4 Key Terms Global Location Number (GLN) The Global Location
Number (GLN) is a GS1 standards-based, globally unique, 13-digit
number used to identify locations and supply chain partners. GLNs
can be used to identify a functional entity (like a hospital
pharmacy or accounting department), a physical entity (like a
warehouse or hospital wing or even a nursing station), or a legal
entity (like a health system corporation). GLN Registry for
Healthcare The GLN Registry for Healthcare is a subscription-based
service that provides a comprehensive list of healthcare facilities
in the U.S. with their corresponding GLNs and GLN information
(e.g., name, address, class of trade, etc.). The GLN Registry
serves as the single source of truth for healthcare location
information enabling subscribers to access up-to-date, reliable
location information for industry manufacturers, distributors,
retailers, hospitals, clinics, and retail and mail-order pharmacies
to improve the accuracy of their supply chain activities. As a
result, the Registry solves the industry-wide challenge of
inaccurate location and party information by providing a central
resource of location and party information for all healthcare
facilities and healthcare-related facilities in the U.S. GS1 US

Slide 5
5 Key Terms 2010 GLN Sunrise To improve patient safety and
supply chain efficiency, organizations and companies throughout the
U.S. healthcare supply chain have announced their support to adopt
GS1 Standards by the industry-accepted sunrise dates of 2010 for
the GS1 Global Location Number (GLN) to standardize location
identification and 2012 for the GS1 Global Trade Item Number (GTIN)
to standardize product identification. The 2010 GLN Sunrise date
(December 2010) established by the healthcare industry calls for
the adoption of GLNs* in lieu of custom account/location numbers.
This means that by December 31, 2010: GLNs are assigned by location
owners. GLNs are used in appropriate business transactions and
processes between trading partners. GLN hierarchy is defined and
maintained by location owners. GLN Registry for Healthcare is used
to facilitate correct location identification. *Unique Location

Slide 6
6 GLN Benefits Patient Safety Right location: Reliable
identification of precise locations within the healthcare facility
ensures that the right product is delivered to the right location.
Streamlined product recalls: Accurate identification of specific
locations where recalled items were received, stored and/or used.
Enhanced BPOC Systems: Use of bar coded GLNs in systems facilitates
identification of locations where products are used/administered.

Slide 7
7 GLN Benefits Supply Chain Management Better cash flow:
Streamlines chargeback and rebate processing, reducing the amount
of money sitting in unresolved sales accounts. Reduced labor costs:
Eliminates the need to build and maintain cross reference tables to
keep track of multiple proprietary location numbers. More efficient
payment and reporting processes: Enables automatic delivery of
invoices, with fewer errors, resulting in quicker processing.
Facilitate contract pricing: Ensure that suppliers can easily
determine provider eligibility for contract pricing as GPO rosters
are aligned with GLNs. Improved information quality: Ensures
location information is accurate and identical among supply chain
partners which benefits both internal and external business
processes. 2010 GS1 US
