NEWS FROM THE MUSIC DEPARTMENT Spring is always a busy time for the music students. We are busy preparing for the Pops Concert, District Music Contest, Spring Concerts and Graduation. All this is hap-pening while playing pep band at the basket-ball games. The Pops Concert will be presented on Thursday, March 14th at 7:00 pm. The cho-rus students will perform a variety of music for the audience. You will hear familiar mu-sic from several decades that will be familiar and entertaining. Wynot Lady Blue Devils

The 2016/2017 basketball season was a very successful season. We were very fortunate to play the season without any injuries and the girls came together as a team and played some great basketball for most of the season. We were lead by four seniors who really had great high school careers. Our four seniors were Cortney Linder, Cortney Arkfeld, Skylar Arkfeld, and Carissa Kuchta. These girls have a bright future ahead of them and I am excited to see what the future has in store for them.

Our underclassmen consisted of two juniors in Maddy Gartner and Julia Eskens. We had one sophomore this year in Dharian Ahrens and seven freshman in Katelyn Heine, Kaitlyn Heimes, Michaela Lange, Whitney Hochstein, Noelle Wieseler, Emma Greninger, and Shaelee Plan-er. This group of girls did a great job of supporting the seniors this year both on the court and off the court and they also have a bright future ahead of them. I am also excited to see them develop as both basketball players and individuals in the years to come.

This season was a huge success for this team both on the court and off the court. On the court we had many accomplishments. We were able to win the Hartington Classic Tourna-ment in early January and in February we were able to win the Lewis & Clark Tournament for only the second time in the last 30 plus years. We were also able to take State Runner Up in March which was a great accomplishment for this team. All of these accomplishments were very gratifying, but for me the most gratifying memory I will have this year is to see how the team came together as the season progressed and learned to play for each other and support each other both on the court and off the court.

In closing I would like to thank our assistant coaches Shelly Arkfeld and Kelly Wieseler for all they did this year for the girls. I also want to thank the community and the parents for all the support they have given the girls and the program and lastly I want to thank the girls for the great 2016/2017 basketball season.

WYNOT BLUE DEVILS BOYS BASKETBALL

2016-2017 Season

The boy’s basketball season was very successful. We reached the state tournament and finished third overall in class D-2. We also won the sportsmanship award for our school. That is a great accom-plishment for our school and the people who support the boys’ basketball team. Our goal at the begin-ning of the season was to make it back down to state tournament and then set a new goal of winning 1 game at a time. This group of seniors did a great job of leading us to the State Tournament in Lincoln. The regular season was full of challenging teams. We faced four teams that made it to the state tourna-ment. The losses in the regular season came from schools that are bigger in class size than us. The play-ers kept pushing forward and didn’t lose track of their goals. This team was successful because of their leadership, good attitudes, being competitors, dedication, work ethic in practice and games, and working together towards a common goal. These players truly believed that they could beat anybody any given day. The players enjoyed going to state basketball because of all the hard work that they put in the sum-mer mornings, going to basketball camps and the practices. Six seniors led us: Dawson Sudbeck, Justin Koch, Cody Linder, Cael Sudbeck, Jalen Wieseler, and Cole Schumacher. These six seniors did a great job this year and they will be missed next year! Our juniors did a great job of working and providing depth to our team. The practices were very competitive because of the depth we had as a team. The jun-iors were Justin Lange, Ethan Lange, Corbin Sudbeck, Ben Hite, Kevin Bruening, and Lucas Thingstad. They will be leaders of our team next year. The sophomores improved throughout the year and were able to push for playing time at the varsity level. The sophomores have learned much throughout the year. They have improved their basketball skill and understanding of the game. The sophomores were Jacob Wieseler, Ethan Hochstein, Nate Wieseler, Aydon Tramp, and Landon Wieseler. The freshman learned and improved from game to game. The game speed is different in high school and they adapted well. The freshman did a great job of competing and learning. The freshman were Hunter Heimes, Mitchell Leise, Cody Osbhar, and Grant Beste.

In closing, I thank all the parents, fans, and the administration for all the support you gave the boy’s basketball team. Reaching our goal of making it to the state tournament was a great accomplish-ment. The life lessons we learned from the game of basketball can help us be great young leaders in the game of life.

Thank you,

Coach Heimes

Superintendent’s notes: We are close to the end of the 3rd quarter. I hope our students have found the second semester to be a positive learning experience. I know the students and staff are all looking forward to the upcoming girls and boys state basketball tournament and the state speech competition (GO BLUE DEVILS)!!!

As a reminder, we will dismiss school on Thursday, March 2nd at 12:00pm and we will not have school on Friday, March 3rd. We will dismiss school on Thursday, March 8 at 12pm and we will not have school on Friday, March 10th. Third quarter ends March 9th. With the start of 4th Quarter, we have roughly 42 days of school left be-fore summer break! As we all know, that time will fly by. Likewise, Easter break is April 14th-17th, and I hope everyone is able to relax during Easter Break! Whether your family is staying home, or getting out of town, I wish each of you a safe and blessed Easter!

We will be starting the registration process for next year. I know our high school and middle school are anxious on working through this process. Also, we are currently encouraging attendance at our Kin-dergarten Round-up and Preschool Open House which have been moved to May 10 from 8:30am—11am. If you have any questions about classes or Kindergarten Round-up, feel free to contact the school.

I know this time of year is when students will be MAP and NeSA test-ing. We will let students and parents know when testing will take place, we ask that parents encourage each child do their very best! Wynot Public Schools is proud of our winter test results, and want to remind parents to make sure each student gets a good night sleep and hearty breakfast, before testing and throughout the year. Thank you for your support.
