This exhibition evocatively tells the story of Egypt and the exceptional life of the Paduan Giovanni Battista Belzoni who in 1815 immersed himself in this ancient civilization, which at the time was almost completely unknown in Europe. The exhibition offers a complete overview of Egypt and the civilization of the Pharaohs through interesting research which contributes to contextualizing Belzoni’s discoveries and provides all the historic-archaeological coordinates. The material of the exhibition comes from prestigious Italian and foreign museums; some pieces and documents are being exhibited for the first time.

Degas, Delacroix, Monet, Picasso, van Gogh and other maestros such as Géricault, Renoir, Cézanne, Matisse, Utrillo bring the magic, allure and elegance of an unrepeatable season of French art to Padua.

Palazzo Zabarella exclusively hosts 73 works of art of the Mellon Collection of French Art from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, artwork which has never been seen and which covers a chronological arch which goes from Romanticism to Cubism, passing through the extraordinary experience of Impressionism.

The exhibition celebrates the collector’s taste and two of the most refined and important patrons of the 20th century: Paul Mellon, son of the entrepreneur Andrew Mellon, one of the richest men in America, banker and Secretary of the Treasury of the United States, and his wife Bunny.
