YSGOL BRO IDRIS
Newsletter - Christmas
2016
By now the excitement of Christmas activities in schools is nearly over, with everyone having enjoyed
their Christmas lunch and party, performing in the Christmas concert, hosting a Christmas Fair and,
perhaps, seeing a pantomime. I’m sure every pupil and member of staff is ready for a holiday!
I would like to thank the staff and pupils of each school for their warm welcome and ready co-
operation during this term and wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
During this term a number of
staff have been appointed to
Ysgol Bro Idris, and it is a
pleasure to present them to you.
Mr Gareth Roberts has been
appointed as the School’s
Deputy head. Gareth is
currently the Headteacher at
Ysgol Maenofferen and hails
from Blaenau Ffestiniog. I’m
sure he will be an active and enthusiastic member of the
team and that he is ready for the challenge of working
together to develop the innovative Bro Idris school.
To complete the school Senior Management Team, three
Assistant Phase Headteachers have been appointed:
Assistant Headteacher Phase 1
Nia W Thomas-Pearson
Assistant Headteacher Phase 2
Nia Sian Davies
Assistant Headteacher Phase 3
Mr Aled Williams
The Headteacher said: “I would like to congratulate them
all and warmly welcome them as members of the Ysgol
Bro Idris team. I look forward to working with each one to
prepare and develop innovative ideas for Ysgol Bro Idris.
These appointments allow us to move forward to appoint
the remainder of the teaching staff, teaching assistants,
administrative and ancilliary staff in the
New Year”.
Appointments Update
Time capsule
On the 29th of November 2016, Cai and Garin visited the
building which is being upgraded on the Ysgol Gynradd
Dolgellau site to place a time
capsule. It has been
positioned by the new door
between the main building and
one of the new classrooms at
the back.
The pupils decided to place a
time capsule in the building
because Ysgol Gynradd
Dolgellau is coming to an end
and a new school is on the
horizon. The capsule contains
Ysgol Gynradd Dolgellau’s
logo, coins from today, pictures of the three classes -
Meirion, Wnion and Idris with each pupil’s name, the latest
copy of the local paper “Y Dydd” and a letter from the
School Council.
Website and social media

Pupils We will continue to discuss relevant matters associated with establishing the school with the pupils through meeting the School Council which includes a representation of pupils from all primary and secondary schools in the catchment.
Here’s what members of the School Council have to say
about their work:
“Being a member of the first Bro Idris School Council is an
honour and a very important job as it gives the
Headteacher, Mrs. Owen, an opportunity to listen to our
voice as children and young people of the school.
We have had very good experiences from going to the
archives to look for historical names for the sites, having
informal talks with teachers who have applied for new
posts in the school and seen samples of the new school
uniform. We have suggested that Phase 1 pupils wear a t-
shirt and jumper with Phase 2 and 3 pupils wearing a shirt,
tie and a jumper and we will be sending our ideas to the
Governors.
We have all enjoyed having the opportunity to express our
opinion on Ysgol Bro Idris and look forward to discussing
activities to ensure that Ysgol Bro Idris is one happy school
in the Spring and Summer term meetings.”
Lillie, Swyn, Mari, Glesni, Lia and Daisy.
“During this term, we have held several meetings to
provide Mrs Owen with an opportunity to listen to our ideas
for Ysgol Bro Idris. We went to the archives looking for
possible names for the sites, we have met with the
teachers to have a chat with them and also discussed the
school uniform.
Next term we will discuss activities to bring pupils together
so that Ysgol Bro Idris becomes one school and discussing
the school uniform further. However, our main work will be
to ensure that the voice of all pupils is heard through
creating questionnaires etc.”
Cai, Jack, Gweltaz, Moc and Dyfan.
Engaging with parents Following recent consultation sessions, which provided an opportunity to listen to the issues raised by parents, the Shadow Governing Body is keen to continue a dialogue with parents on matters relating to establishment of the new school. This will be done either through the Parent Forum meetings or by events arranged for all parents of the catchment. These events will provide an opportunity for parents to meet the staff of the new school as they are appointed and with members of the Shadow Governing Body. There will also be an opportunity for you to provide an input to plans and discuss any concerns.
The next Parent Forum will be held early in the New Year. The Parent Forum consists of a representative from each of the curent schools. You can contact your school to find out who is your school representative.
We will be working to arrange an event for all parents of the catchment for the beginning of February. We will contact you once a definite date has been confirmed.
Staffing matters Following the appointment of the Senior Management Team we will now proceed with appointing the remainder of the staff for the new school.
Teaching posts will be advertised in January and classroom assistants before half term.
You are welcome to contact the Head should you wish to discuss any issues.
Support also continues to be available to staff from the Council’s Human Resources Advisory Service and they will continue to provide sessions to offer support and guidance to staff.
Staff are welcome to contact Sandra Evans on 01286 679862 for any advice or guidance.
