When writing a long research paper, you will likely cite numerous books, articles, and websites. A citation is a reference to an information source, and is inserted in a document in an abbrevi- ated manner. A source is the information needed to locate the original material referenced in a citation, and is collected at the end of a chapter or document in a bibliography. To complete this document, you will need the following file: w02_Citations You will save your document as: w02_Citations_Your_Name 1. Start Word. Locate and open the file w02_Citations. Save the file in your Word Chapter 2 folder as w02_Citations_Your_Name. 2. In the paragraph that begins Front Desk Attendants transfer, click to position the insertion point to the right of the second quotation mark, but before the space. Click the References tab. In the Citations & Bibliography group, click the Style button arrow, and then click MLA. 5. At the bottom of the Create Source dialog box, click OK. Notice that a citation field withjust the author’s last name is added at the insertion point location.

MLA style requires that the page number be added to citations.

6. Click the Citation field, click the arrow, and then click Edit Citation. In the displayed EditCitation dialog box, under Add, in the Pages box, type 48 and then click OK. Notice thatthe page number is added without a comma, which is MLA style. Compare your screenwith Figure 2.

In theCitations & Bibliography group, click the Insert Citation button, and then click Add NewSource. 12. Press C + e to move to the end of the document, and then press C + J to create anew page. If you have a bullet at the top of the new page, press B two times. TypeWorks Cited and then press J.

Works Cited is the MLA heading for a bibliography.

13. On the References tab, in the Citations & Bibliography group, click the Bibliography but-ton, and then click Insert Bibliography.

14. Select all of the items in the bibliography. Click the Home tab, and then in the Paragraphgroup, click the Dialog Box Launcher button . Under Indentation, click the Specialarrow, and then click Hanging.

In a hanging indent, the first line of a paragraph extends to the left of the rest of theparagraph.
