Fiscal Year 2012 (July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012) was a period of transition for After School Matters.

In July 2011, Mr. Raymond orozco was appointed CEo to guide our organization as

important structural and operational changes were made to enhance teen recruitment

and to strengthen the quality of our programs. We also continued to celebrate the life and

legacy of our Founder and Chair Maggie daley who passed on thanksgiving day. In June 2012,

Mr. orozco retired and youth advocate and educator dr. Mary Ellen Caron was appointed

CEo. Shortly after, Ariel Investments President and longtime supporter Mellody hobson

was named chair.

As we look ahead to the coming year, we plan to further infuse our programs with career

readiness skills and provide additional offerings in science, technology, engineering and

mathematics to make our youth competitive in the workforce. We look forward to building

upon the vision of Mrs. daley to impact even more Chicago youth and to provide key

skills for life after school to those who need it most.
