The Catholic Church has dropped St. Valentine's Day from the
Roman calendar of official, worldwide feasts. But the holiday has
both Roman and Catholic roots.

Did you know that the Knights of Columbus was born on
February 6, 1882? That means the organization is 132 years
old this month. I strongly believe this organization has lasted
these many years because of the involvement and commitment
of Catholic men who want to improve the communities around
them. Council 5480 is doing just that, because we all want to
leave a legacy behind for our children and grandchildren to be
proud of. We all need to show off our pride as members of the
Knights of Columbus so that young Catholic men will follow
our footsteps and be the future for Council 5480. This month

On this occasion, in a limited space allotment, I would like to honor a highly respected group of airmen,
defend our country and the world in World War II:
The Tuskegee Airmen is the popular name of a group of African
formed the 332nd Fighter Group and the 477th Bombardment Group
The Tuskegee Airmen were the first African-American military aviators in the United States armed forces. During World War
II, African Americans in many U.S. states were still subject to the Jim Crow laws[ and the Ameri
segregated, as was much of the federal government. The Tuskegee Airmen were subjected to racial discrimination, both
within and outside the army. All black military pilots who trained in the United States (including five Haitians)
Moton Field and Tuskegee Army Air Field, located near Tuskegee, Alabama.
In all, 992 pilots were trained in Tuskegee from 1941 to 1946. 355 were deployed overseas, and 84 lost their lives in
accidents or combat. The toll included 68 pilots kill
and 32 captured as prisoners of war. The Tuskegee Airmen were credited by higher commands with the following
accomplishments:
1578 combat missions, 1267 for the Twelfth Air Force; 311
179 bomber escort missions, with a good record of protection, losing bombers on only seven missions and a total of only 27,
compared to an average of 46 among other 15AF P
112 enemy aircraft destroyed in the air, another 150 on the ground and 148 damaged.
