Carmarthen Town retained theWord Cup Trophy against Bala Town 3-
1 on penalties with Craig Hanford scoring the winning penalty. Steven
Cann stole the show pulling off a hat-trick of penalty saves to secure the
cup for the second successive season..
It was a momentous occasion at Park Avenue and the first time Bala
had ever reached a final of the Word Cup in the club’s history. But it
was a frustrating first half with no real chances from either team -
watched by National Team Manager - Chris Coleman.
The second half, however, came to life with relentless pressure from
Bala and chances from Christian Doidge.
Neither team gained any advantage in extra-time and it was Craig
Hanford that won the day for Mark Aizlewood's men with the final
penalty following Cann's three crucial saves.
"Twenty years from now no one will care that it wasn't a particularly
good game," said Carmarthen Town manager Mark Aizlewood
following his side's dramatic 3-1 penalty shoot-out win against Bala
Town.
"We've won the Cup. That's what we came to do and we're going home
with it."
Looking at the penalties Aizlewood added: "We have, in Steven Cann, a
class goalkeeper. I was totally confident in his ability and it was shown
in three successive spot-kick saves."
"His first save, from Conall Murtagh, was the best of them all and gave
confidence to our players who were then to take kicks."
Aizlewood went on: "The game itself was not a great spectacle. Both
sets of players had a good level of fitness and my team showed a terrific
level of spirit amongst themselves and their application was
tremendous."
"Once we went into extra-time I felt that one mistake could decide the
game but that didn't prove to be the point."
"There are eleven other clubs in the league who would have loved to
have been in our position as League Cup winners. Some of them have
spent huge amounts of money to win absolutely nothing. We have now
won silverware in each of the last two seasons on a very basic budget."
Craig Hanford, who scored the winning penalty, was elated by his, and
the team's, success. "To be able to score with the last kick in a Cup
Final is something I shall always remember," he said. "I owe so much
to Aize and the coaching team and will always be grateful to them for
their faith in my ability."

The Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League
Manager of the Month for December is
Chris Hughes of Newtown AFC Newtown manager Chris Hughes has been named the
Welsh Premier League's manager of the month for
December. Hughes was formerly assistant manager at
Prestatyn Town before taking over from Bernard McNally
in late November.
Under Hughes’ guidance The Robins had excellent wins
against Carmarthen Town, Rhyl and The New Saints and
held then leaders Airbus UK Broughton to a draw as they
fought their way to a now confirmed top six finish.
The award is even more justified when we consider that
this is his first ever managerial role.
The Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League
Player of the Month for December is
Sam Hart of Airbus UK Broughton The Chester-born 22-year-old midfielder was not a regular
first team choice during the early part of the season, but has
risen to prominence during the Wingmakers' injury and
suspension crisis.
Hart has seized his chance, making some stand-out
performances and scoring against Afan Lido and Gap
Connah's Quay in the league and against Penybont in the
Welsh Cup during December.
Hart, who progressed through the youth ranks at Preston
North End, represented Wales at schoolboy level in the
Victory shield and at U17 and U19 levels in the European
championships. He joined the Wingmakers in the summer of
2012.

The Citizens’ talisman forward Les Davies has claimed yet another honour as his stunning strike in our Boxing

LES HITS GOAL OF THE MONTH - Our talisman forward Les Davies has claimed yet another honour as his

FANS BOOST EXPANSION PLANS - There was yet another boost to Bangor
City’s ground expansion plans last weekend.
During the half-time interval at our home match against The New Saints,
Bangor City FC Supporters’ Association Chairman Les Pegler presented Club
Chairman Dilwyn Jones with a cheque for £30,000 as a contribution to stadium
improvements.
Presenting the cheque, Les Pegler said, “The Supporters’ Association has
raised this fantastic amount in less than two years, during which fans have done
a sponsored walk from Bangor to Prestatyn, have cycled to Aberystwyth and
have climbed Snowdon.
“There were countless different activities and events that helped to raise this
significant sum and it has been a magnificent achievement to raise so much in
such a short space of time. This is due to the hard work of so many Bangor
City fans who are played a role in making this possible.”
Accepting the cheque, Bangor City FC Chairman Dilwyn Jones said. “Of course we are extremely grateful to the
Supporters’ Association for this very generous gesture.
“Our fans are not only our 12th man, backing our players on the field, but are also playing a huge part in making
The Book People Stadium at Nantporth one of the major venues in North Wales.
“Our supporters are what make Bangor City so special, and I thank them and the Supporters’ Association from
the bottom of my heart. Picture by Richard Birch- Dilwyn Jones on left, Les Pegler on right
CITY SIGN FORWARD COLBECK - Bangor City FC are pleased to announce the signing of 20 year old
forward Jay Colbeck from Wrexham on loan until the end of the season.
A graduate of the Racecourse Centre of Excellence, Colbeck signed his first contract with Wrexham in time for
the 2012-13 season and has since made several appearances for the first team scoring 4 times in the process, 2 of
which came on his 67th minute debut as a substitute against Kettering Town.
CARMARTHEN TOWN www.carmarthentownafc.org Injury hit Carmarthen Town will be without a number of regular players for Tuesday night's Welsh Premier
League match against The New Saints.
The fixture will take place at Port Talbot Town's GenQuip Stadium with a 19.30 kick off.
Manager Mark Aizlewood has been struggling to put a side together as work commitments and injuries have
deprived him of key individuals.
"Cortez Belle would have played after his suspension," said Aizlewood, "but his business arrangements mean he
will have to miss the game. Likewise Christian Doidge (also carrying an injury) who is in the police force and will
be on duty in Cardiff during the day, cannot guarantee being at the ground in time for the start."
"To add to this Liam McCreesh suffered a leg injury in the Prestatyn match and could not play in Saturday's Word
Cup final. During the final I had to substitute Liam Thomas and Kyle Bassett due to knocks they had picked up.
Added to this both Luke Bowen and Corey Thomas have niggles which may or may not allow them to play."
Aizlewood added: "Coach Neil Smothers looks like he will start the game along with others who have recently
been warming the substitutes bench. In desperation I did think of registering myself to play which, had I done so
and come off the bench, would have made me the oldest person to play in a Welsh Premier League fixture.""
gap CONNAH’S QUAY www.the-nomads.co.uk The Nomads can confirm that Shaun Tinsley has joined Buckley Town on loan until the end of the season.
Shaun becomes the third loanee to join Huws Gray Cymru Alliance sides after Simon Everall and Jamie Wynne
headed to Penycae on loan earlier this week.
Shaun has started three Welsh Premier games this season as well as making three appearances from the bench and
also played and scored against Prestatyn Town in The Nomads 2-1 victory in theWord Cup in September..
NEWTOWN AFC www.newtownafc.co.uk Newtown Media Officer Jonny Drury gives his own assessment of the first phase at Newtown
At the start of the season I made a bold prediction and said that Newtown would make the top six. Most people I
talked to found it quite comical after escaping relegation last season.
But from the performances I saw since I joined the club back in January, I could see that Newtown weren’t far
away from mixing it with the big teams. And after that prediction I am pleased to see that it has happened. I
doubted my judgement at times, but it came true in the end.
I think the root of the success began last season. The players that have been here since the start of the current era
like Shane Sutton, Craig Williams and Matt Cook played in last season’s side, which picked up some memorable
results.
Winning 5-2 at Prestatyn Town was as massive achievement, and results like beating TNS 1-0 on their home
patch was no mean feat. But throughout last season, and especially in the second phase there was a lack of
consistency and I think the players would say the same.
There were good results, but they would be in between some losses, and no momentum could be gained.
And I think in the summer Bernie McNally went about addressing this,
bringing in the likes of Tom Goodwin to add steel to the midfield, Jeff
White to hold the ball up, and Sean Evans to bring flair to the side.
And I think despite a stop start pre-season, and two defeats at the
beginning of the campaign the belief was still there, like it was the
previous season.
It kick started with a win at Rhyl and despite a couple of defeats it went
on from there and today the Robins sit pretty in third.
But I think that key word is belief. You could see that going into games
like Carmarthen away, The New Saints at home and Airbus at home that
everyone in the ground thought the Robins could win, which is a different
story to previous seasons.
It seems the players have developed that mentality that they can beat
anyone, and they are right to believe that. It’s no fluke to lose just three games in 17, especially in this league.
And through the work that both McNally and Chris Hughes have done, the Robins can look forward to the
prospect of Europe.
After qualifying for the play offs with a point on Sunday, Newtown could be forgiven for relaxing now, but I’m
sure Hughes won’t want that to happen.
Relegation candidates last season, and tipped for relegation this season. Now they have just confirmed their place
in the Europa League play-offs. Footballs a funny game..
PORT TALBOT TOWN www.porttalbottown.co.uk PORT Talbot Town are delighted to announce that Jarred Harvey will be joining Scott Young’s backroom team
from Cambrian & Clydach.
Jarred will start with the club from immediate effect, having already met with the first-team squad in training this
week and will be in the Blues’ dugout for Sunday’s match at Afan Lido, having met the players.
Director of football Scott Young has said he is looking forward to his welcoming Jarred to his team.
“Jarred is going to be a great addition to my coaching team. I’m delighted to have him and we’ve been talking
since the summer. I’d like to thank Cambrian & Clydach for all their support and I’m just looking forward to
welcoming him to my backroom team.”
Jarred Harvey led Cambrian to the upper reaches of the Welsh League in his
seven-year spell as manager, leading the club to the Division One title and
two runners-up spots.
“Cambrian have been a massive part of my life and gave me the opportunity
at the time. I’ve been able to help develop the club and its community
programme, which is now almost unrecognizable so although it was a very
hard decision, I’m leaving behind a good legacy,” he explained.
“Port Talbot have a great fan-base and good ambition and potential and I
just hope I can help match that.
“I’ve known Scott since a child and I’m really looking forward to working
with him.
“I know a lot of the players in the squad such as Ashley Evans, Steven Hall,
Lee John and Leigh De-Vulgt and the opportunity to work with likes of
Rhys Griffiths and Ryan Green is an excellent proposition and I can’t wait
to get stuck in, starting with Afan Lido on Sunday which is going to be a huge game for us.”
PRESTATYN TOWN www.ptfconline.co.uk As part of of our role as Community Ambassadors for Denbighshire Council, the club will take part in the Queens
Baton relay in the run up to the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
Our community Officer and First Team Player Jack Lewis will be flying the flag for Town and carrying the Baton.
We will post more details when we know times, dates and the route Jack will be asked to take.
Acting Chairman Leigh Williams said 'This is a fantastic honour for the club to be asked and shows how far the
club has come when you are being asked to help in such prestigious events such as the Queens Baton Relay, I am
sure Town fans will turn out to cheer Jack on'.
Next week the club and the council will be sitting down together and planning the events for the club as part of
our role as Community Ambassadors for the Council.
A leading centre for students with a learning disability has teamed up with the Town and could be heading to
Europe together.
Pengwern College in Rhuddlan have joined forces with Prestatyn Town to further the progress of the college's
pan-disability football team.
The students are set to follow the Seasiders heroic Cup exploits of last summer after being invited to a UEFA
tournament in Switzerland later this year.
'We at the college are very pleased to be working alongside Prestatyn Town FC' said principal Tina Ruane.
'For many years the college has been taking part in the PAN disability football festivals North to Mid-Wales, we
now welcome Prestatyn Town FC who will be running weekly training sessions for our learners and will
welcome new players from the local community' she added.
Football in the community officer Jack Lewis added 'this is great news for the club to partner up with Pengwern
College, we are now looking to recruit more players to our current squad, you must be 16 years and over to play
and training sessions will be held at Bastion Gardens, we will be holding friendly games every month at Colwyn

THE NEW SAINTS FC www.tnsfc.co.uk The New Saints last week unveiled the signing of Ryan Edwards.
The nineteen year old left gap Connah’s Quay last Monday and
was understandably delighted to be joining the Corbett Sports
Welsh Premier League Champions. The youngster said, ‘I am
over the moon. It is what I have been working so hard for. When
the offer came in, I couldn’t turn it down. I heard about the
potential move at the start of November when Mark McGregor
told me that TNS wanted me. He told me that it was probably the
best move for me so I am delighted that I am now here.’
The Glan Conwy born midfielder also added that he would like to
develop his game further at Park Hall stadium, ‘Hopefully TNS can help my development and help me become a
complete midfielder. I like to get up and down, and get on the ball. I am not really the kind of midfielder who
attacks the ball. I just want to develop as a midfielder as I am only 19. I haven’t scored as many goals as I would
have liked to this year but I will definitely be working on that side of my game. First of all I have to work hard to
get into the team and then hopefully show what I can do.’
The centre midfielder joined The Nomads in January 2012 and broke into the side at the start of the 2012/13
Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League season. Edwards will wear the number 17 shirt for The Saints.
Ryan Edwards trained with his new TNS teammates for the first time on Tuesday. Craig Harrison signed the
young midfielder from Gap Connah’s Quay after watching the 19year old impress at Deeside and the Director of
Football at The Saints said, ‘Ryan is a good footballer who will fit into the style we play. He can play in several
positions, including centre midfield, out wide, centre forward, just behind the front man and he is a very good
technical footballer. Having spoken to him he is very hungry and it is great to have him on board.’
Harrison added, ‘He has got a good pedigree and has a real desire to do well. I have also been very thoughtful
about the age, about the enthusiasm, about the attitude and the know-how of being a professional footballer. We
have signed a number of young players including Chris Jones, Kai Edwards, Ryan Fraughan and Sam Finley
during my time here and it is great to bring in another youngster.’
The former Premier League defender was also full of praise for both Scott Ruscoe and Steve Evans, who are both
working very hard at the TNS Academy, ‘We have got a lot of good young players at the club and that can be seen
at our Academy. Scotty Ruscoe and Steve Evans are both working really hard and it is fantastic to see all of the
promising players coming through. Ryan Kershaw has been doing magnificently well but with all the respect to
Gap Connah’s Quay, it is harder for ‘Kersh’ to break through into our team, like Ryan Edwards had done at
Deeside. With signings like Ryan Edwards and players like Ryan Kershaw coming through, the future has never
been brighter.’.

NEWS Wrexham boss Gregg Short resigns Short notified the club of his decision on the eve of Sunday’s Welsh Premier Women’s League match at
Caernarfon Town.
Wrexham chairman Steve Jones said: “Gregg resigned totally out of the blue on Saturday night. He told me he
wants to spend more time with his family. I asked him to reconsider, however his mind was made up. We thank
him for his work with us and wish him well in the future.”
Ronnie Green, who was assistant to Short, has now taken over the manager’s role. “We are very grateful to
Ronnie for stepping in at such short notice,” added Jones.
Short became Wrexham manager at the end of October following Dave Taylor’s decision to step down after the
team’s difficult start to the season. When Short took the helm the Reds were without a win since the start of the
campaign. His first game in charge was a difficult one, at home to champions Cardiff City, but Wrexham
produced a fine display in a 2-1 defeat. Wrexham gained their first victory of the season with a 2-1 Welsh Cup
win at Aberystwyth in November and have gone unbeaten in four league outings since, picking up 10 points from
twelve.
Their good run continued on Sunday under Green with a 4-2 win at Caernarfon, which lifted the Reds well clear
of the bottom places. Green’s home debut as boss will be a tough one next Sunday as Wrexham host Swansea
City, who thrashed them 6-0 in the League Cup in September.

THE LAST WORD from Gwyn Derfel
It is Monday morning and I am writing this with the feeling having just returned to my
fingers after enduring the cold weather at Aberystwyth on Saturday and Afan Lido
yesterday. Congratulations to Carmarthen of course for retaining the Word Cup and
commiserations to Bala Town for coming so close to capturing their first ever major
trophy.
I would like to thank everyone associated with Aberystwyth Town for hosting the final so
well – and special praise should be given to Phil and Brian for preparing the pitch to such
a high standard.
While the game wasn’t the greatest spectacle I’ve ever witnessed – it reached new heights
in the Wales on Sunday as it was reported as the WORLD Cup Final – so congratulations
to Mark Aizlewood and his team for achieving something that neither Cristiano Ronaldo
nor Lionel Messi have done as yet.
On a more serious note – you will all know by now that we’ve had to re-arrange the end
of the first phase of the season due to the number of postponements. I appreciate that all
parties aren’t happy with the final decision but all I can promise is that all possible factors
were considered before making the final call.
I wish the four teams who are fighting for the remaining top six places the very best of
luck and hope that the games that are scheduled to be played this week go ahead and
provide royal entertainment to the paying public.
Y GAIR OLAF gan Gwyn Derfel
Mae’n fore Llun ac mae’r teimlad wedi dychwelyd i fy mysedd mewn da bryd i daro gair
ar bapur wedi oerfel y penwythnos yn Aberystwyth ac Aberafan.
Rhaid llongyfarch Caerfyrddin wrth gwrs am ddal eu gafael ar Gwpan Word ond rhaid
cydymdeimlo gyda’r Bala am ddod mor agos at gipio eu prif dlws cyntaf yn eu hanes.
Hoffwn ddiolch i bawb o glwb Aberystwyth am eu gwaith paratoi a’u croeso – yn
enwedig felly Brian a Phil am baratoi maes chwarae campus o ystyried y tywydd
diweddar sydd wedi bod yn chwipio’r dref.
Eallai nad oedd y Rownd Derfynol ei hun yr ornest orau a welais erioed – ond fe
gyrhaeddodd yr entrychion yn y Wales on Sunday gan i’r gêm gael ei chofnodi fel
WORLD Cup Final. Llongyfarchiadau mawr i Mark Aizlewood a’i fechgyn am gyflawni
rhywbeth nad ydi Cristiano Ronaldo na Lionel Messi wedi llwyddo’i wneud hyd yma.
Ond i fod o ddifri bu’n rhaid i ni ad-drefnu rhai gemau er mwyn cwblhau cyfnod cyntaf y
tymor.’Rwy’n derbyn nad yw’r penderfyniad wrth fodd pob clwb ond ystyriwyd pob
opsiwn cyn bwrw ati gyda’r cynllun.
Yn naturiol ‘rwy’n dymuno pob lwc i’r pedwar clwb sydd yn dal i frwydro am le yn y
chwech uchaf. Gobeithio y bydd y gemau’r wythnos hon yn drech na’r tywydd a
gobeithio hefyd y caiff pob cefnogwr bleser o wylio’r gemau. .
