Dear children, we recognise that the summer break may not be the same for you as it would normally be. Here is a range of different and fun activities that you could do to keep your minds and hands busy. Try to see how many of them you can cross off over the six weeks.

Glove Monsters and sock puppets

Find some old socks or gloves to make a puppet. Can you put on a puppet show for your family?

Family charades

Instructions: • Divide into pairs or in small groups and sit facing each other. • Take it in turns to act out a word or phrase to make each other laugh. • Think of a famous character or a funny prank, something everyone will know. • You have two minutes for each turn. The person/team with the most amount of laughs wins.

Superhero badge

Design a badge filled with all the things that make you feel happy. Which super powers might your superhero have? They could be the world’s best

listener, the most amazing friend or have the power to show every young person in

the world that they’re not alone.

Music: Carnival of the Animals

Make a musical carnival of different animal sounds e.g. an elephant, lion, fish. What household items could you find to make each animal sound? Get Creative

Make some microwave ‘puffy’ paint. Here’s the recipe: Plain flour Salt Water A teaspoon of baking powder Food colouring. The paint should be about as thick as pancake batter. Use your fingers to get creative on the page. Then, put it in the microwave for 30 seconds.

Tied up in knots

Over, under, around and through, meet Mr Bunny Rabbit, pull and through. Now is a really great time to master tying your shoelaces ready for year 3! Use this rhyme to help you.

Slippery Slopes

Become the fastest slider at the park. Explore materials to see which are super slippery and which are super sticky. Using materials from around the house, e.g. baking tray, books, different materials, coins, make a slide at the park and test out which materials make the best slide. Try rolling the coins or toy cars down the slope, which material is the fastest? Maybe you could time them. Does making the slope steeper make it roll faster or slower?

The Greatest Dancer

Choose your favourite pop song and become choreographer for the day. Make up a dance routine, practice it and then ask a grown up to video your performance. Maybe you could teach your dance moves to another member of your family?

Feeling Fruity?

Next time you visit the shop, have a look at all the different fruits and vegetables. Ask your grown up if you can buy one that you have never eaten before. Find out what it is called. Which country it was grown in. Draw a picture of it. Eat it and enjoy! Give it a score out of 10, 10 being absolutely delicious and 1 being yucky!!

Counting Champ

Take some everyday objects in your house (forks, apples,

keys, etc) use them to create equal groups of two.

How many of each object do

you have? Are you counting in 2’s?

Challenge: Can you do the same by grouping in 5’s, 10’s

and 3’s?

Your History

Each one of us has our own history. Where were we born

and where have we lived? Who makes up our family? Do you have any pictures?

Write a story about your life (autobiography) or make a timeline with 6 important events in your life.

Will it dissolve?

This activity teaches children about solubility, specifically whether a given substance

will dissolve in water.

You’ll need several small,

transparent water containers (e.g. plastic or glass cups)

and a range of substances to test (e.g. sugar, oil, salt, food colouring, rice, flour, vitamin

tablets). Before dropping each

substance into a cup ask the children to guess whether it

will dissolve or not.

Create a bubble map with a picture of your favourite animal

at the centre with at least 6 facts about the animal.
