Dear Colleagues and Friends,

After another year, I am delighted to announce that the WEM 2017 is being held on 20th – 21st October 2017.

This year, as a result of a number of requests, not only will we be demonstrating a facial-rejuvenation procedure using re-absorbable sutures with cones, but also presenting other products that perfectly complement sutures in facial rejuvenation, such as collagen inductor and hyaluronic acid products.

This is why we are dividing the WEM into 4 sections of equal significance, to enable us to dedicate the time necessary to give clear explanations on the key functions of the products as well as how physicians have found that they can be combined.

There will also be several session-leaders, who are specialists in each area, as well as a variety of speakers from around the world, with whom we will work with as we always do on our courses, in an active way, with all those present participating via interactive systems.

I look forward to welcoming you, as I do each year, not only for the opportunity of acquiring new knowledge to enrich our range of professional treatments, but also to enjoy Barcelona’s renowned cuisine and beautiful autumn climate.

DR JAVIER DE BENITO PLASTIC SURGEON, SPAINDr Javier de Benito graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Barcelona.

Since 1980 he has been director of an Instituto bearing his namesake. Dr Javier de Benito is a national and international authority reference in Aesthetic surgery. He has been vice-president of the International Society of Aesthetic Surgery (ISAPS) and member of American and Spanish Societies. A worldwide reference in mini and non-invasive rejuvenation, with headquarters currently in Barcelona, Madrid, and Moscow.

Dr Javier de Benito is an expert in frontal endoscopic surgery and the neck surgery with lateral techniques. 

In 2006, Dr Javier Benito was considered amongst the ten best surgeons in the world by the european press.

Author of numerous papers and two books, he has been invited to participate all over the world at numerous conferences, courses and workshops, as an expert in the current concepts of non-invasive facial rejuvenation.

DR ALIEKSIÉI CORREA CARRIJOPLASTIC SURGEON, BRAZILDr Carrijo is a graduate of Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU) Medical School. He trained at University of Alfenas School of Medicine where he completed 2 years of general surgery residency.

Dr Carrijo continued further training at Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Santos Hospital where after 3 more years he completed his plastic surgery residency and also a fellowship in plastic surgery with Dr Ivo Pitanguy at Santa Casa de Misericórdia do Rio de Janeiro Hospital

He is the founder of Plastica BR in São Paulo and the section head of Plastic Surgery and Burns at Sepaco Hospital in São Paulo.

He is also a certified Forensic Doctor by Universidade de São Paulo Medical School;

Dr Carrijo has been a certified member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery since 2008. He has trained numerous physicians in the Silhouette Soft technique for face and body.

MARIE-ODILE CHRISTENBIOLOGIST & IMMUNOLOGIST, FRANCEMarie-Odile Christen is a French scientist with a background in biochemistry acquired first at the Sciences University of Paris. She joined the Centre d’Energie Atomique (CEA) of Fontenay-aux-Roses, where she conducted research on the biological effects of radiation.

She specialized in Immunology and worked as researcher at the National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) Immunopathology Laboratory at St Antoine Hospital in Paris (Pr GA Voisin) on autoimmune diseases.

MO Christen pursued fundamental research as a researcher at the Pasteur Institute of Paris on serotonin receptors, pain and infection mechanisms, before focusing on applied research. She worked in immunology, gastroenterology and neurosciences, and in the burns field with wide international experience. She then pursued research in dermatology and in aesthetic medicine focusing among others on the role of collagen and its stimulation in the frame of the extracellular matrix. She is also involved in the field of lipoatrophy in HIV.

MO Christen is the author of about 200 publications and communications and the co-author of several books. She is a member of several scientific societies such as the SFETB, the EBA and the Extracellular Matrix Biology Society. She has given many lectures at international congresses worldwide such as in the USA, Canada, China, Russia, Hungary and nearly all the countries of Latin America, and has organized several symposiums. She is the inventor and author of more than 15 patents.

DR GORDON COHENAESTHETIC DOCTOR, SOUTH AFRICADr Gordon Cohen is a graduate of The University of the Witwatersrand Medical School. He underwent training in Non-Surgical Aesthetics while living and working in the United States. In 2007 Dr Cohen joined The Melrose Aesthetic Centre in Johannesburg as Chief Aesthetic Medical Practitioner.

His education includes MBBCh and MBA degrees and additionally he also holds a CCN (Certified Clinical Nutritionist) qualification. He regularly attends training courses and Aesthetic Conferences around the world. He is a member of the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine and The Aesthetic and Anti-Aging Medicine Society of South Africa (AAAMSA). Dr Cohen is a regular guest speaker on local television, radio and interviews for a variety of publications.

Dr Cohen’s areas of expertise include skin rejuvenation and anti-ageing procedures, treatment of acne and acne scarring, Body sculpting and Liposuction as well as Health and Wellness programs. He is also active in the field of Regenerative Medicine using Adipose Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells.

DR SOPHIE CONVERSETFACIAL PLASTIC SURGEON, FRANCEDr Converset graduated from the University of Nice with a degree in Facial Surgery. She was a former House Officer in Nice hospitals and also former Head of Clinic. She is a qualified surgery specialist of the Face and Neck. Dr. Convercet is a member of the Societe Francais de Chirurgie Esthetique et Reparatrice de la Face et du Cou(SFCERFC) and also the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery. She is Court Expert, and in addition to surgical and medical aesthetic activities of the face, she is a consultant to the industry as a teacher of aesthetic, surgical, and medical procedures on fresh cadavers.

DR ADILSON DA COSTADERMATOLOGIST, BRASILDr Adilson da Costa is a Brazilian dermatologist that lives in Atlanta, GA, USA. He got his MD from Santa Casa of Sao Paulo School of Medicine, where he also specialized in Dermatology. Dr da Costa obtained a MSc in Dermatology from Federal University of Sao Paulo, PhD from the University of Sao Paulo School of Medicine, both in the city of Sao Paulo, SP, Brazil, and he did his Research Fellowship in Dermatology at Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, GA, USA. Nowadays, Dr da Costa is a Tenured Professor at the PhD and MSc Programs at the State of Sao Paulo Workers› Welfare Institute, Sao Paulo, SP, Brazil. Dr da Costa is a very experienced researcher in Dermatology and has served as a Principal Investigator in more than 150 projects, either clinical or in vitro. Most of these projects are in the cosmetic dermatology field, which helped him to take place as an advisory board member for important companies, such as Galderma, Sinclair, Avon, L’Oréal,Hypermarcas, and Natura; moreover, his research skills have helped him to be a common scientific source for the beauty media, and an frequent speaker at international scientific meetings. Dr da. Costa has already two books published – Dermatology in Pregnancy (Guanabara Koogan) and International Textbook of Cosmeceuticals (Elsevier) – and is now working on an international masterpiece on cosmetic procedures. Dr da Costa has more than 60 manuscripts and chapter of books already published. Specifically about Perfectha products, Dr da Costa led two research projects, one about rheological aspects and other about in vivo skin durability, the last one was recently published in the prestigious Aesthetic Surgery Journal.

DR FRANCISCO DE MELOPLASTIC SURGEON, UAEDr de Melo is an expert in different aesthetic and reconstructive procedures for face, breast, body contouring, oncology, trauma and hand surgery.

Before joining Aesthetica Clinic, Dr de Melo was a Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Head of the Surgery Department in the Military Hospital, Lisbon, Portugal. Dr de Melo worked as a teaching assistant in the Biochemistry and Human Genetics Departments at FCML. He also handled Micro Surgery workshops at the Plastic and Reconstructive Unit at the Hospital of S. Jose in Lisbon. He is consultant and lecturer for the manufacturers of different dermal fillers such as Restylane, Macrolane, and Ellanse as well for Allergan, the manufacturer of breast implants and Botox. Faculty member of A4M (Aesthetic Fellowship) and an invited key speaker to international scientific meetings.

He is a member of several medical organization such as the Medical Science Society of Lisbon, the International Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, Portuguese Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Society, the Portuguese Society for Hand Surgery, the International Society for Burn Injuries, Emirates Medical Society and Emirates Plastic Surgery Society.

DR NESTOR DEMOSTHENOUSAESTHETIC DOCTOR, UKDr Nestor MBChB, BSc Hons Neuro, Associate Member of the British College of Aesthetic Medicine, Member of Association of Scottish Aesthetic Practitioners, Advisory Member of HealthCare Improvement Scotland.

One of Scotland’s more experienced Aesthetic Doctors, international speaker and author in Aesthetic Medicine. Dr Nestor holds regular fortnightly clinics at London’s multi-award winning PHI Clinic. He is one of the UK’s most experienced Silhouette Soft users and a UK trainer for Silhouette Soft Thread Lift. He specialises in treating patients with facial palsies using non surgical treatment options.

Dr Nestor obtained his Medical Degree and Honours Degree in Neuroscience from the University of Edinburgh in 2006. Upon completing his junior doctor years he pursued a surgical career, gaining experience from several surgical specialties predominantly Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery and Plastic Surgery. Alongside this he entered Aesthetic Medicine, which became his passion and ambition. YOHAN PAYANTIMC-IMAG LABORATORY, FRANCEWith an engineering and cognitive science background, Yohan Payan was hired in 1997 as a Professor at Grenoble University. He moved to CNRS in 2002 and has now a senior research director position in that French institution. His main research interests concern the biomechanical modeling of soft tissues and their integration into medical devices used to assist surgeons for planning (pre-operative surgical assistance) or to guide them during surgery (intra-operative guidance). Yohan Payan also coordinates the Excellent Center for Computer Assisted Medical Interventions.

DR ROBERTO PIZZAMIGLIOPLASTIC SURGEON, SPAINDr Pizzamiglio graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Pavia in 1986. He completed his specialization in General Surgery at the same university in 1994.

DR ROSALBA RUSSOSURGEON, ITALYDr Rosalba Russo graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Bologna.

DR IAN STRAWFORDAESTHETIC DOCTOR, UKDr Strawford is an experienced GP and aesthetic physician and a full member of The British College of Aesthetic Medicine. He qualified from Birmingham Medical School in 1985 and trained initially in surgery before switching to general practice with a specialist interest in dermatology and surgery.

He is still a part-time GP and undertakes regular surgical work in his NHS practice in Somerset, and is a member of the Association of Primary Care Surgeons in the UK. DR DAVID TOPCHIANCOSMETIC SURGEON, AUSTRALIABased in Melbourne, Australia, Dr David Topchian performs a wide range of treatments - from non-surgical to surgical.
