Everglades Restoration Accelerated Projects

• C-43 (Caloosahatchee River) West Reservoir

• EAA Reservoir Phase I/Boles & Cross Canals

• EAA Stormwater Treatment Area Expansion

• Picayune Strand (Southern Golden Gate Estates) Restoration

• C-44 (St. Lucie Canal) Reservoir / STA

ACCELER8 Achieves Restoration Goals Faster

• Reduces excess stormwater deliveries to estuaries

• Provides over half of planned CERP surface water storage

• Earlier improvements to water quality

• Provides greater flood control and water supply management flexibility

• Focuses on CERP projects with Project Implementation Reports (PIR) in progress

• Provides greater opportunities for improved timing / hydropatterns to the natural system

Purpose of BODR is to provide a platform for consolidation of design concepts that may be presented for technical and stakeholder review with the goal of obtaining comment and ultimate buy-in on the proposed design concept.

Key elements of the EAA/STA-2 Cell 4 BODR include:

BASIS OF DESIGN REPORT SUMMARY

• Site Investigations

• Design Criteria Development

• Hydrologic and Hydraulic Analysis

• Project Layout & Evaluation of Alternatives

• Conceptual Project Features Design

• Develop Opinion of Probable Cost

• Supporting Engineering Analysis

EAA/STA-2 Cell 4 DESIGN FEATURES

• 2,015 acre expansion to STA-2– Approximately 2.3 miles wide and 2 miles long

• Submerged Aquatic Vegetation (SAV)– Average water depth 1.25’ to 1.5’– Operating range 0.5’ to 4.5’

Page 11: WRAC Issues Workshop EAA/STA-2 Expansion Cell 4 April 11, 2005

EAA/STA-2 Cell 4 Design Features

• Optimize the use of existing facilities:– Utilize existing STA-2

inflow infrastructure

– Utilize existing STA-2 discharge infrastructure

– Modify existing structure G-337A

Page 12: WRAC Issues Workshop EAA/STA-2 Expansion Cell 4 April 11, 2005

EAA/STA-2 Cell 4 DESIGN FEATURES

• Utilize “Lessons Learned” from previous STA construction:– Degrade existing features – fish farm & PSTA

cells– Fill ditches running parallel to flow (north to south)– Degrade farm roads running perpendicular to flow

(east to west)– Perform preliminary site preparation work to

facilitate inundation of interior cell to promote vegetation growth during construction.

Page 13: WRAC Issues Workshop EAA/STA-2 Expansion Cell 4 April 11, 2005

• Canal corridor between Cells 3 and 4• 6 gated inflow control structures (66” RCP)

with telemetry and remote operation capabilities

• 1 outlet control structure will have telemetry and remote operation capabilities.
