After four very long years of fighting the Allies won, but it was very close at times
World War One was a “total war” All the men who could were called up
to fight Many women worked in factories to
replace the men and made guns and ammunition
Effects of the War 10 million men died in the fighting
• That’s 5509 men every day
•Over $180,000,000 dollars was lost•Even the winners were almost bankrupt
•The Austrian and Turkish Empires were broken up•The defeated countries were ruined
Really no one won the First World War – everyone lost.
What did the war change?
People saw Germany as bad and dangerous
The balance of power was changed
Most countries had spent all their money – they were almost bankrupt
But most of all people wanted peace – everyone was sick of war and death
