NEWS FROM AND FOR THE CONGREGATION

--With sadness we report the death of our longtime Sister In Christ, DORIS EVANSat the age of 93. Doris had been a member of our congregation since 1960, and was suchkind and generous lady. A Memorial Service will be held at the church this Thursday,March 1, at 2:00 PM. Our love to her longtime companion and friend, Ann, and to allDoris' extended family. More information about her life will appear in next month'snewsletter.

--We also are keeping CAROL HANSEN in our prayers. Carol is gravely ill at theCapitol Care center. Our love to husband Jack and all their family.

--We're glad to hear that MARILYN WILLIAMS came through her knee surgerywith flying colors and is "back on her feet". We look forward to seeing her in church soon!

--Glad to see CHARLOTTE DAY back in church last Sunday! Charlotte had footsurgery last month and is now recuperating nicely.

--Special thanks to the choir for their especially excellent anthems these last twoSundays! Please know how much we appreciate your time and talents and hard workevery week!

--ANNE BURKHOLDER wiD be our organist/pianist for the first two Sundays ofMarch as Ginny Trapp and Tom Falash - along with Tom and Jane Eubanks - will be offfor a long ocean cruise that will take them from the Caribbean through the Panama Canal.

--THE SPRING ASSEMBLY of the Central Pacific Conference will be held May 18-19 at the Hillsdale United Church Of Christ in Portland. The emphasis this year will be onOur Church's Wider Mission, and will feature the Bishop of our sister church, the UnitedChurch in the Philippines. «you'd be interested in attending, please let Mike know.

--Thanks to our four members of the Pilgrim Cove Board, AL BUSCHE, CARLVAN SLYKE, JANICE AAGAARD, AND ANN DURAND, for all their hard work anddiligent efforts to bring stability and a bright future to our Pilgrim Cove Camp. Also inline for special commendation is JACK WENSKE, who, in his role as Moderator of theIdaho Association, has played a leading role in recent deliberations.

--Perhaps more than any other time of the year, the seven-week Lenten Seasonleading up to Easter helps us get back to the roots of our faith, and causes us to re-examineour lives and our commitments to Christ. We see and hear again the stories of Jesus'teachings and commandments, of his love and sacrifices, of his determination to bring newlife and hope to a spiritually starving world. As writer Mark Neilsen wrote:

Thank God we have a Savior who was willing to love us to his very last breath.Thank God he held nothing back.

Thank God we are no longer slaves to sin and the fear of death.

May we all reconnect this Lenten Season to our God who has given us abundant lifenow and the promise of life forever through the Resurrection of his Son Jesus Christ.

Thursday, just in time for the community supper . The dishwasher cost$3,401.54, then there was the cost of the plumber and the electrician to get it installed and

hooked up for a total of $3880.95 . The Women's Fellowship donated$3000. toward the cost and the Treasure Valley Food Coalition donated $200. and along

with some other donations, we have a total of $3250.00 leaving a balance

due of $630.00 . If you could drop your loose

Notes from the Board

In spite of our shortcomings, Jesus is the perfect friend; afriend who forgives our every fault. Change in each of ourlives, and the life our Church is constant, yet Jesus' love for usis steadfast and unfailing. Carol Rivers opened our meetingwith a poetic devotion on friendship. Knowing we have afriend in high places we conducted the business of our Church.

Our Church season is changing, with the beginning ofLent. Unlike our Idaho weather, we know what to expect. Lentis sad, as we know what fate will befall Jesus, but joyful as wecome to understand the final results. Without Jesus suffering, you and I would not be saved.

We are now into our budget and expenses for 2012. Weare expecting continued challenges as work through thesedifficult financial times. However we are full of hope and faiththat better times are in store and the best is yet to be. Thankyou for your continued support.

It is good to see new faces at our Church. If you are one ofthese new faces, we welcome you, and invite your continuedpresence. Our Church is open to all who believe in the Bibleand Christ Jesus. We pray you find this a satisfying Church.experience.

We all need a friend, and we all have a friend in Jesus.

Respectfully submitted,Will Patterson, Board Chair

PULPIT EXCHANGESUNDAY, MARCH 18

On Sunday, March 18, our morning worship service will be honored to have theRev. Kim Cran of our sister congregation, First Congregational UCC, as our preacher. Atthe same time, Mike will be filling the pulpit at First Church.

Kim has been the Minister at First Church for just about three years now. She is agraduate of the State University of New York-Buffalo, and General Theological Seminaryin New York City. Among other places, she has served congregations in New York andScotland, where she met and married her husband, Bill.

Kim is a wonderful speaker, and we urge everyone to be present so that we have afull house to welcome her.

A story from your Global Ministries I ib~~RCH"May those who sow in tears reap with shouts of joy!"

Psalm 126:5

The Tear Stained Floorm:OOarn, Sunday morning in Maputo, Mozambique. The Women's Xirilo (the women's group of the UCCin Mozambique) gathered at the Mavalane Churchto welcome three new women into the Xirilo. Thesethree women made vows to be prayerful women ofGod, to wear their uniforms proudly and to committo serving the church. Rev. Maria "bloused" theirstark white shirts with a new belt and a blue bow. There was much singing and dancing in celebration! JONATHANAND DAWNBARNES

After the sermon the Xirilo and deacons of the churchcarne forward, bowed down on their knees and began to pray out loud together. I satin my chair right beside where the people were bowed down. There were some peoplewhispering to God, others shouting, some solemn, some crying, but all bowed downon both knees seeking ... hoping ... praying. I felt uncomfortable and humbled sittingin my chair, looking at this wonderful act of worship. I was challenged to think aboutmy own prayer life while watching sisters and brothers in Christ pour their heartsout to God. The power of the Holy Spirit was so real, you could feel it moving anddancing among the prayers.

When this group of people quietly and solemnly returned to their benches, there, where they had prayed, was a tear stained floor. There were small puddles of tearson the floor where people had been pouring out their hearts to God. To me this wasevidence - evidence of God. - evidence that the Holy Spirit was in this place. Soonthose tears were dried up with the movement of feet dancing, singing and celebratingagain. But the picture in my mind is still there ... tears of God's people poured out inworship and prayer.

o God, when have I last had a tear stained floor? When have I last poured out myheart to You and felt the Holy Spirit dance among my prayers? It is time .. .it is time!

OFFERING - SUNDAY, MARCH 18, 2012

Share the joy!

You know the joy of giving - the delight you share when your

gift makes a difference in someone's day. Imagine the joy whenyour gift changes someone's life.

In church, we talk about God providing us with blessings in

abundance, yet every 'day we see people who live with far less.Millions of God's children in the world live on less than we spend

on a cup of coffee. Hundreds of thousands live every day in the

midst of violence and war. And countless families both here andabroad find themselves at the mercy of nature's fury with few

resources to restore their homes and rebuild their lives.

Ever think God wants you to be a bearer of abundance - tobe more than just a recipient of God's love and blessing? Thatyou can be the channel through whom God satisfies the hungry,

comforts the distressed, and brings hope to the hurting?

For over 65 years, Christians in North America have changed lives with

their gifts to One Great Hour of Sharing. By sharing our resources,

we share God's love and blessing, bringing joy to thousands of God'schildren who wait for their seed of hope to bloom.

Even when times are tough and the world around us seems

uncertain, are we confident enough in God's blessings to shareabundantly with those in need? Create more joy in the world

with your generous gift to One Great Hour of Sharing.

"GOD IS ABLE TO PROViDEYOU WITH EVERY BLaESS~MGI~

ABUNDAMCE, SO THAT BY ALWAYSHAVIMG EMOUGH OF EVERYTHING,YOU HAY SHARE ABUNDANTLY 1MEVERY GOOD WORK."
