WHAT A WONDERFUL SHOW?
Congratulations to the organising committee and helpers, on producing by far the best village show in the area. There was something for everyone in the wide variety of displays and entertainment. The perfect conditions helped attract a large attendance, a just reward for all the hard work involved in putting the show on.
This edition covers August and September so, by the time the next one comes out, harvest will be all but cleared up, and summer just a memory. How quickly time passes as one gets older. I remember my early days at Wrangle School, and how the time seemed to drag. Monday morning to Friday afternoon lasted about three weeks, and the summer holidays went on for ever.
Something I never saw, as a youngster, was a toad. Father used to say they often made a home in an old brick heap or similar. Now I see toads regularly, mainly small and very dark ones. They appear in the buildings and particularly along the door runners. My young Border Collie pup brought one to me recently, and put it down on the yard. It immediately crawled away, apparently unharmed. It was almost black and would have fitted in a match box. We often hear of more species being added to the endangered list, so it is good to see something bucking the trend. Enjoy the rest of the summer.

From the desk of your Vicar…
Don’t we live in a very beautiful part of the country? Take time to delight in it!
And isn’t it lovely when we get a lovely patch of summer weather? Do enjoy it!
It seems that as a country we have suffered blow after terrible blow, scarcely getting over one massive and awful newsworthy event before the next one hit. It sometimes feels like we are reeling from this pounding! I do hope we get a few clear weeks and months because there are loads of things we need to work through.
I have been so impressed with the way a single appalling act or incident can produce such a large quantity of sacrificial acts of kindness, small and large. It helps to restore faith in humanity. Manchester’s Spirit, and London’s Spirit, in standing together and rallying round have themselves made the news. The spirit that has been remarkable in the face of atrocity, it is a spirit of “We carry on...” we might say the business as normal approach.
We live away from the epicentre of these events in our beautiful village but we must not do less than those on these new and moving front lines. Their response challenges us to be more welcoming and resolutely hospitable; we must be tolerant of difference but intolerant of hatred. You see, if we become less welcoming, if we become less hospitable, if we become more suspicious, if we allow rudeness against those who may be a little different, then terrorism has scored a victory goal and has room to cheer because their actions have changed the quality of our lives and freedoms.
The Christian values which underpin our society include self-giving love, Christ told us to love each other and even to love our enemy.
Wishing you every blessing

Home-Start Lincolnshire Reach 1100 Children Campaign Recruiting volunteers to become family support mentors. Family support mentors play a key role in the changes Home-Start can make in children’s lives. As one family support mentor said “It’s not rocket science, it’s just one parent sharing time with another parent. Offering weekly support visits to families who are finding it hard to cope, providing practical and emotional support to help reduce isolation, increase parent’s skills and confidence and widen families’ links with their communities. The ultimate aim is to make children’s lives happier and more fulfilled. Often the simple act of providing a listening ear is what gets a family through the week.
This is ideal for adults with parenting experience.

The House With No Front Door
Wrangle Show brought the village to life in its own amazing way! Beneath clear, blue skies the crowds came to enjoy a perfect day. Moto Stunts astounded us; bikes flying through the air. The children’s work inspired us, along with marquee fayre. The show brought happy memories of when I once lived there, in the house in the corner of the field - the one like children draw; four front windows, ‘though, surprisingly, no front door! Horse-boxes and horses lined up quite near our fence each year. They stayed for several days and when they’d left, huge mushrooms would appear! Our ‘family teas’ on show day sadly are no more but Wrangle Show’s creating new memories to treasure like those of years before - in that welcoming house with no front door.

Wrangle Show
The committee would like to thank everyone who came and supported the show,
entered their exhibits, were a steward, gave sponsorship or helped in any
other way, it was very much appreciated. We would also like to congratulate
the many prize winners on their successes.
Am sure you will all agree that it was a brilliant day, even the weather was on
our side in the end! The visitors came early in large numbers again this year.
The day was full of action with Moto Stunts International, The Galloping
Acrobats and the Essex Dog Display Team in the arena, the Dream Belles and
The Billinghay Ruffs entertaining everyone in the marquee, the magnificent
show of heavy horses and Aldabra Giant Tortoises to name just a few. Our
new ‘Kiddies Corner’ was very popular with Burger Bill’s Magic Show and Twist
& Make balloon modeller making all kinds of things!
The ladies helping in the tea tent did an excellent job as usual and Mr Chips
was kept busy serving up freshly fried chips, thank you all for keeping us fed!
We have received numerous favourable comments and are feeling that after all
the months of planning and hard work it was a ‘job well done’!
For those of you wondering who won the Grand Draw we are pleased to say
that the £100 was won by Andrew White, the £50 was won by Pheobe Smith
and the £25 was won by John Dowson, thank you to everyone who bought
tickets.
If anyone has any comments, good or bad, we would love to hear them, you can
post them on our Facebook page or contact a committee member.
Anyone wanting to get involved can come along to our Annual General Meeting
on Tuesday 12th September, 8pm in the Bricklayers Arms, everyone is welcome.
2018 will be the 40th Anniversary of the Show since its revival. Fundraising
started after the Jubilee in 1977 and the first show was held in 1978. I’m
sure many of you will remember the show in 1978 and may have photographs
etc from it? We are hoping to do a display of photographs and memorabilia
from previous shows, if anyone has anything we could borrow and copy we
would be most grateful, please contact a member of the committee or myself.
