Message from Fr. Harry: Happy 2019! We have com-pleted three months as Grouping 329. I want to thank every-one for their prayers, cooperation, friendliness and support. All phone lines ring (after office hours) to the same answer-ing service. You can call any parish number to have a priest contacted in an emergency. Non-Urgent messages are shared by e-mail the next day. (Every so often a phone does not forward the calls and the phone just rings). In that case, just call a number of another parish in the grouping 329. I want to thank the members of the Pastoral and Financial Councils. We have met a few times last year and we have participated in two work sessions on January 5 and 12. All are invited to a Reporting Session about Pastoral Life and Finances at Saint Alphonsus Hall, 219 W. Lincoln Avenue, McDonald, PA 15057, on Tuesday, January 29, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. The third working session of all council members is on Saturday, February 23, from 1-2:30 p.m. at Saint Al-phonsus Hall. The second reporting session (Open to all.) will be Tuesday, March 19, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Saint Al-phonsus Hall. Finally, WEATHER and PARKING. We had our first sub-stantial snow fall on a weekend. I thank everyone for their hard work and efforts to keep everyone safe. Everyone does a great job to find a parking space at the six parishes. Many have attended other churches. I remind everyone to be re-spectful and considerate in parking. I ask all to pay attention to fire hydrants, stop signs, roadways, driveways, mail box-es, yards, sidewalks, and people. It is also important to re-member that emergency equipment needs access to our churches at all times. Thanks again for all that you do. ~Fr. Harry Bielewicz ATTENTION GRADES 9 - 12: We will be going on a Catholic Heart Work Camp mission trip to Steubenville, OH, from July 14-19. This is an opportunity to serve the needy, grow in your faith, make new friends, and have a ton of fun. For more info., go to www.heartworkcamp.com. For more de-tails, please contact Fr. Zach at 724-947-3363 or [email protected]. If any adults with clearances are interested in chaperoning the mission trip, please contact Fr. To Each Individual the Manifestation of the Spirit Is Given for Some Benefit – Last week-end, as we celebrated the Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River, we also had an opportunity to

reflect on our own Baptism. Through Baptism we are washed clean of Original Sin and enter into the life of grace through the gift of the Holy Spirit. And it doesn’t end there! In Confirmation, we receive the fullness of God’s Spirit and are sent forth into the world as instruments of his life and love. Yet, while we are united in the Spirit of God as his children, we are not robots who all speak the same words or who do identical deeds in God’s name. Instead, as Saint Paul reminds us in today’s second read-ing, each one of us shared uniquely in the gifts of the Spir-it so that we might fulfill God’s unique will for us. The jour-ney of our life of faith must then include discerning the gifts that God has given us and how he wants us to use them. This is an important part of the On Mission for The Church Alive! initiative. If each one of us has been en-dowed with spiritual gifts, in what ways can we use them to enliven the Church? Spend a few moments in prayer this week and ask the Lord to help you know the gifts the Spirit has bestowed upon you and how you are being called to share them. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed. BAPTISM CLASS: The next baptism class for our parish grouping will be 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5, in the basement of St. Michael’s Church. To attend, you must register ahead of time by contacting Carmela at 724-695-7325 or [email protected] This class is for those who belong to any of our six parishes and are baptizing their first child.

The Living Word In this Sunday’s Gospel, we hear about a wedding feast at Cana in Galilee where Jesus turned six stone jars of wa-ter into the finest wine. John, the Evangelist, concluded this passage by saying: “Jesus did this as the beginning of His signs…and so revealed His glory, and His disciples began to believe in Him.” It is important to note that John did not refer to this event as a “miracle,” but rather a “sign.” He did so because the importance of this deed was not in the deed itself, but in what the deed indicated about Jesus’ identity. After witnessing the transformation of the water into wine, His newly enlisted disciples began to believe that Jesus was more than the son of Mary and Joseph; He was indeed the Son of God. Many Scripture scholars believe that the six water jars symbolized the unfulfilled state of Judaism in Jesus’ time – the complete number being “seven.” This incompleteness was because of their lack of a Messiah and the kingdom that he represented. By changing the water into fine wine, Jesus identified Himself to those Jews present at this occasion as the Messiah, the One who would bring all people to com-pleteness, or fullness. These guests were familiar with the prophet Isaiah who said that when the age of salvation came, there would be a feast of fine wine; when they drank of this wine, they would swallow up death forever and their sins would be forgiven. When Jesus’ hour came, at the Last Supper, the Messiah turned wine into His Blood as a gift to all His followers with the promise that through the Eucharist He would always be with us. Sadly, we often hear people say that they do not get any-thing out of Mass. If this is the case, perhaps there is some-thing missing in their relationship with God. Perhaps they have not yet found their God-given treasury of gifts and tal-ents. Perhaps they have not made their unique contribution to their Christian community and the world. When we participate at Sunday Mass each week, we must remember that it is a time for us to be united with the God who loves us so much that He died on a cross for our salvation. It is an opportunity for us to share in the transfor-mation of our lives and in turn, the world. Participation at Mass is much more than an obligation to be fulfilled or a weekly routine. It should always be a personal encounter with our Lord. Perhaps if you listen carefully, you will hear Mary saying, “They have no drink…, they have no food…, or they have no place to live.” How will you respond to her request?
