OUR TEACHING AND LEARNING THIS WEEK!

CHINA STUDYStudents will continue to learn about Chinese Traditional Costumes- The Han Dynasty 2 中国传统汉服 2。

TOPICThis week for Topic students will continue their work with finding and presenting information about continents and oceans. Students will also use Google Earth to find popular landmarks around the world. They will learn how to find\ North, South, East and West on a map and be able to use these directions to navigate around the school.

LITERACY   ‘In Literacy, we will continue our work on Instructions. Students will be following instructions in order to make a ‘special’ treat!Learners are then supported with writing instructions for their own ‘imaginary’ sandwich ;-)We will also focus on the layout of instruction and the use of imperative verbs.’

MATHEMATICSGet excited because this week is......MATHS WEEK! Maths Week will be a celebration of mathematics, but with an artistic twist. Students will create art pieces using their knowledge of shapes, patterns, and multiplication. The budding artist-mathematicians will have a chance to display their art with all of Primary with a M-ArT-Hs museum on Friday.

SHOW-AND-TELL : ‘Countries of the World’: Students can bring any item from a country they have visited, or they could also bring a photo/postcards along, of a country that they have visited.

Weekly Homework

Chinese Homework every week night plus

Monday: English Literacy including Spelling WordsTuesday: Mathematics / MathleticsWednesday: English Literacy or Topic relatedThursday: Mathematics / Mathletics (only assigned on Tuesdays, so if they have completed the tasks by Thursday, they can play games on Mathletics to help with their speed)

English Reading every night. To develop comprehension, discuss the story after reading it.

Literacy and Spelling homework will often be activity based and may include games to play.

Topic homework may be assigned over one night or over a week and may include research or some components of individual projects.

Students' Spelling progress will be monitored each week in a variety of ways including Formative Assessment, monitoring of spelling use in written work or Spelling tests or Quizzes.

Mathletics forms the basis of our Mathematics homework. Your child should spend 20 minutes on the set tasks and then at least 10 minutes on the ‘Maths Live’ component, which is designed to help students learn their basic facts. Other Mathematics activities will be assigned from time-to-time. These will generally need adult support. YEAR 2 SPELLING WORDS: Lists are below. Please check your child`s spelling list every Monday to ensure they are studying the correct list. Please complete the activities for the corresponding list on www.spellingcity.com. EAL STUDENTS WILL HAVE DIFFERENT WORDS.
