Before you jump into your new project or re-roofing your house, don’t forget to get approval first.

The ACC Process:

1. Plan Your Project. Project Applications and pre-approved material lists are listed on our commu-nity website. 2. Submit Your Request/Plans to the ACC @ [email protected]. Include material samples for non pre-approved items such as paint chip and drawings for landscape, etc. 3. Receive ACC Approval. Usually takes 7 to 10 days. If the item is of an urgent matter, such as a leaking roof, contact the ACC and Property Manager to ensure a rapid response. You’ll receive a sign to post in your yard stating “Summerwind Approved Project.” 4. Start Your Work 5. Return your sign to ACC Chair for reuse.

Remember that rockeries, retaining walls, and other major landscaping renovations, along with roofing, painting, out-buildings, and other exterior alterations to your home visible from the street need to be submitted for review and approval before work begins.

We have a couple of street light connection boxes where the wiring was cut recently and copper wiring stolen. There have been other cases in the neighborhood. The Renton Police Department said that the culprits come during the day in vans looking like utility workers. Please report any unmarked utility vans to the police.

If you have trees/hedges growing into the sidewalk, it's your responsibility to keep them trimmed. There are several that are overgrowing the walkway now that the weather has started clearing up. Have you tried using vinegar on your driveway and sidewalk cracks to kill those pesky weeds? It’s very a very affordable and is better for the environment than the harsh chemicals in commercial weed killers.

Welcome to all you new Summerwind residents! Don’t be shy—knock on your neighbors door and introduce yourself if they haven’t already knocked on yours. We love our neighborhood and we hope you grow to love it too!

The on-line Renton Reporter has a new feature—My Ren-ton. It breaks Renton down into sections. Summerwind is listed under the Highlands grouping. A lot of the links there pertain to Renton in general from their newspaper articles, but some of their posts are specific to the High-lands. And anyone can put information there so you’ll see items that pertain to particular neighborhoods. I don’t think I’d put our Flashlight Easter Hunt details there because we don’t want all of Renton to show up, but it would be a good place for information about our yearly ga-rage sale.

We had a meeting at Starbucks a few week back to gauge interest in going for-ward with a community garden p-patch in the neighborhood and we had ten peo-ple show up. We figured that was enough to go ahead and submit a Neighborhood

Grant application for funding our proposed garden.

IF we get the funding, and Board approval, we’ll be taking the next steps, and if things really gel, watch for signs posting some work party dates where we will need help shoveling, hammering, and creating this new Summer-wind amenity. We’ll need to document volunteer hours as our part of the grant match so we will REALLY appreciate YOU coming to help us out.

If you or someone you know has a talent for layout out and assembling a sprinkler system, please let me know.

Stay tuned….

Have you heard the new construction going on to the north of Summerwind at the Langley Ridge at May Creek development (34 single-family lots on 34 acres south of SE May Valley Rd.)? The preliminary plat was initially ap-proved in February 2006, but construction was put on hold until recently. The road is in and they have started building this year. It’s a nice walk if you want to check it out.

From Sherry Amatenstein, author of The Complete Mar-riage Counselor — Here’s a simple exercise to better understand your spouse: Pretend that you are your spouse and have your mate do the same. Then write about what it’s like to be married to you. Be honest. Then ex-change what you’ve written.

A few tips from Dr. Oz: He says to throw away your scale—what matters is your waist size. It should be less than half of your height.

For an average woman, that’s 32 inches; men, 35.

Daily, eat 7 servings of whole grains; 5 servings of vegeta-bles; 4 servings of fruit; 2 servings of low-fat dairy; 1 serv-ing of tree-nuts (such as almonds). Then add proteins and whatever else you want.

Slow down, enjoy and savor your meal, 20 chews before swallowing. (I do about 5.)

Take 1,000 IU of Vitamin D daily and 400 mg of Omega-3 fats.

And Reader’s Digest did a study and found that all the other vitamins you may be taking are just a waste of your money. Just eat a varied diet and you’ll get enough nutrients. However, if you are a women of child bearing age, you should probably take a bit of folic acid to

help guarantee you are in optimum health prior to getting pregnant.
