Somalia Petroleum Geology
• Somalia is a virtually unexplored territory − only 60 wildcats in 580,000 km² of
sedimentary basins− 11 oil and gas discoveries giving a
wildcat success rate that is comparable with the best oil provinces in the world
• Mature oil-prone source-rocks combined with multiple reservoir rocks and structures occur in a variety of geological settings.
• Geologically similar and once contiguous with the prolific Yemeni basins prior to rifting in the Gulf of Aden

•The Yemeni basins are known to contain nine billion BOE reserves with current production of over 400,000 barrels of oil per day.
• Most production has been from Cretaceous Qishn and Jurassic Alifsandstone reservoirs sourced by MadbiShales
• In terms of Yemen exploration success, between 1994 and 2006 there was an average discovery size of 96 MMBOE recoverable reserves with a discovery success rate of 23%.

Conclusions
There are several large - in some cases, very large undrilled structural closures in the Nogal Block. These structures are big enough to contain giant oilfields.
Nogal-1 and Kalis-1 were well located exploration boreholes. Neither well penetrated Jurassic sediments but both encountered oil in the Cretaceous secondary objective. The wells were logged but not tested due to Conoco’s hasty withdrawal from the country in 1991.
Acquisition of a regional 2D seismic survey is required to evaluate the prospectivity of the Darin Block
