IN LOVING MEMORYDoris Irene Evans

On March 1, we celebrated the long, good life of our beloved sister in Christ, DorisEvans, who passed away at the age of 93. Doris had been a member of our congregationfor over 50 years, and was always a cheerful, loving, and generous part of our worship andWomen's Fellowship.

Born and raised in Mountain Home, Doris graduated as Valedictorian of her HighSchool Class of 1936. Right out of high school, she and four other girls moved to the "BigCity" of Boise, where she attended Boise Business College. She then worked a couple ofyears for the old C. C. Anderson Department Store, before beginning what would become a40-year career with Idaho First National Bank (now US Bank). She began as a secretaryand would rise to become the Executive Secretary to the President of the bank by the timeshe retired in 1980.

By the way, one of those other girls who moved to Boise with Doris in 1936 was AnnUrrusuno, who would be Doris' partner and soulmate all the rest of her life. Among otherthings, Doris and Ann loved to travel, which included trips to Europe and Hawaii andmany places in between.

We will all remember Doris as the epitome of joy and kindness, and give thanks forher life and faith! And, as seemed so typical of her faithful generosity, she bequeathed alove gift of $10,000 to her beloved church for its future work and ministries. Rest in peace,Doris, in the arms of your Savior.

Notes From The Board

"Have faith; we do this for all the generations to come. DearLord, as tired as we may become, we are willing and eager to do yourwork, knowing it is for your glory!" We opened our board meeting withan encouraging devotion which acknowledged the effort involved inmaintaining our faith and completing the work of our Church.

o glorious spring! 0 what joy is to come! Have you felt thewarm rain and gentle sunshine? Easter is upon us with all the hope andpromise of new life and new energy for our world. Celebrate Easter andlive anew.

We would like to thank all who donated toward the newdishwasher, especially our faithful and devoted women of the Church. We will use and enjoy clean dishes for years.

Saturday, April 7, beginning at 9:00 AM with a light breakfast,we are planning a general spring clean up of our Church and grounds. We welcome all who can help, even if you can only do a little, togetherwe can accomplish a lot.

Calling all rummage: We will soon be having our Rummage Sale. This is a great opportunity to un-clutter your life and then to replacethe clutter with treasures. You never know what you may find.

Please plan to attend our Summer "Wright Wroundup"Celebration, Saturday, June 23. This promises to be a lot of fun.

Now we must do our part, just as past generations did theirs.

A story from your Global Ministries I ~J~~rL"By God's great mercy we have been born anew to a living hope through theresurrection of Jesus Christ ... "

I Peter 1:3b

Hope Through Resurrection18ach day of the week prior to the March 11 anniversary, thenewspapers carried articles related to the disastrous earthquakeand tsunami in Japan. At the Emmaus Center, our mission churchpartner in Sendai, we planned a simple opening ceremony for anew base of operations in the village of Shichigo. The villagersinvited us to be a constant presence there, and have gifted us witha base of operations. Many of the volunteers who worked throughthe Emmaus Center returned for the anniversary. At 2:46 in theafternoon we all held hands for yet another minute of silence inremembrance. Lost lives, lost homes, lost livelihoods, lost community, lost relationships, lost security of life.Yet in the midst of all this loss wecelebrated that we had come together in a way we had never cometogether before.

This was a simple way to witness to the HOPE that is newly resurrected within ourhearts. I read that 260,000 people are still displaced and that only 5% of the debrisleft from the tsunami has been disposed. The number of volunteers at any giventime last summer was 100,000, in the month of January it was 5000. The needs aregreater now than ever, and yet interest is declining. Here at the Emmaus Centerthough, we have a constant number of volunteers coming to help. There are schools, churches and individuals who have benefited through their experience with us 'whocome back to help. To date we have had 1750 volunteers. It has been an incredibleyear. It has been a blessing to be at the heart of a relief effort so genuine and fruitful.

Our prayer today is for the peace that comes with patience, time and understanding, bringing hope even in hopeless situations.

Global Ministries missionary, Jeffrey Mensendiek, serves the Council on CooperativeMission in Japan. He is assigned to the Emmaus Center in Sendai where he hadworked as director of youth activities, and has now become coordinator of volunteerrecovery efforts.
