You may find the ultimate in service

Typically when businesses move their offices we see moving trucks and a bunch of file cabinets being wheeled out onto the sidewalk on dollies. Not at Westview Orchards and Cider Mill in Romeo, Michigan. A hand paint-ed sandwich board sign placed next to Van Dyke road on Wednesday, of-fered “Free fun. House moving today.”

Many locals were on site to watch as the offices of Westview Orchard & Cider Mill, which were located within the 1921 farm house pictured above, were transported on a trailer up the side of a hill on the or-chard’s property facing VanDyke road.

“It was a way to preserve a building that’s been a part of the nearly two hun-dred year old property since 1921 while giving us more parking for customers and a better view of the mill.” said a worker inside Westview’s street side store which offers a variety of fresh fruits

such as fresh peaches, strawberries, apples, vegetables, pastries and pies.

We spoke with Katrina Schumach-er, one of the owners of the fam-ily owned orchard recently. She told us, “We’ll be a Bicentennial Farm in 2013 celebrating 200 years of serving the Romeo and Metro Detroit Area! “

Deciding to keep the old farm house which serves as the offices of West-view Orchard is an example of why this farmland has remained in tact as a functioning orchard amidst the area’s commercial growth and residential building booms. Pres-ervation and conservation are what keeps tradition and history alive..To watch a video of this unique business move, visit us at www.yesdetroit.com.

Sometimes chain emails come around that offer practical and clev-er advice. I received this one titled, “I Never Thought of That!” from a friend and thought, “I really, truly never thought of that!” Below are a few of this email’s unique DIY tips.

Use a (clean) dustpan to fill a container that doesn’t fit in the sink.

Place a rubber band around an open paint can to wipe your brush on, and keep paint off the side of the can.

Use a staple remover to save your fingernails when trying to add things to your key ring!

I NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT!Put a wooden spoon across boiling pot of water to keep from boiling over.

(This is the one I have to try!)

Use bread clips to save flip-flops with split holes.

Use a post it note to catch drilling debris.

Hey, What’s That Funny LookingScan Code Thing?Known as Quick Re-sponse codes -- "QR" for short –these funny looking little bar codes are two-di-mensional graphic codes that can be used to store information such as URL's, business card information, geographic coordinates or various text data. QR codes were popularized in Japan, and have since become common in North America, due our growing reliance on smartphones with cameras that can be used as bar code scanners.

2. Launch the Scanner application , sim-ply by following the phones prompts.

3 Position the camera so that the QR code is within the square mar-gins of the scanning application screen. The scanner application will use the built-in camera in the smartphone to read the QR code.

4 Choose from the available actions presented by the scanner application. The actions will vary depending on the content of the QR code, such as URL's, text data or map coordinates.

How to Install a QR Code Scanner

1 Install a QR Code scanner on your smartphone. Go to the Mar-ketplace located on your Android/iphone. Various free scanner ap-plications are available for the ma-jor smartphone operating systems

Love

So dogs & puppies jump up on us because we’re taller than they are! When dogs meet, they sniff each other’s faces. They like to do the same thing when greeting us, so it’s natural for dogs to jump up on us to try to reach our faces and get our attention.

What to Do About the ProblemThe key to teaching your dog not to jump on you is to tell her that you only greet dogs who keep their front paws on the floor. Since you can’t tell her with words, you can tell her with actions. When your dog greets you, her goal is to get your attention and to get you

to pet her. Knowing this, you can show your dog what she must do to earn your attention. Keep your attention and your hands away from your dog unless her front feet are on the floor. Two things to remember:1) Immediately give your dog attention and petting the instant her front feet land on the floor. For instance, when you enter a door and your dog jumps up on you, ignore her. Don’t tell her to get off you and don’t push her away. Instead, stand up straight and look over her head. If you move your arms and hands at all, pull them up toward your chest. If she continues jumping all over you, turn away. She’ll have to put her front paws on the floor to follow you. 2) The instant her front paws touch the floor, melt into the wonderful loving owner that you are, and say “Good girl” quietly and pet her head. If she jumps up at your touch, just pull your hand away, stand up straight like before, and ignore her until her feet find the floor once again. The moment her feet touch the floor, pet her. Your attention and your touch are the words that you can use to let your dog how she needs to act to get your attention.Never withhold attention when your dog’s feet finally do touch the floor—even if you’re

irritated at her for jumping a moment earlier. She has to be able to make the connection that front feet on the floor magically result in attention and affection from people.

Additional TipsBecause of their extreme excitement when greeting people, some dogs find it easier to grab a toy to shake or hold, rather than sit for petting. If this sounds like your dog, keep a toy by the front door. When you come home, open the door and immedi-ately direct your dog’s attention to the toy or throw it for her. Do the same thing for your dog when visitors come to your home.

Because teaching your dog not to jump can be challenging, don’t hesitate to enlist the help of a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT) in your area. A professional trainer will offer group or private classes that can give you and your dog lots of help with jump-ing issues. Please see our article, Find-ing Professional Help, to locate a CPDT.

If your dog shows signs of aggression, such as growling or teeth showing while lunging or jumping toward you, your family members or visitors during greetings, you should seek the assistance of a Certified Applied Animal Be-

haviorist (CAAB or Associate CAAB), a vet-erinary behaviorist (Dip ACVB) or a qualified Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT) who has experience treating aggression. If you elect to hire a CPDT because you can’t find a behaviorist in your area, be sure to de-termine whether she or he has professional training and extensive experience in suc-cessfully working with aggression, as this ex-pertise isn’t required for CPDT certification.

What NOT to Do

Do not become really excited when you greet your dog. The calmer you are, the calmer your dog will be.

Do not shout at your dog when she jumps up on you or others. Shouting will just make her more excited and cause more jumping up.

Do not try to grab your dog or push away. Doing that could just cause more jumping up.

Do not knee your dog in the chest, step on her back toes, grab or pinch her front toes, or otherwise cause her pain or dis-comfort. If you do, you’ll frighten and hurt your dog, and she still won’t have learned how to politely greet people.

vices) and build something beyond any-one’s imagination, not just within the county, or the state, but throughout the country,” Hackel said. “I think this is going to be without question something that is go-ing to be a model for others to replicate.”

Referred to as a “state-of-the-art operations and communications center,” this facility will serve as a central office for the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office dispatch (911 calls), the Department of Roads Traffic Operations Center, the Information Technology Data Center and the county’s Emergency Man-agement & Communications Department.

By consolidating these four elements of public safety and their various technolo-gies in a single place, Emergency Man-agement Coordinator Vicki Wolber said the county should be able to “reduce and eliminate redundant systems,” while im-proving the county’s emergency response.

Renovations focus on state-of-the-art technol-ogy. Rather than construct a new building, the roughly 25,000-square-foot center will be built inside the older section of the Macomb County Department of Roads (MCDOR) building on Groesbeck. Renovations will begin in the next few months and Hackel said the new facility should be up and running by this time next year.

Proposed renovations include a 20-by-40-foot video wall that will be accessible to all units in the building, an emergency power genera-tor, eight traffic monitoring positions, 24 dis-patch positions, office/conference space and room to accommodate more than 70 staff.

Architectural mock-ups of the $11 mil-lion facility depict a two-story structure that

vaguely resembles a NASA control room. The video wall, containing 54 70-foot moni-tors, will be the focal point of the center, vis-ible from both floors and able to project mul-tiple images ranging from Doppler radar to real-time video shot by cameras currently found in intersections throughout the county.

Funding for this project will come from a va-riety of sources, including roughly 10 percent ($770,500) from drug forfeitures made by the sheriff’s department. The Michigan Depart-ment of Roads/Federal Highway Administra-tion will supply $3.98 million, while the county’s capital improvement budget will add another $3.57 million. Federal grant programs will cov-er almost $2 million and if Macomb County’s state representatives are successful in obtain-ing a grant from the state’s Economic Vitality Incentive Program (EVIP), another $2 million will be available for additional renovations.

For taxpayers concerned about cost, Hack-el says, “We’re not looking for money, or bonds or increasing taxes … we’re going to utilize current staff” whose salaries are covered by the monies currently allocated their respective departments. Year-to-year operational costs will be covered by the budgets approved for the sheriff’s office, emergency management, MCDOR and IT.“We don’t anticipate having to go out for more money,” Hackel said.Cities encouraged to consoli-date own dispatch with county

And while the center’s primary purpose is to consolidate county services, Hackel said any municipalities wishing to partner with the county to enhance their own emergency services are welcome to do so. This facility is being built for purposes of Macomb County,”

Macomb County Set to Build $11 Million Facility to Merge

Public Safety ServicesMacomb County has plans to house the Ma-comb County Sheriff’s Office dispatch, De-partment of Roads Traffic Operations Center, Information Technology Data Center and Emer-gency Management & Communications De-partment under one one state-of-the-art roof. Think high tech, NASA Space Center facility.Emergency Management Coordinator Vicki Wolber, Sheriff Anthony Wickersham and Ma-comb County Executive Mark Hackel share plans for the $11 million state-of-the-art op-erations and communications center that will combine communication between several Ma-comb County departments such as the Sher-iff’s Office dispatch, the Roads Department Traffic Operations Center, the Information Technology Data Center and the Emergency Management & Communications Department.

“Consolidation” was County Executive Mark Hackel’s catchword Wednesday as he unveiled plans for an $11 million facility to house the coun-ty’s chief players in public safety in one location.“We’re going to bring together (county ser-

Hackel said. “We're not trying to reach out and take over somebody else’s dis-patch center. We want to partner if they’re interested, but only if they’re interested.”

So far, Shelby Township, Clinton Town-ship and Sterling Heights have ex-pressed interest in this partnership.“The 911 center is the backbone of law en-forcement operations,” said Sheriff Anthony Wickersham. “Dispatchers have first con-tact with our citizens that are in need, pro-viding real-time information to responding public safety personnel is going to make our job a lot easier and safer, providing better services to the citizens we protect. Last issue we reported non-foreclo-sure sales rose faster than foreclosure sales – up 10% and up 1.6% respec-tively in metro Detroit’s suburban counties. Our question, “Is this the beginning of a long awaited turn-around for our real estate market?” appears to be affirmed by the recent purchase of $4.7 million dollars in foreclosed Macomb County real estate by one investor, Mr. Bill McMachen of Harrison Town-ship.

FOR MACOMB COUNTY FORECLOSED PROPERTYHOMES McMachen Pays $4.7 MILLION at AUCTIONMcMachen, the owner of a Ma-comb County marina on Lake St. Clair surprised hundreds of inves-tors at a county property auction during the last week of July, when he walked in and offered $4.7 mil-lion for more than 650 foreclosed-upon parcels, county officials said.

Bill McMachen, known throughout Macomb County as the owner and founder of MacRay Harbor Resort, arrived at the county Treasurer's Of-fice tax auction just before 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 31 and, on behalf of a handful of other investors, bought all 657 residential, vacant, industrial and commercial properties, Macomb County Treasurer Ted Wahby told us on Thursday. "Clearly the mar-ket in Macomb County is attractive enough for someone to pay upwards of $4 million to invest in," Wahby said.

The large-scale bid, the biggest of its kind, came as welcome news

to the Treasurer's Office. Some 300 investors hoping to bid one-by-one on the properties were refunded the $500 they deposited in order to register for the annual auction.

Local news stations are reporting Mc-Machen can hardly keep up with the flood of emails from property management companies, would-be investors, families and folks looking to make a fresh start, all looking to get a piece of his purchase of some 650 foreclosed properties.

Real estate brokers seeking homes to flip and single mothers and families with loved ones with disabilities in search of affordable housing are just a few of the emails McMachen has sifted through after news broke of his purchase..

All want to strike a deal with the man who on Tuesday walked into Macomb Coun-ty’s tax foreclosure auction at Freedom Hill in Sterling Heights and left after

buying all the properties for $4.9 million.

The purchase surprised many and frustrated some three hundred other investors who waited hours at the auction but were turned away, their $500 registration deposits in hand. McMachen’s purchase has set the wheels in motion for a very busy future. “It’s overwhelming,” McMachen said Thursday, from his desk inside a cluttered cubicle that he uses in his son’s Harrison Township boat dealership. “I’m having a hard time keeping up with them all.”

McMachen, co-founder of the up-scale MacRay Harbor Resort in Har-rison Township, contacted treasury officials a month ago to let them know that he was thinking about making the large-scale purchase, the biggest of its kind in the county.

His interest was piqued by friends who made good money flipping

MANUFACTURER’S REBATE

Cleaning Up at Auction!McMachen Pays $4.7 MILLION at AUCTION

foreclosed properties, he said.

Treasurer Ted Wahby said a few others expressed interest in purchasing all the properties, and that county officials con-ducting the auction knew McMachen’s intentions when he walked in the door.

“Clearly the market in Macomb County is attractive enough for someone to pay up-wards of $4 million to invest in,” Wahby said after the auction.

Records obtained from the Ma-comb County Treasurers office show that the bulk of the proper-ties — 392 — are in Warren, where 7 percent of its 52,190 housing units were foreclosed upon since 2008.

McMachen plans to appraise each prop-erty as-is and sell them at fair market val-ue. The properties he is unable to sell, he intends to fix up, with the hopes that home improvements will result in sales.

McMachen, known as a visionary philanthropist and business manworked for GM at the Gear and Axle plant with a friend named Connie Ray. It was there that Connie Ray shared with McMachen that he could put car engines in boats. When Connie said that, Bill told him he’d be his first deal-er (and he opened the first Sea Ray Dealership on Van Dyke in Warren.)

It’s well known that McMachen’s ca-reer was defined by building one of the best Sea Ray Dealerships in the country until the fall of 2002, when the economy went sour and he sold his rights to sell Sea Ray to Beauregard of Colony Marine and bought the re-maining share of MacRay Harbor (a marina he’d built with pal Connie Ray, hence MacRay.) Bill lives at the ma-rina within a stones throw of the res-taurant and bar. He continues to be one of Macomb county’s most favored philanthropists and over all “good guy.”

McMachen’s decision to invest in Ma-

comb County, in what’s beingcalled the “biggest transaction of its kind on record” is a true indicator that the

Macomb County real estate market is poised for good things and that our home values are on the rebound.

Sterling Heights —Ford Motor Co.’s Van Dyke Transmission plant has offi-cially added hybrid transmission capacity, adding 225 jobs.

About 130 of those jobs are already filled and the rest will be filled as the plant ramps up production on transmissions for the Ford C-MAX Hybrid, C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid, Fusion Hybrid, Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid and Lincoln MKZ Hybrid.

The Dearborn automaker says it is the only front-wheel drive hybrid transmis-sion to be made in North America. The plant employs about 1,350 workers.

The transmissions are assembled on a new, flexible transmission line that also produces six-speed automatic transmis-sions, part of a $220 million investment.

“We want to be able to respond to what-ever the market wants,” said Jim Tetreault, vice president of North American manu-facturing. Ford can now tailor production of its hybrid transmissions to better meet the demand. Ford celebrated the official launch of its transmission line Thurs-day at an event, which included mem-bers from the United Auto Workers and Sterling Heights Mayor Richard Notte.

To show the flexibility of the new trans-mission lines, workers at the Van Dyke plant could — although it would be an extreme circumstance — alternate hy-

brid and six-speed transmission produc-tion by simply rotating a pallet on the line.

This process is made simpler by the use of “kits” — toolbox-like containers holding the necessary parts for each transmission.

Those kits are put together at Ford’s Rawsonville Plant in Ypsilanti Town-ship, which now handles those du-ties after taking them over from Mexi-can and Chinese auto suppliers.

Previous hybrid transmissions were produced by a supplier facility in Japan; the new transmissions are similar to the previous transmissions but weigh 25 per-cent less. The plant also has two other six-speed transmission lines. Tetreault said the plant is expected to produce 1.5 million transmissions next year. In-house development work reduced costs by 20 percent, the company said. The new hybrid transmission will allow for higher electric speeds by using a cooling system and improved fuel economy. Precise specifications vary depending on vehicle and some have not yet received Environ-mental Protection Agency official ratings.

The new hybrid transmission is part of Ford’s Power of Choice campaign, which includes Ford’s tripling of pro-duction of electrified vehicles in North America. “In the end, product is what wins in the marketplace,” Tetreault said.

The Good Life Just Got Better.

Smart Shopping means Connecting, Comparing & Sharing... Getting the best deals on groceries, clothing, travel, and other expenses requires more than just using coupons or promo codes. Some-times the best deals aren’t found so readily and you’ll have to dig to secure the lowest price. If you tend to be a com-pulsive shopper or always go over bud-get, here are six simple ways to control what you spend without compromising the brands you love or things you enjoy.

1. Shopping Apps ROCK! Ama-zon’s shopping app make it incredibly simple to compare prices at multiple stores just by scanning a barcode or doing a quick product search from your smart-phone or tablet. Whether you’re shopping for the latest tech toys, buying a pair of shoes, or building up your music collec-tion, use shopping apps to make sure you are getting the lowest price. Do some com-parison shopping with the help of shopping apps such as GeoQpons, which displays specials and coupons available from mass merchandisers and local small business-es by locating businesses which are clos-est to your Smartphone’s GPS location.

2. Facebook deals: More and more retailers are posting Facebook-only deals and exclusive offers on their Facebook page. Touch down with your News Feed whenever you plan to head out for some shopping therapy or salon services. From free shipping offers, buy-one-get-one-free specials, and exclusive pricing on products, the deals are endless! Track down the Facebook pages of your favorite local stores, restaurants, salons and spas - even your favorite brands and designers offer deals via Facebook! Take advantage of offers you just won’t find at a department store or from a third-party seller while supporting local businesses.

3.Daily Deal Sites DELIVER BIG!

Beyond Groupon & Livings Social that are al-ways posting great deals on luxury purchases and travel packages, you’ll find dozens of small-er daily deal sites specific to your local area. Check your local newspaper’s shopping section for info on local deals and do an online search for deal sites specific to your city or a city you’ll be visiting. You’ll find deep discounts on every-thing from gym memberships to entertainment venues, family fun centers, spa treatments, res-taurants, home improvements and on and on.

4 Coupon Caddies Are Super Chic! Take advantage of double coupon offers, in-store coupons and printable online coupons by stockpiling them in your super chic coupon cad-dy! Items you use on a weekly or monthly basis can be had for next to nothing if you work your coupon caddy right... Get into the stockpiling habit at warehouse clubs and other discount stores. Even these stores have coupons and in-club offers that help you save more money in the long run. This can be tricky when you don’t have much cash on hand, but can be a great way to cut down the cost of each item. Just make sure you’re aware of the cost per item before you start loading your cart. Not everything you buy in bulk will end up saving you money–especially when you have to throw some items away–so check expiration dates and make sure you’ll actually use up your bulk items within a reasonable amount of time.

5. Read REVIEWS CLOSELY! Save yourself money on trying and testing new prod-ucts by searching for unbiased reviews, recom-mendations, and testimonials. Check out rec-ommendations from your peers on Facebook and seek out the latest reviews so you can make a more informed buying decision. Remember that not all stores or merchants have flexible return policies and you could end up wasting a good amount of money on shipping and re-turns. Make better purchasing decisions so that you don’t have to backtrack and go through the shopping process over and over again.

6. Check your receipts. Pay more at-tention when checking your receipts to make sure you haven’t been overcharged or OVER LOOKED A COUPON! It’s too easy for cashiers to miss coupons and vouchers at the checkout lane. In some cases, the sales price doesn’t

scan correctly. Keep your eye on prices as you go through the checkout and make sure you got all of your discounts before you leave the store. It’s much easier to get a price ad-justment during the same trip. Some stores have a policy where you’ll get the item for free or at a discount because of a pricing error.Even your airline ticket itinerary or reservation may have a special coupon or offer printed at the bottom of the confirmation A friend of mine recently lamented how he’d not read the bottom of his online airline ticket receipt and missed the “free drink” vouchers printed at the bottom of his Southwest Airlines receipt.

Yoga and Pilates the two of the most talked about fitness activities out there today. However, there’s always a

individual is looking for from them.

PiYo - Pilates Yoga

Yoga meets the needs of a person looking for a low-impact, body toning fitness exercise that improves balance and flexibility along with, the tranquility, relaxation and balance of mind, body and spirit. Yoga will definitely help you stay fit, be more energetic, happier and peaceful in your overall life. If you’re looking for a dynamic workout sans the spirituality, then Pilates is just the thing for you. With core focus on strengthening muscles, improving posture, stabilizing and lengthening the spine, Pilates is an overall vigorous workout and fitness routine.

However to get the best of both worlds you can always combine the two with the new modern blend of the two known

as “PiYo”. Pilates Yoga gives you the best of both practices – the stretch from yoga, the strength from pilates, the breathing techniques from yoga with the cardio workout from pilates and finally the relaxing tranquility from yoga meditation together forms a well rounded fitness regime unlike anything else. You can really have it all!

Pilates and Yoga combined the two practices although different in principle, have some similarities as creator Joseph Pilates, was somewhat influenced by the ancient yoga practice. However, his techniques adopted the purely physical aspect of yoga and the postures and exercises he developed are centered around the abdominal muscles, lower back and buttocks referred to as ‘The Powerhouse’. Pilates teaches six principles – concentration, control, centering, breathing, flow and precision. They are aimed at optimizing a full body

dilemma and on going debate on which one of the two is better.

While there’s no correct answer, as it’s subjective to exactly what an

workout without putting strain on the body itself, with the help of specialized equipment. Whereas on the other hand, yoga aims at uniting the mind, the body and the spirit through a philosophical and spiritual focus. The physical aspect of yoga, i.e the poses, stretches and postures are only one of the 8 parts of yoga. Combining the two is a good way of getting more out of both practices.

PiYo classes are conducted in one of two ways:

By starting the session with pilates exercises to warm up the muscles and strengthening the core in preparation for a yoga asana practice followed by a relaxing meditation session; or by incorporating the pilates principles for a workout in the form of modified yoga asanas and sequences.

The combination of the two practices is truly a match made in heaven, as they both compliment each other perfectly. The blend of pilates and yoga is well rounded and helps bring about a balance of body, mind and spirit which most other practices can’t achieve on their own. So, if you haven’t already your local yoga studio or gym for Pilates Yoga classes, sometimes called Piyo or Pi-yo.

Focusing in on Pain

Foot, ankle, and lower back pain affect countless individuals across the world. Many of us will do anything that means not having to undergo surgery. Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning are two such people who as elite athletes chose to forego the down time and potential threats surgery presents. and instead were treated with a new process, called WellWave and the Acoustic Compression Therapy (ACT).

(ACT) was recently tested on 65 patients by Dr. Dixon of Dixon Chiropractic Center in Richmond, Michigan. This targeted, non-invasive pain relief is one of the leading mechanical stimuli helping to alleviate and, in some cases, even stop pain completely. Sound waves that are produced by the WellWave connect at a point deep within the soft tissue to produce an intense, extremely short direction compression

burst. Following the burst, a force is released to the surrounding tissue, much like a deep tissue massage. The results of this targeting option allows health professionals to heal issues with unmatched precision. Using this tool, Dr. Dixon says he knows he’ll positively influence cellular form and function, improve circulation and create a substantial reduction in pain.

To learn more about the benefits of using Acoustic Compression Therapy, call Dr. Dixon at 586.727.7557. Chronic pain in the foot, ankle, and lower leg can hinder almost every aspect of daily activity - WellWave’s ACT has the capacity to improve range of motion, circulation, muscle tightness, and overall healing.

Dr. Dixon is focused on the cutting-edge of the latest trends and technology in foot, ankle, and lower leg healing. He feels that by adding this instrument into his practice, he’ll be able to permanently heal many patients. SPORTS SCENE | LIONS SEASON 2012: Ahead of The PACK & The BEARS

The Detroit Lions are Aces High in every 2012 NFC North matchup—from talent where their opponents are weak to more stability on the coaching staff. The Lions are a team to contend with in 2012,

The 2012 Detroit Lions’ roster, uses several extremely high draft picks to get players like QB Matthew Stafford, WR Calvin Johnson and DT Ndamukong Suh.The Lions drafted Stafford with the No. 1 overall pick, and they selected Johnson and Suh with the No. 2 overall pick. They’ve done a great job of not missing on these players at the top of the draft, but they’ve also drafted playerss late that are producing for them, and they’re using free agency to bring in point-makers on offense and defense. General manager Martin Mayhew has done a super job of bringing in playmakers at every point of the draft, and free agency.

The Lions key is a stable coaching staff, as head coach Jim Schwartz, offensive coordinator Scott Linehan and defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham have been together since the 2009 NFL season. The entire staff returning means players know what the coaches want and they can prepare well for all future expectations.

Comparing them against THE BEARS & the PACK: The Chicago Bears are a team with a ton of challenges before them. New offense, a new offensive coordinator and an entire new group of starting receivers for quarterback Jay Cutler. It’s rare for teams to perform consistently with so many new things happening around them.

Some NFL experts predict the Bears will be playoff contenders in 2012, but reality is no one knows what the offense is going to look like. Mad scientist Mike Martz is out as offensive coordinator and Mike Tice replaces him. This new offense needs more balance, and there needs to be more of an effort to protect the quarterback.

It’ll take time for the Bears to get their offense clicking. It’s fair to make the argument that they’ll have moments where they look dynamic, but the reality is that on offense, the Bears are going to struggle. Passing game will most likely be inconsistent for long stretches.Newly acquired WR Brandon Marshall gets reunited with QB Jay Cutler, as the pair played in Denver from 2006-2008. In Denver, they had great success, but it won’t be as easy as just picking up where they left off. Three seasons have passed since Cutler and Marshall played together.

The Bears added WR Alshon Jeffery in Round 2 of the 2012 NFL draft. Jeffery has

enormous potential, but he needs to develop, as it’s difficult for rookie receivers to make a significant impact in their first year. Jeffery possesses incredible talent, and NFC North teams should fear this passing game in the future, just not in 2012.

The offense is going to need some time to work out the kinks. More importantly, Cutler and the receivers need to develop synergy on the field. It’ll be surprising if the Bears are able to throw the ball consistently in 2012.

The Bears had issues with their offensive line, and they’ve struggled to protect the QB. These issues remain, leading to a big question; Who’s starting at left tackle for the Bears? They have to solve this problem, or they’re going to have significant problems staying competitive with the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions.

The Lions have the same personnel as in 2011. With that comes a large amount of familiarity for QB Matthew Stafford. The Lions’ offensive line did an extremely solid job in 2012.These are areas that the Lions have significant advantages over the Bears. The Bears will struggle to understand their new offense, and they need to develop synergy in the passing game. While the Lions hum on all cylinders.

The Green Bay Packers possess a roster considered to be the deepest and most talented in the NFL. There’s one exception, and it could turn into a major problem if an injury were to hit their starting quarterback.

The backup QB position is a serious weakness for the Pack. If Aaron Rodgers gets injured and misses any time at all, the Pack would be in a sticky spot. The Pack has a lot of veteran leadership, and wouldn’t go belly-up, but they’d not dominate opponents the way they do with Rodgers either.Aaron Rodgers is truly the best quarterback in the NFL.He’s a devastating player that NFL defenses have not been able to stop. The drop-off in play from an elite Rodgers to an unproven Graham Harrell would be something that would sharply damage the Pack. Harrell is untested at the NFL level, and the Pack’s reluctance to add an experienced backup is realistically the only knock that can be made on the entire makeup of their team.

The Packers were solid with Matt Flynn backing up Rodgers over the past few years, but the Seattle Seahawks signed him in free agency. As excellent as GM Ted Thompson has been, it seems that the Packers have overlooked what an inexperienced backup QB would do to their team.

The Lions have a proven NFL player in place to back up starting QB Matthew Stafford. Shaun Hill started games in the NFL, and he makes throws that the Lions would need him to make if Stafford misses any time. There’d be a drop-off, but it wouldn’t be nearly as drastic as what the Pack would face.

The Lions would be biz as usual on offense with Hill, but they’d not be nearly

as potent as with Stafford. With Harrell taking snaps under center, the Pack would have a big hole at the position, and that hole could take a team that is elite and make it average.

The Packers don’t have an elite player like Johnson in their group of WR(s). With exceptional depth and a remarkably solid stable of playmakers for Rodgers. The Lions hold an advantage in this area, as they have one of the best playmakers in the NFL on their roster.

The Pack struggled to get any pressure on the QB in 2012, and lack of pressure led to a poor showing from their secondary. QB pressure and secondary play work together, as pressure

on the QB leads to great secondary play. This lack of pressure exposes the secondary and leads to poor play. According to NFL.com, the Pack finished last in the NFL in pass yards allowed in the 2011 season.

The Pack registered only 29 sacks in 2011, and that’s not where they want to be from a defensive perspective. They finished near the bottom of the NFL in this category, tied with four other teams at No. 27 in the NFL. The Lions hold an advantage in sacking the QB as they tallied 41 sacks last year.

The Lions are ahead of the Pack in a few areas, which could be difference makers during the 2012 season.

Macomb County Chamber of Commerce Rates 2012 CandidatesMOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. (July 26, 2012) –The Macomb County Chamber has released its evaluation of candidates running for of-fice in the primary election on August 7. As the voice of business in Macomb County, the Macomb County Chamber rates candidates based on their knowledge of issues relating to economic development, business envi-ronment and the future of Macomb County. The Chamber sends out a questionnaire to all county and state candidates each elec-tion cycle and also invites them to interview with members of the Chamber’s Public Policy Committee and Board of Directors. “Our evaluation process is truly bi-partisan,” said Grace Shore, CEO. “This process is not about party affiliation. Our committee looks for individuals with the skill set and innova-tion to move our state and county forward.”
