DEPRESSION &

ANXIETY

BAD HABITS

BLACK & WHITE THINKING

Seeing things as either black or white - right or wrong,

good or bad. It's hard to see shades of grey in life, and

just because something has happened doesn't

necessarily mean there is only one outcome.

Example: I am annoyed with person X, therefore I no

longer like them and the relationship is ruined. Everyone

gets annoyed, it doesn't mean it can't be resolved.

COMPARING WITH

OTHERS

You are not anyone else. Your situation is not the same

as anyone else's, and you cannot compare your life or

experiences to theirs.

Example: My friend is the same age as me and has a

house, dog, husband/wife etc. What's right for them

might not be right for you.

EXPECTATIONS

Having unreasonably high expectations of yourself, using

these as an excuse to belittle or think negatively about

yourself when they are not met (relates to comparison

with others). High expectations of others due to how you

think/behave, feeling let down when they are not met.

Example: I think things through all the time and make

plans - it annoys or upsets me when others don't do the

same. Not everyone has the same thinking patterns.

THINKING ABOUT

THINKINGBeing unable to stop trying to control your thoughts,

thinking about and analysing every thought or action you

have. Overthinking to the tiniest degree, attempting to

monitor or manage thoughts almost to the point of

obsession.

MIND READINGAssuming that you know what everyone is thinking -

usually to affirm what you think about yourself.

Example: I missed person X's party, I bet they think I am

lazy or a bad person. It's unlikely they think that - give

yourself a break.
