The Northern Territory Curriculum Framework (NTCF) which previously guided our English and Mathematics programs described outcomes over an 18 month period. Many of the outcomes were progressed and developed over several bands. This resulted in overlaps and therefore students in a class were assessed at various band levels. The Australian Curriculum standards describe what students are expected to be able to do for a particular year level. The students’ reports, A B C D or E described what the students achieved within their year level, therefore the difference between the Australian Curriculum and the Northern Territory Curriculum Framework grades cannot be compared. Further, Woodroffe cannot compare our previous data with the new Australian Curriculum data to track student learning and school improvement. These graphs will be our baseline data for the Australian Curriculum so we can track future whole school learning improvement. I am pleased with our AC data, which reflects the hard work of both staff and students. There is an expected distribution in Reading, Writing and Number. Mid- way through the year we already have a good number of students who have achieved an A or B standard. Woodroffe staff and students are working extremely hard to move grades to a higher level and for the students who have already achieved an A, to use their knowledge in many different contexts. Teachers this week used a traffic light system to identify students at risk (red), students who are nearly there (amber), students who are achieving (green) and students who require extension. Dear Families

As you are aware, last Semester Woodroffe implemented the Australian Curriculum (AC) in English and Mathematics.

The students’ reports, A B C D or E

described what the students achieved within their year level, therefore the difference between the Australian Curriculum and the Northern Territory Curriculum Framework grades cannot be compared.

There

is an expected distribution in Reading, Writing and Number. Mid-way through the year we already have a good number of students who have achieved an A or B standard.

This is to provide extra support for student learning as

as well as to help differentiate the teaching instructions to challenge students at their level but within the required standard of the year level.

This semester we are adapting the C2C units to guide our teaching of the AC. I will explain this in next week’s newsletter.

A quick update, we are currently interviewing for a grounds-person to replace Mr Green who did a fantastic job but has now moved interstate.

This week at assembly we handed out attendance certificates. I repeatedly mention the importance of “every child, every day”. In this light I think it is worthwhile to give credit to those students who do come every day. This does not mean that I don’t value the children who only miss school when they are genuinely sick.

The “Woodroffe Way” Competition is now at the final stages of School Council endorsement of the winning slogan. At this stage it is planned to announce the winner at Monday’s assembly in week 4. There were some fantastic entries.

If you have any queries please don't hesitate to contact me. Sharon Reeves (PRINCIPAL)

THANK YOU

We now have a terrific blue frame to hold our new ukuleles courtesy of Mr Barry Kilgour, dad of Sam in Year 5/6. We would like to sincerely thank Mr Kilgour for his time and generosity in donating the materials and constructing the frame. This makes the use of our class set of instruments much easier for everyone. Yours in Music Suzie Jackson
