Achieving Success in a Caring Environment

Stage 1 At Symbio Wildlife Park On Friday the 2nd of June 2017, stage one went to Symbio Wildlife Park by bus. We walked into Symbio Wildlife Park and straight away we saw the fuzzy red pandas. We saw the tigers next. There were two tigers, one was on a wooden roof and the other was having a rest in the grass. After we saw those first two animals it was already recess. We all ate our recess and were ready to see more animals. Next we saw the cheetahs. They were lying in the grass looking at everyone looking at them. One was at the back of the cage and one was at the very front. After that we saw the kangaroos but the fun part about them was that we got to feed them by hand. Near the kangaroo walk through was one sleepy wombat. We were now rushing to get to the ranger talk At the ranger talk we saw a snake, a golden brush tail possum, a turtle, a leaf insect and a blue tongue lizard. We got to pat most animals at the talk. We now had lunch. We had the rest of our food and were again ready to explore more animals. We all loved all the other animals we saw at the end of our excursion. We walked past the tigers again. In the cage of the tigers some rangers were feeding the tigers, it was very cool because only 2J got to see that. We also saw three emus lying down in the soft grass. After we saw the emu we saw the tawny frog mouth, eagle and the koalas sleeping in the fork of the tree. A few minutes after that, we saw the meerkats running around in the sand. The monkeys were jumping around and the crocodiles were swimming in the clear water. Soon it was time to go back to school. Once we got to school it wasn’t home time yet so we got to play on the oval.We all had a great time at Symbio Wildlife Park on Friday with all of stage one. By Isabel and Jeremy 2J

On Friday 2nd of June we went to Symbio Wildlife Park with stage one on a beautiful bus with seat belts! First we saw red pandas, then we had recess. Tairi really liked the Sumatran tigers but Jackson really liked the cheetahs. We fed the kangaroos grass, hay and we saw the wombat sleeping- how CUTE!! Then we were puffed out. Next we listened to a ranger talk. They showed as a bluetongue lizard, insects, an albino kookaburra, and a brown snake. THEN LUNCH WOHOOOOOOO! We walked to an eagle. Then cassowaries but they weren’t there but the emus were walking around. The koala was sleeping but one was eating eucalyptus leaves. There was a statue of a tazzy tiger waaaaaaa! Reptiles- mate they were a bit scary but they were cool at the same time. Next to that were the mini beasts. They were kind of like the reptiles but with spiders and scorpions. I kind of wanted to see some amphibians. We were done here so we drove back to school and ran on the oval. Here are a few endangered animals: red pandas and if you did not know the tazzy tigers are all dead. By Jackson and Tairi 2J

On Friday the 2nd of June 2017 Stage 1 and 2 went to Symbio Wildlife Park. We went by bus and there were seat belts and a toilet. First we saw peacocks and the red pandas. We had recess and a toilet break and then we saw the cheetah. Next we saw the tigers looking for food. At the lunch area we had a look at the reptiles. At the ranger talk we saw a Queensland cockroach, a leaf insect, brushed tailed possum and more. We even got to feed the kangaroos and the wallabies. After we saw the kangaroos and wallabies we saw three emus lying in the grass. Then we saw the farm animals in the barn, there were lots of cool animals there to see. We even saw the tigers. One tiger saw the meat on the bed and the other tiger saw the meat on the green grass. We also saw the dingoes. They were howling very loudly. They were all blonde and they did have a bit of white on them. There were 3 of them and they were big and strong, even healthy enough to catch prey. It was amazing to all of us. We also saw the kookaburra. It was so cool. We also saw the goats and we also saw ducks, ring tailed lemurs and we saw koalas asleep. They were so cute. By Logan and Briella 2J

Woodland Road Public School – Stage 1 Dance Group

“Woodies Safari” On Wednesday 14th June, the Girls Stage One Dance Group performed at the Ultimo Dance Festival at the Seymour Centre in Chippendale. This was a very exciting and tiring day for the girls as it was a full day event. The girls did a wonderful job representing the school throughout the day and during the performance. The ‘Woodies Safari’ performance was hugely successful and we received the loudest cheer!

As a school community we should be extremely proud of this achievement of our young dancers. We look forward to showcasing the performance again during Education Week.

Multicultural Public Speaking Competition On Tuesday 20 June 2017, 4 students from our school travelled to Thomas Acres Public School to participate in the Multicultural Public Speaking Competition. Teagan Martin and Stacey Ellis spoke in the Stage 2 competition. They both did a brilliant job speaking with clarity and good volume. The impromptu topic 'Rainbow' was very fitting as we have rainbows throughout our school and both girls spoke about how rainbows make them smile and feel happy. Heather Corby and Danielle Tyrokomos spoke in the Stage 3 competition. The competition was very tough as everyone spoke with great confidence and engaged their audience. The impromptu topic 'Building Walls' was a bit challenging and provided the girls an opportunity to tell of varying experiences. Danielle Tyrokomos received a highly commended award in her competition and she should be very proud of herself. Congratulations to the 4 students for trying their very best in the competition. I was very proud of each and everyone of you. Miss Duggan

Achieving Success in a Caring Environment

Dear Parents and Caregivers

It is hard to believe that we are almost halfway through the year! Congratulations to Cameron Nonenmacher for winning the Young Achiever in Sport Award at the Youth Excellence Award night on Monday. This acknowledgement was a well-deserved award to a lovely, talented young man. Congratulations are also in order for our delightful Stage 1 dancers who thrilled the audience at the Ultimo Dance Festival. The standard was very high but our girls shone as they danced with pure joy; their performance was outstanding! Students Reports and Parent/Teacher Night You should have received your child’s school report for Semester One today with this newsletter. This report will cover the work completed since the beginning of the school year. Inside the sealed envelope, you will find your child’s school report, an invitation to attend parent/teacher night and a parent feedback sheet offering suggested activities to help your child. Parent/teacher day is on Tuesday June 27. This is not only an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher but an opportunity to discuss your child’s academic progress. As requested by parents the interview time is 15 minutes. In order to accommodate the longer interviews, interviews will be available from 1pm to 6pm. It is important to remember that if at any times you have concerns, interviews can be made throughout the year you do not have to wait for a formal interview night.
