Support Team Map
Ask everyone to take 5-10 minute to draw a diagram on a piece of paper:● Everyone should draw a circle in the middle of their blank piece of paper and put
their name in that circle● Have them then think of two difficult situations within the last 3 years, one
professional and one personal, in which they sought out help, support, and advice. These could be difficult predicaments they faced, though decisions or choices, or general turning points in their lives.
● For each situation, everyone should do three things:i. Write three bullet points to capture the situation
ii. Identify all the people you turned to for support, help, and advice. Add these people to the diagram, connected to you in the middle with spokes. The people in both situations should be in this single diagram.
iii. For each person in the diagram (in or next to each circle), write down first name, relationship (e.g., family, friend, co-worker, superior, client, direct report, teacher, coach, etc.) and what sort of support, help, advice was received form that person. You can also use the length of the spoke to designate how close your relationship was to that person when you sought support.
