Process Description

A bitumen emulsion is bitumen, which has been converted to a fine suspension of bitumen droplets in water, usually by

means of a high energy shearing device called a "colloid mill". These droplets are prevented from agglomerating by the

action of chemical emulsifiers which cause the surface of the droplets to become charged and hence repel each other.

In emulsified form bitumen can be handled at ordinary

temperatures and this eliminates the need of

expensive solvents as diluents.

In the first stage, the hot bitumen is pumped at the required temperature (usually

around 185ºC) into agitated tank. The thermo-plastic rubber is added and stirred

for equal distribution. Following the mix flows to the mill by gravity.

The mix is passed through the mill to physically reduce the thermo-plastic rubber

particles in size by mechanical shear, accompanied by a significant input of heat

energy. This provides rapid and efficient disintegration of the thermo-plastic

rubber particles in the bitumen.

The most common production configuration is the batch production where all

chemical products converge into a reactor followed by recirculation through a

high shear mill, to achieve homogeneity and final properties.

What is it?

It is a flexible and self-stabilizer bag designed to

carry up to 1000 kg of industrial bitumen for road

pavement, taking into account the viscoelastic flow

characteristics in storage (solid), and transport

conditions. Suitable for filling in liquid conditions at

the optimum product temperature. The normal inner

bag is made from a dissolvable plastic sheet. The

volume of the bag and shape are optimized for

maximum load of normal standard containers for

transport by sea and by road in trucks.

BITUMEN COOLING AND PACKAGING EQUIPMENTThe bag is filled with the bitumen filling equipment.

The product filling temperature is precisely controlled to be

pumpable, but low enough to avoid the dissolution of the plastic

container. Patented safe and reliable.

BITUMEN STORAGE IN BAGSThe filled bag is transferred to a storage area where it is

cooled by environment until the bitumen to reach a solid state.

No energy consumption.

TRANSPORTFor long-distance transport the bags can be loaded into

standard containers of 6 meters. It is possible to stack 2 layers

to use the capabilities of volume and weight of the container. Based on

1000 kg bags on a container can carry up to 20 tonnes.

BITUMEN MELTINGThe solid bitumen is liquefied in economic manner directly on

the application site in bitumen melter that can be integrated on a hot mix

preparation process.
