Summary of local findings
The changes in the energy mix should be included in the WPC
DNA
• Energy at large (biomass, biofuels, solar, wind, geo thermal…) should be considered due to climate change and energy transition but special focus on petroleum industry and existing challenges
• However, these evolutions should not mask the other societal and technological transformations of our industry (oil supply and demand, geopolitics, innovation, digitalization, cyber security, talent development)
• Peculiar attention to avoid diluting the unique positioning of the WPC (in particular vs. existing organization such as the WEC)
The vision and mission statement
could be amended to reflect the underlying
changes
• Alternative sources of energy are already considered in the vision and mission statements of the WPC
• The Congress and workshops already have special sessions on the related topics.
• However, strategic sessions on the consumer end-game may help fostering the debates
The students and young professionals contribution should
be formalized
• In the context of radical disruptions affecting the value chain, our generation could effectively contribute to build on how this could affect our industry
• YP could be part of the vision and mission statements review as owner of the future
• Clear roles and responsibilities, election guidelines and initiatives professionalization could help achieving these goals.

We would like to seek EC guidance on three main topics
Committee footprint
• 36 representatives from 27 countries, mainly in Europe, Middle East and Americas
• Several countries not represented anymore(e.g. India, Qatar, UAE)
• Lack of representation in Africa and other major oil and gas regions (e.g. Angola, Nigeria, Indonesia)
• Approve the prioritized countries for the recruitment of the new representatives
• Mandate the Secretariat in reaching out to NCs to understand the reasons for not having a representative
• Question: what can we provide to the EC and Secretariat to support new representatives recruitment?
Survey
• Survey on students and young professionals valuable for O&G companies, including CEOs, Ministers, HR Manager
• Lack of qualitative outcomes and thought-through insights in previous editions with low exploitation of the potential
• Collaborate with a professional service company in delivering two surveys during the next cycle
- Interest from the BCG to replicate the Gender Equality model as a pro bono project.
- Other PS firms could also be reached (Bain & Company, McKinsey) as they work on new HR organization, attraction and retention strategy.
• Question: how do we formalize the relationship with the PS firm?
Mentoring
• Success of the previous mentoring cycle, opportunities for improvements
• Ongoing definition of the structure for the next cycle
• New initiative leadership to be found after the departure of Varsha More
• Increase program quality by reducing the pool of mentors and mentees
- 2 cycles of 15 months from March 2018 to FLF and from September 2019 to WPC
- Not more than 5-10 mentors with 3 mentees per group for better coordination and improved experience for mentors and mentees
- 1 month selection process based on CV and cover letter
• Collaborate with Secretariat to reach out Mentors and Mentees (draft letter and database to be provided) by January 2018
• Innovate by launching quarterly virtual mentoring session opened to all
• Question: do you have recommendations of potential mentors to consult?
