GATHERING TO WORSHIP GOD
PRELUDE "O Sons and Daughters, Let Us Sing" Tisserand
WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
CALL TO WORSHIP (based on Psalm 16)
Leader: Protect me, O God, for in you I take refuge.
"You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you."
People: The LORD is our chosen portion; you hold our lives in your hand.
The boundary lines have fallen for us in pleasant places; we have
your heritage.
Leader: I bless the LORD who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart
instructs me. I keep the LORD always before me; because he is at my
right hand, I shall not be moved.
People: Our hearts are glad, our souls rejoice; we rest secure in you.
Leader: For you do not give me up to Sheol, or let your faithful ones see the
Pit.
People: You show us the path of life. In your presence there is fullness of
joy; in your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Leader: Christ is Risen!
People: He is Risen Indeed!

CALL TO CONFESSION
Creator of the universe, you made the world in beauty, and restored all things
in glory through the victory of Jesus Christ. We pray that, wherever your
image is still disfigured by poverty, sickness, selfishness, war, and greed, the
new creation in Jesus Christ may appear in justice, love, and peace - to the
glory of your name.
CHORAL PRAYER OF CONFESSION
HYMN No. 431 "Forgive Us, Lord" CONFESION
SILENT PRAYERS OF CONFESSION
ASSURANCE OF PARDON You give beauty for ashes, strength for fear, sorrow for mourning, and strength for
despair. We thank you God for the amazing grace shown in the revelation of Jesus
Christ and the comforting presence indwelling us by your Spirit.
Friends, believe the good news of the Gospel.
In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.
THE PASSING OF PEACE
Leader: Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts. To this peace we are called as
members of a single body.
The peace of Christ be with you.
And also with you.

BLESSING FOR THE CHILDREN
CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE
The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine upon you, and give
you peace, and give you peace, and give you peace forever.
LISTENING FOR GOD’S WORD
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
OLD TESTAMENT LECTIONARY READING: Isaiah 25:4-8 (NIV)
(Sung and Spoken in Unison)
You have been a refuge for the poor,
a refuge for the needy in their distress,
a shelter from the storm
and a shade from the heat.
For the breath of the ruthless
is like a storm driving against a wall
and like the heat of the desert.
You silence the uproar of foreigners;
as heat is reduced by the shadow of a cloud,
so the song of the ruthless is stilled.
On this mountain the Lord Almighty will prepare
a feast of rich food for all peoples,
a banquet of aged wine—
the best of meats and the finest of wines.
On this mountain he will destroy
the shroud that enfolds all peoples,
the sheet that covers all nations;
he will swallow up death forever.
The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears
from all faces;
he will remove his people’s disgrace
from all the earth.
The Lord has spoken.
This is the Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
NEW TESTAMENT LECTIONARY READING: Matthew 28:1-10 (NIV)
After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and
the other Mary went to look at the tomb.
There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from
heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance
was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of
him that they shook and became like dead men.
The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are
looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.
Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He
has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see
him.’ Now I have told you.”
So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and
ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came
to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be
afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”
John 20:15-16, 20 (NIV)
He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?”
Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me
where you have put him, and I will get him.” Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned
toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”). Mary
Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!”
This is the Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, O Christ.
