- I almost started to believe that the world would actually end on

the 21st of December, 2012. I started to believe this, because it seemed

that we can not invent something that is brand-new. Everything has al-

ready been done in the field of art, fashion and music. I even heard that

the computer industry is showing signs of stagnation. So I drew my con-

clusion that humanity is done for and that it wouldn’t be such a bad idea

if a big meteorite would come and crush us all.

But oh boy, was I wrong. The current trends made me realize that

we will be able to reinvent ourselves for a long time. The formula is simple,

namely combining existing, outdated elements to create something new.

Just think how many combinations you can make with the digits 1 to 9. A

very comforting thought, I thought. Good examples of these trends are

Lana Del Rey, Lady Gaga, Instagram, films like ‘The Artist’, and so on.

In this magazine, I’m using this formula to supply new inspira-

tion. I combine already existing images so that together, they will tell a

new story. Sometimes, you will find some new images that I’ve put to-

gether in collaboration with some awesome photographers. Or pictures

that I took myself. My goal is to feed you, and by eating my inspiration,

you’ll hopefully be able to create something that nobody has ever seen

before.

- Suddenly, now that I’ve reached the age of 24 years, I realize that I no

longer can get away with a sentence beginning with “When I grow up, I ...”. I

already live the live in which I grew up. And I notice that I am not the only one

who has noticed this. Nostalgia seems to be a trend at the moment. Or rather, it

has always been a trend. It’s timeless, just like a trench coat. Indeed, each genera-

tion is getting older and at one point - to be precise, the point where you have

to take the responsibilities of your own life - we long for the carelessness of our

youth. No wonder, we are all a bit youth obsessed, some more than others. In the

next couple of pages I will show you the youth and it’s perishableness. Also, I did

a photo-shoot with talented photographer Dennis Swiatkowski, in which I used

some nineties inspired clothes. Because the nineties is the decade where my youth

lies.

- What makes a man a man? Can a gay man be considered as a man? Is a man

still a man when he wears a skirt? In my world, I’m surrounded by very fashionable

people. A world in which a gay man or a man wearing an awesome Givenchy skirt

combined with some matching tights is definitely considered a man, but what about the

world outside of my bubble? I’m starting to think that the taboo around this subject is

a dying breed, but some weeks ago I read an article in the ‘Volkskrant’ newspaper about

Frank Ocean coming out of the closet and how the hip-hop industry was responding

to that. It made me more realistic about the way people outside of my bubble think

about men and gay men in general. The taboo still exists and there are still lots of men

out there, gay or straight, coping with their sexuality. In the next couple of pages, I will

share some photographs I find interesting around this subject. Images of the macho

man and the rapper in particular, because I consider those type of guys as the ones who

are scared of not being man-enough. Also, I will share a spread I made with the won-

derful photographer Valentina Vos, in which I’ve combined some super-manly hip-hop

clothes with some super-girly furs, chanel-like jackets and gay-poses. Just to show the

haters that when you’re a man, it doesn’t matter what you wear. The only thing you

need is self-confidence. And a pair of balls.

- Another timeless trend would be sex. Because sex always

sells. In the upcoming pages, I would like to share some sexual fet-

ishism or sex fantasies I find intriguing. From voyeurism to domi-

nance, from in-your-face-sex to the more subtle kind of sex. And

also cars, because there’s nothing more sexy then a male or female

driving an awesome ride.

- The American Dream. Slumdog Millionaire. Ice Ice Baby. It’s all about the mon-ey. Don’t we all wan’t to be rich? But what is richness? Of course, health and happi-ness are still two important values. But the cash makes things a lot more easier.. It’s true. I find it fascinating what people do with their money sometimes, depending on their tastes. The Rappers, the Nouveau Riche, Mark Zuckerberg. But also, there are the Make Believers. The one’s with the fake Gucci purses, plastic pearls and five dollar eau-de-cologne. They’ll most likely be drinking Cava instead of Champagne. And then you’ll also have the filthy rich people that spend their money in a certain way, that they’ll end up looking cheap anyway.

- In the end, we are all animals. We don’t have morals, we don’t

have intelligence, we only have our instincts. What would the world be

like if we would go back to our roots and act only by following our in-

stincts? I’ve collected some answers for you, some are liberating, some

might be disturbing. But all are remembrances of what you really are

- Sometimes, it feels like the world is getting so small. We live

in a time where you can go almost anywhere in the world. And even

when you find yourself sipping a great coconut cocktail at the other

side of the ocean, you might run in to your former roommate. Luckily,

we still have our other universes where we can fly to. You’ll find those

in our dreams, in our art, in our films or in our music. The next couple

of pages I’ve put together for you contain some examples of places

you might find in the parallel universe. Places that are great to escape

to from time to time. But when you get back from your little trip, you’ll

probably be relieved and feel blessed for the realisticness we live in.
