I have since fired the proof reader for not being pacific enough. I blame the RFU for continuously buggering around with the League structure.

Oh the shame!!! Having re-read the last issue, sadly

after distribution, I was shocked to

the core when I read “…failed to

should have read “elicit a response”.

I have since fired the proof reader

for not being pacific enough.

I also made liberal references to

Midlands 2 East when of course I

should have been referring to

Midlands 1 East…. and it turns out

that Wellingborough didn’t get

relegated. I blame the RFU for

Former Players Re-Union Day

This has been confirmed as 4th November 2018 on the day of the 1st XV’s home

fixture with Wellingborough. The pre-match lunch will take place at 12.30 (possibly

12.00) and tables of 10 or 12 are available for booking. The per head cost is £15.00

If you would like to book a table to fill please send a cheque for £150 or £180 to

Richard Dillamore, LBRFC, Wright’s Meadow, Leighton Road, Stanbridge, LU7 9HR.

If you want to book a single slot, again send a cheque for £15. Your cheque will book

your table/place. Dilly’s procedure is that he doesn’t bank the cheques until the week

before the lunch, so there’s your cash flow worries sorted.

If you can’t make the lunch then at least come along at some point of the afternoon.

Have a think about it. In the meantime, here is a photo of Chinny singing “Smack My

Bitch Up”

Interesting Facts

The current Lions tour will be done and dusted in 35 days. Conversely in 1971, the only time the Lions won a series

in New Zealand, there were 45 days between the first tour match against Queensland and the first test in Dunedin,

with the last test of four 6 weeks after that.

Since Clive Woodward became England coach in October 1997 England has capped six players with double barrelled

surnames: James Simpson-Daniel, Paul Doran-Jones, Luke Cowan-Dickie, Steve White-Cooper, Jordan Turner-Hall and

Richard Pool-Jones. Doesn’t seem to promote a long run as they only have 25 caps between them.

In terms of time span, Simon Shaw has the longest England test career: 14 years, 10 months and 15 days

Victor Ubogu’s middle name is Eriakpo (remember that one Rod?)

Pete Arthur’s favourite

theodolite One of the benefits of having two issues in such quick

succession is that queries raised in the last can be

quickly answered in the next and so it is with this

burning question. I’ve been reliably informed that the

winner is the Wild T2 (pronounced “Vild” ... and “Tee

too”) which was manufactured in Heerbrugg,

Switzerland from 1973 to 1996.

Next time Pete tells us which is the stripey stick that

beats all other stripey sticks.

I’m sure you’ll agree this is a lot of valuable information

to digest, so in the meantime, here’s a photo of Alan

Hodey singing “Ave Maria”

... and as promised for the very

oldies... Russ Conway was born Trevor Herbert Stanford in Bristol on

2nd

September 1925 and was a popular pianist who had two

Number 1 hits both in 1959. The first and probably his most

remembered was Side Saddle, the second being Roulette.

His career was blighted by ill health which was not

surprising as at times he drank heavily and would smoke 80

cigarettes a day. After his golden year of 1959 his career

went into decline and was restricted to occasional TV

appearances the last of which was probably in 1994 when

he appeared in the French and Saunders spoof of the Oscar

winning film The Piano. He never married (aye, aye) and

died on 16th

November 2000 aged 75.

Frank Ifield, born 30th

November 1937 in Coundon,

Warwickshire. In 1946 his parents and he emigrated to

Australia which was where he had his initial success. Known

for his falsetto voice and tendency to yodel he returned to

the UK and had a number one hit with I Remember You in

1962. He had three more number ones. In the early 70s he

visited Stockton General Hospital where my auntie was a

sister on the childrens ward. She thoughtfully got a signed

photo of him which she sent to me along with one of Leapy

Lee, a one-hit wonder with Little Arrows and last seen on

daytime TV in the early noughties in Living in the Sun, a

diary of ex-pats living in Spain and presented by Nadia

Sawalha. Funnily enough the photos got lost in a move.

And it is a lesser known fact that Meg used to live on the

same street as Matt Monroe!

Acknowledgements First off an apology to Melissa Smith and the Pargeter brothers. Having been very pleased to have garnered their email

addresses I then seemed to lose them as I swapped information from home laptop to memory stick to work laptop and

probably back again. That error has been rectified.

Many thanks also to Paul “Bob” Young who has once again plundered his drawers to provide me with another splendid

collection of photographs, some of which make up 100% of those used in this issue. I went on about four tours with Youngy

and I never remember him having a camera. I guess that’s the whole point of tours eh?

Remember,

remember the

4th of

November!!

And finally!! Your free gift!!!! ... is attached to the email. Turn your sound up and

click/double click on it. It probably infringes the IRB’s, sorry

World Rugby’s copyright but who cares?

It’s probably of most interest to the English amongst you, so

in the meantime, for those of you with a Celtic persuasion,

here’s a photo of ...... Oh bollocks! You can push a running

‘joke’ to far sometimes.
