long. The game moves pretty quick-
ly. There were quite a few activities and games for the kids both during the game and at half time. It was also very loud
in the arena between the fans and two guys with drums and horns. It is interesting as you are right next to the action.
The distance between the out of bounds and the fans is about three feet. If the ball gets tipped or goes into the crowd,
you get to keep it.

Cruise to the Gap Len Feinberg (‘13) Sun., May. 19 — Well, it was a beautiful day in the neighborhood, unfortunately that neighborhood was NOT Wind
Gap. It was cold, drizzling, damp, then raining. Not an ideal day for a car show. However, members from both Allen-
town and Easton clubs braved the conditions with their Corvettes (not me personally, I took my truck). There was plen-
ty to eat and some vendors were set up, although they did not appear to be doing much business.

Bethlehem Memorial Day Parade Mon., May 27 — The Lehigh Valley Military Affairs Council invited AACC to participate in our first Memorial Day Parade
and it was a terrific event under blue skies. Staging of our 16 cars was efficient and orderly. The parade started at 9
a.m. sharp, and traveled a short distance to Memorial Park Cemetery where a poignant 45-minute ceremony honored
our fallen servicemen and women. There were three different bands playing patriotic music, speeches and readings by
local politicians and school children, a wreath-laying ceremony, a dove release, and a rifle salute. It was a beautiful day
and we hope to be invited to future events celebrating America’s soldiers.

Official GM C7 Torque and HP Salvatore Alaimo (Corvetteonline.com) Tue., May. 28 — The 2014 Corvette Stingray, since its unveiling, has proven to be one of the most dramatic changes in
the Corvette lineup since the introduction of the previous C6, quite a few years back. Earlier this year on an episode of
“Jay Leno’s Garage,” Leno himself described the C7 as being one of the General’s most significant Vette manifestations
in a long time, saying, “It’s probably the most dramatic change in Corvettes since they went from the mid-’60s, Mako
Shark to the C6,” says Leno.
...Jay Leno is excited about the introduction of the C7 Stingray and so are we, and ever since images of and rumors
about the latest member of the Vette family have started to leak out, we’ve made every effort possible to make this
information known to our readers. Up until this point, however, we had no official horsepower or torque figures on the
’14 Vette, as all that had been publicly promised for the LT1 was “at least 450″ ponies.
Thanks to GM, however, we can now safely assume that the fixed numbers on the C7 in coupe form are 455 horses
with 460 feet pounds of twist, numbers that come to us directly to us from the General’s media site. These statistics so
far are the ones accepted as the “final” authority, and according to one of Corvette7′s site administrators, this is
because the “EST” acronyms remain next to the convertible’s figures, while the coupe’s are etched in stone.
It goes without saying that the C7 has brought a series of firsts to the Vette nameplate, among these being a Euro-
influenced eye for styling, a refined interior space and the reintroduction of GM’s “LT” engine code. While we’re not
sure what the future will be for Corvette, from what we’ve seen so far it’s looking pretty good!
UPDATE: Per media.GM.com, the SAE-certified numbers are 460 horsepower (343 kW) at 6,000 RPM and 465 lb
-ft of torque (630 Nm) at 4,600 RPM, with the available performance exhaust system. The Stingray is SAE-
certified at 455 horsepower (339 kW) and 460 lb-ft (624 Nm) with the standard exhaust system.
C7 Corvette to Appear in Transformers 4 Rick Seitz (Corvetteonline.com) Wed., May. 29 — Now that it’s become well known that there will be a fourth installment of Transformers franchise,
details about some of the cars that we’ll be seeing in the next film are beginning to surface. According to Yahoo Movies
UK, Optimus Prime is getting a complete, customized makeover and we’ll be seeing at least two new Autobots, both of
undisclosed names as of this writing.
Whether or not Bumblebee will return in his 5th-Gen Camaro guise is unknown, although we do know for sure that a
C7 Corvette and a Bugatti Veyron GS Vitesse will be starring along side of ‘Prime. It’s too soon to know if theses [sic]
new characters/cars will be acting as replacements...or if they’ll become welcome additions to the set.
Either way, seeing a legit C7 (and not that hideous concept car from the last film) making an appearance in this movie is
a welcome change. We can only assume that the C7s used were pre-production examples sourced from GM, and that
they have been left relatively stock apart form their lime green paint jobs, rear wing, and side rocker panels.

Jim Harbaugh to Pace Indy 500 in 2014 Corvette Stingray
May 23 | Jim Harbaugh, head coach of the NFL's San Francisco 49ers, will drive the all-new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette
Stingray Pace Car to lead the pack of 33 racers to the start of the 97th running of the Indianapolis 500 this Sunday.
Harbaugh, who took the 49ers to the Super Bowl this year, is no stranger to Indianapolis - serving as a quarterback for
the Colts NFL team 1994-1997.
Harbaugh is also a racing fan and a principal at Panther Racing, which fields the two-car, Chevrolet-powered IndyCar
team including the No. 4 National Guard Chevrolet and the No. 60 Sunoco "Turbo" Chevrolet.
The Groves Join One Acre Club
May 23 | Ron Grove’s passion for cars and auto racing began when he was a young
boy. Model kit cars were eventually replaced with a ’55 Chevy when he was fourteen
and he spent the next couple years fixing it up till he was legal to drive. Forty-five years
later he still has this car! Being young in the ‘60s and early ‘70s was a great time for
muscle cars and auto racing. Corvettes were a dream back then, but he always knew
that he would have one someday. That ‘someday’ came when he spotted a ’78 Silver Anniversary off to the side of a
used car lot. The whole car needed a lot of work . . . it was perfect! Several years later while attending a local Corvette
show, a photographer/editor approached Ron about his car. The Corvette was now of show quality to be featured in-
side an issue of “Corvette Enthusiast” magazine doing a tribute to the Silver Anniversary. Ron joined the National Cor-
vette Museum in the early 90’s as a Founding Member and traveled 12 hours from Pennsylvania for the grand opening.
He and his wife Jessica are Lifetime Members of the NCM as well as Duntov Society Members.
Recently they joined the Motorsports Park One Acre Club. “With Corvette Racing being a special part of our lives, it just
makes sense to support the racing facility as part of the NCM . . . and to provide Corvette Racing an opportunity to test
and practice on a track that they helped design is awesome. . . what a great destination! I encourage all NCM members
to get involved with the Motorsports Park. No other sports car has a museum and racing facility that is supported by
enthusiasts like the Corvette Museum. That is a tribute to the Corvette passion in all of us . . .so jump in!”
Ron and Jessica foresee a Museum Delivery of a C7 in the near future! “Just another item on my Corvette bucket list!”

Page 16 Allentown Area Corvette Club ‘Vetter’s Letter | Vol. 20, Iss. 6 | June 2013
Sat., Aug. 3 – This event was initially discussed at the May 22nd meeting. Although it didn’t seem like there was enough
interest, the event organizer would still like to have a Corvette
display. (He would prefer to have a variety from the genera-
tions.)
Details: Schnecksville Fairgrounds. 11am-5pm.
(Must be on grounds for whole event.) Rain-or-shine.
Free admission. $5 wine tasting fee.
The event organizer, Upstate Wine Country, hosts similar events
throughout the northeastern states; this is their first event in
this area and could be a nice opportunity to get involved on the
ground floor. Visit www.UpstateWineCountry.com to get an
idea of their events and for more information.
Display cars are being given a nice incentive (free admission and $5 tasting) as the walk-in price is $25 for admission
and wine tasting (or $5 for designated drivers).
I would like to prepare a custom display board for your car as part of this display. Please contact me (610-530-0923,
[email protected]) if you are able to participate.
Think About It Wed., Aug. 28 – Election Night. Think about stepping up and making a difference in the Allentown Area Corvette Club.
All offices and two (2) Board of Director positions will be filled. Eligibility requirements will appear in our July news-
letter. In the meantime, if you are genuinely interested in running for an office or board seat, please speak with the
current office holder(s) or refer to the most recent copy of our Club Constitution.
Outgoing President, Frank Shuletsky, will lead nominations at each of the July and August meetings. These nonima-
tions culminate at our final August regular meeting (Wed., Aug. 28th) with Election of Officers for AACC’s 2013-2014
calendar year.
