Your Walk Guide We are excited that you're joining us for this year's MTN Walk the Talk with 702. In this guide you will find all the information you need about the venue, routes and the parking plan. We want to make sure that your day is enjoyable, safe and as hassle-free as possible. This can only happen when everyone knows where to go, where to park and the routes for each walk. So, please take the time to read through the guide. PARKING AND ACCESSThere are over 50 000 participants so you can expect delays in getting to the parking areas. To make sure you start within your communicated start time, allow for an additional one hour and thirty minutes of travel to the venue. Primary parking is located at the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens with access off Thomas Bowler Street and Beyers Naude Drive. Access to the parking is via Beyers Naude Drive from the north and south. This is the recommended parking for all participants. This parking is easily accessible and FREE of charge. Be aware that there are illegal parking guards who may direct you to park outside of the recommended parking area. Please do not listen to them. We are not able to secure vehicles parked in these areas. Please refer to the map included for suggested routes to the parking facilities.

Please take note of the road closures, which will be in effect on the 5km, 8km, 15km and 25km routes. These may affect your journey to and from Marks Park Sports Club. There is no access into the Red Zone. Please refer to the inserted map for details about the Red Zone. This is a restricted area and will be strictly controlled. Walkers’ access to the Start is from the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens through the lower entrance of Marks Park Sports Club. Follow the “To the Start” signage. Judith Road will be closed to traffic from 04:00 to 14:00.

PARK AND RIDE FACILITIESPlease check your walk pack carefully if you ordered Park and Ride. Your colour-coded band will be inside your race pack when you collect your race number. Pre-booked Park and Ride will run from Clearwater Mall, Eastgate, Melrose Arch, Montecasino, Sandton (corner West & Rivonia), Nasrec Expo Centre, or the University of Johannesburg. If you have booked Park and Ride from any one of these venues, the marked buses will pick you up from your chosen venue and drop you off on Louw Geldenhuys Road next to Emmarentia Dam. This will also be your departure point after your walk. Follow the “To the Start” signage to gain access to Marks Park Sports Club. Park and Ride buses will start shuttling participants from the departure points at 05:00. To return to your chosen departure point and yourcar, take a bus from the same drop-off point from 10:00 onwards. We will offer overflow parking at the University of Johannesburg, with a park-and-shuttle option at R80 per ticket on the day. All Park and Ride buses are colour-coded according to the pick-up and drop-off point. Look for the colour-coded event posters on each bus which should match your Park and Ride band.

TOG BAG DROP OFFLeave your bags or picnic baskets at the secure Tog Bag Drop-Off marquee situated above the Finish field. You can collect your bags after your walk.

WATER POINTS AND ON ROUTE FACILITIESAll water points along the route have both medical and toilet facilities. The 25km walk has seven water points with Coca-Cola and water. The 15km walk has four water points offering Powerade, Coca-Cola and water. The 8km and 5km water points will be stocked with Powerade, Coca cola and water. The Finish water point will have Powerade. There are loads of Power Zones and amazing activations out on the routes. Be sure to take photos and share them on social media on the day.

DOG WALKComplete Pet Food are the dog walk sponsors and will be providing dedicated dog water points on the 5km and 8km walks. To participate in the 5km or 8km walks all dogs must be on leads and adequately restrained, medically fit and socialised to be with other dogs and people. Remember to take a plastic bag (doggy-doo bag) along with you for cleaning up any mess after your dog. Look out for the Complete Pet Food finish line as you enter the Finish field, dog walkers must keep right. The Complete Pet Food finish area will also have water and veterinary support sponsored bythe Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and SAVA Community Veterinary Clinics.

CROSSING THE FINISH LINEAll distances finish within Marks Park Sports Club. All our participants are winners so remember to collect your medal after successfully completing your walk. Anyone who wears a timing/certification tag will be checked in via electronic antennae, which will enable us to issue your certificate of participation. These certificates will be available online from Tuesday 30 July.

CHILDREN AND SAFETYWe recommend that you write your cell phone number on your child's arm. Another way you can ensure your child is identified, should you become disconnected during the day, is to take a photo of your child in the morning. Also keep the call centre number (011 017 2700) on your phone for quick reference. For your child's safety please do not leave them alone, even for a second. Missing children will be taken to the JOC (Joint Operations Centre) in the venue, located adjacent to the clubhouse There is a childrens play area avilable on Field C.

MEDICAL SUPPORTNetcare 911 is the official medical supplier. For any medical emergency please call 082 911. We recommend you save this number on your cell phone.

PARK AND RIDE FACILITIESPlease check your walk pack carefully if you ordered Park and Ride. Your colour-coded band will be inside your race pack when you collect your race number. Pre-booked Park and Ride will run from Clearwater Mall, Eastgate, Melrose Arch, Montecasino, Sandton (corner West & Rivonia), Nasrec Expo Centre, or the University of Johannesburg. If you have booked Park and Ride from any one of these venues, the marked buses will pick you up from your chosen venue and drop you off on Louw Geldenhuys Road next to Emmarentia Dam. This will also be your departure point after your walk. Follow the “To the Start” signage to gain access to Marks Park Sports Club. Park and Ride buses will start shuttling participants from the departure points at 05:00. To return to your chosen departure point and yourcar, take a bus from the same drop-off point from 10:00 onwards. We will offer overflow parking at the University of Johannesburg, with a park-and-shuttle option at R80 per ticket on the day. All Park and Ride buses are colour-coded according to the pick-up and drop-off point. Look for the colour-coded event posters on each bus which should match your Park and Ride band.

Walk Tip: Drop a pin in Google Maps when you arrive to help you remember how to get back to the pick-up point!

TOG BAG DROP OFFLeave your bags or picnic baskets at the secure Tog Bag Drop-Off marquee situated above the Finish field. You can collect your bags after your walk.

WATER POINTS AND ON ROUTE FACILITIESAll water points along the route have both medical and toilet facilities. The 25km walk has seven water points with Coca-Cola and water. The 15km walk has four water points offering Powerade, Coca-Cola and water. The 8km and 5km water points will be stocked with Powerade, Coca cola and water. The Finish water point will have Powerade. There are loads of Power Zones and amazing activations out on the routes. Be sure to take photos and share them on social media on the day.

DOG WALKComplete Pet Food are the dog walk sponsors and will be providing dedicated dog water points on the 5km and 8km walks. To participate in the 5km or 8km walks all dogs must be on leads and adequately restrained, medically fit and socialised to be with other dogs and people. Remember to take a plastic bag (doggy-doo bag) along with you for cleaning up any mess after your dog. Look out for the Complete Pet Food finish line as you enter the Finish field, dog walkers must keep right. The Complete Pet Food finish area will also have water and veterinary support sponsored bythe Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and SAVA Community Veterinary Clinics.

CROSSING THE FINISH LINEAll distances finish within Marks Park Sports Club. All our participants are winners so remember to collect your medal after successfully completing your walk. Anyone who wears a timing/certification tag will be checked in via electronic antennae, which will enable us to issue your certificate of participation. These certificates will be available online from Tuesday 30 July.

CHILDREN AND SAFETYWe recommend that you write your cell phone number on your child's arm. Another way you can ensure your child is identified, should you become disconnected during the day, is to take a photo of your child in the morning. Also keep the call centre number (011 017 2700) on your phone for quick reference. For your child's safety please do not leave them alone, even for a second. Missing children will be taken to the JOC (Joint Operations Centre) in the venue, located adjacent to the clubhouse There is a childrens play area avilable on Field C.

PARKING AND ACCESSThere are over 50 000 participants so you can expect delays in getting to the parking areas. To make sure you start within your communicated start time, allow for an additional one hour and thirty minutes of travel to the venue. Primary parking is located at the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens with access off Thomas Bowler Street and Beyers Naude Drive. Access to the parking is via Beyers Naude Drive from the north and south. This is the recommended parking for all participants. This parking is easily accessible and FREE of charge. Be aware that there are illegal parking guards who may direct you to park outside of the recommended parking area. Please do not listen to them. We are not able to secure vehicles parked in these areas. Please refer to the map included for suggested routes to the parking facilities.

ROAD CLOSURESAvoid Barry Hertzog Road, it will be closed on the day as it forms part of the walk routes. Please take note of the road closures, which will be in effect on the 5km, 8km, 15km and 25km routes. These may affect your journey to and from Marks Park Sports Club. There is no access into the Red Zone. Please refer to the inserted map for details about the Red Zone. This is a restricted area and will be strictly controlled. Walkers’ access to the Start is from the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens through the lower entrance of Marks Park Sports Club. Follow the “To the Start” signage. Judith Road will be closed to traffic from 04:00 to 14:00.

TEMPORARYEMPLOYMENTThe Walk the Talk creates over 1,200 temporary jobs in the build-up to and on the day of the event.

GREEN WASTEWith over 15,000 people partaking in the event hospitality, all disposable settings are made from eco-friendly and recyclable bamboo. There will be no plastic straws in the venue or on route.

COMMUNITY LEGACYPROJECTSWalk the Talk is unique in that it donates to a community legacy project each year tothank the residents and communities through which the various routes go. To date, the event has donated four outdoor gyms, a basketball court, a wooden dance floor for a community dance programme and a recycled footbridge over a sensitive wetland in the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens. This year, the event is contributing towards a new ClearVu fence to secure the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens.

CALL CENTREOver 1,000 traffic advisories are erected to inform residents and motorists about the date of the event and road closures. Trained staff in the dedicated Walk the Talk call centre assists residents, motorists and walkers to navigate the roads that are affected by the event.

CHARITY TEAMSOver 50 charity teams participate in Walk the Talk and use the event to raise funds and awareness for their causes.

CLEANING UPAs responsible citizens, Walk the Talk ensures that all the roads used during the event are professionally cleaned. Dedicated clean-up crews are assigned on the route, in the parking areas and in the venue.

To mitigate the inconvenience, resident passes are delivered directly to your home, provided that you’re on the database. GREEN RACE NUMBERSThe race numbers are made from Tex21 which is a 100% recycled polyester fibre made from plastic bottles. The plastic bottles are sorted, cleaned, shredded, heated up to make a polyester yarn and then made into a polyester fibre. Et Voila - the environmentally-friendly Walk the Talk race numbers are made!
