Carolyn Collado Generation to Generation Award
Carolyn Collado is a rising sophomore at Yale University. She is majoring in sociology and political science and aspiring to pursue a career in government. As Treasurer of the Yale Dominican Student Association she worked with the Executive Board to bring Former President of the Dominican Republic Leonel Fernandez to speak at Yale. Carolyn provides substance abuse prevention education in New Haven high schools through Community Health Educators, the only source of health education in the area. As a mentor for The Future Project, she assists a student who is promoting safe and positive social media space in her high school and providing education and career guidance. This spring, Carolyn spent two weeks in Panama through the Reach Out Program where she worked with Floating Doctors on public health projects and providing translation services for medical professionals in indigenous communities. In 2011, Carolyn interned with Assemblyman Felix Ortiz as community liaison to the Sunset Park neighborhood. Her research on the prevalence of suicide attempts for young Latinas in NYC was used to promote innovative programs addressing the issue. Carolyn is currently in Buenos Aires, Argentina working with the Asociación por los Derechos Civiles on policy research around issues of inequality in Latin America, with a focus on access to information and transparency between government and civilians. This summer, she will coordinate the Cultural Connections pre-orientation program, which gives incoming freshmen an opportunity to discuss diversity and fosters a space of inclusion.
Nancy Trujillo is the Executive Assistant at The Futuro Media Group, an independent non-profit media organization based in Harlem dedicated to produce multimedia journalism that explores and gives voice to the diversity of the American experience. She graduated from Barnard College, Columbia University in May 2012 with a B.A. in Ethnic Studies. At Barnard College, Nancy was very involved with the ethnic studies student movement. With a serious commitment to institutionalizing ethnic studies in the Barnard curriculum she led the Ethnic Studies Reading Group. Her work with students, administrators and professors was crucial to creating a dialogue that helped establish Barnard’s Consortium for Critical Interdisciplinary Studies which acknowledges the undergraduate concentration and minor in ethnic studies-Interdisciplinary Concentration and Minor on Race and Ethnicity. Nancy grew up in Queens, New York and attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of the Music and Arts and Performing Arts as a visual art major. She has been highly involved since her early high school years and continues to be with ASPIRA of New York, Inc. and YouthBridge-NY that work with youth of color to empower sense of self, community, education, culture, and leadership. Highly interested in the intersections of people from different cultures and social backgrounds, Nancy hopes to apply the skills and work learned from ASPIRA of New York, Inc, YouthBridge-NY and her Ethnic Studies liberal arts degree to further explore and understand the dynamics that shape social constructions in this country. Her hobbies include painting, photography, traveling, running and cycling.

Nancy Trujillo Distinguished Alum Award
YouthBridge-NY is a nonprofit leadership development organization that convenes and trains young people to meet the challenges of an extremely diverse New York City. Since 1997, YouthBridge-NY youth leaders have been proactively involved in enhancing the leadership and diversity landscape of our city and are dedicated to improving the quality of life for all. The YouthBridge-NY Fellowship is a two-year program for high school juniors and seniors. First-year Fellows participate in monthly skill building workshops and specialized actions committees focused on either grant-giving, diversity through photography, or an internship to understand diversity in the workplace. After a year of acquiring important leadership skills and experiencing diversity learning, second-year Bridgers are given the opportunity to further enhance and hone these skills. Bridgers meet monthly to learn about community organizing, building social media campaigns, and diversity and opportunities in college. Bridgers participate in roundtable trainings to jumpstart their career and get a chance to meet and greet with the YouthBridge-NY Board of Directors. In addition, Fellows and Bridgers participate in an orientation summer retreat, special meetings with corporate and city leaders, build friendships with peers from all five-boroughs, and much more.
