Page 2: Zero Air Generator

Safe alternative to high pressure gas cylinders.

Purifies on-site compressed air to produce hydrocarbon free air. (<0.1 ppm hydrocarbon content)

Useful as generating fuel air for Flame Ionization Detectors (FID) or as zero reference gas.

Produces up to 1000cc/min of zero grade air.

Zero Air Generator

Page 3: Zero Air Generator

High efficiency coalescing filter removes oil, water, and particulates.◦ Located immediately following compressed air

line outlet.

Equipped with manual drainto eliminate any liquids thathave accumulated.◦ Filter housing should be

checked periodically.

Prefiltration

Page 4: Zero Air Generator

A stainless steel housing with catalyst and heater is used to oxidize hydrocarbons into carbon dioxide.◦ Platinum catalyst assists in

oxidation of hydrocarbons tocarbon dioxide.

Catalyst module is largeenough to maintain upto 1000cc/min ofhydrocarbon free air.

Hydrocarbon Removal

Page 5: Zero Air Generator

High efficiency sintered metal filter removes particulate contamination.◦ 0.5 micron filter ensures particle-free zero air

delivery.

Autodrain controller

Reservoirdrain valve

Compressorreservoir

Page 8: Zero Air Generator

Intermittently drains compressed air at set time intervals.◦ Ensures that air stored in reservoir is moisture

free.◦ Eliminates need for daily flush of compressor

reservoir.

Auto Drain

Page 9: Zero Air Generator

Rack mounted generator units come equipped with extrafilter device which actsas a compressor muffler.◦ Removes excess moisture

buildup◦ Decreases noise generated

by compressor.

Muffler

Page 10: Zero Air Generator

Air compressor andZero Air Generatorshould be located asclose as possible.◦ Maintains air quality

while minimizing pressure drops and pressure fluctuations.

Considerations

Page 11: Zero Air Generator

Generator should be located indoors and free of excessive dust or dirt.◦ Ambient temperature around generator must be

between 60°F and 100°F (16°C and 40°C). Refrain from using plastic tubing

downstream from the generator.◦ Plastic tubing may cause outgassing and lower

the purity of the air.◦ Stainless steel tubing is recommended after

leaving the last filter.

Considerations

Page 12: Zero Air Generator

Once the compressor is turned on, allow the compressor to collect air.◦ Filling the reservoir takes approximately 5 minutes.◦ Once the reservoir is full, compressor will shut off.

Adjust the pressureregulator at generatorinlet.◦ Typically set at 30psig for

fuel air. Adjust the pressure

regulator at compressor outlet.◦ Typically set at 60psig for

actuator air.

Start Up

Page 13: Zero Air Generator

When powering on the generator for the first time, allow the hydrocarbon catalyst module to warm up.◦ This process typically takes 45 minutes.◦ Using air before the module warms up can result

in hydrocarbon content greater than 0.1ppm. Leaving the generator on continuously is

recommended.◦ Leaving the generator on prolongs the life of the

catalytic module.

Start Up

Page 14: Zero Air Generator

If an autodrain function is installed, set the interval and time length of drain.◦ Time length is measured in seconds (1–30 seconds).◦ Interval length is measured in minutes (1-60 minutes).

Start Up

Page 15: Zero Air Generator

Make sure enough time is allowed for hydrocarbon catalyst converter module to warm up before using air.

Routinely check the prefilter for any water or oil in the bulb and drain as necessary.◦ If compressor is located in an area with relatively

high moisture content, consider an extra stage of prefiltration to prolong filter and generator life.

Always ensure ambient air that compressor is storing is dust and dirt free.

Troubleshooting

Page 16: Zero Air Generator

If no air is flowing out of the outlet line, make sure inlet regulator is set.◦ If not enough pressure is being supplied to instruments,

increase inlet pressure.◦ Do not exceed 30psig for fuel air.

*THA fuel air max inlet pressure is 30psig.

◦ Do not exceed 60psig for actuator air. If no autodrain is installed,

draining the compressorreservoir daily is recommended.◦ Prevents moisture from

accumulating inside reservoir.◦ Prolongs life of prefilter to

air generator.

Troubleshooting

Page 17: Zero Air Generator

If poor air quality is being delivered, check ambient air for:◦ Chlorinated hydrocarbon compounds◦ Chlorofluorocarbons / Freons◦ Sulfur compounds◦ Phosphorous◦ Lead◦ Heavy metals◦ Long chain polymers

These compounds can permanently damage the hydrocarbon catalyst converter module.

Troubleshooting

Page 18: Zero Air Generator

Prefilter cartridge requires replacement every year.

Hydrocarbon catalyst converter module requires replacement every 2 years.◦ Allow the generator to cool for at least 2 hours

before replacingthe module.

Sintered metalfilter requiresreplacementevery year.
