40sYearsThe MiddleIn the middle years, the pace really picks up! Now, in addition to caring for her family, she’s likely thinking about her parents and their health. There’s a lot to know, and King’s Daughters is here to help.

Heart Disease: A Silent RiskWhile many women think they are “protected” from heart disease, the truth is that it’s is the No. 1 killer of both women and men. During our middle years, estrogen does play a protective role … but that won’t last forever. The time to make sure you’re taking good care of your heart is now! Be your own advocate and talk to your primary care physician about your heart health. If you have a heart murmur or irregular heart beat, make sure it’s monitored regularly. Ask your doctor about a cardiology consult.

King’s Daughters network of heart specialists – The Kentucky Heart Institute – has offices conveniently located throughout the Tri-State (in more than 20 locations) to make it easy to get the great heart care you need.

Cancer: The Power to Prevent, Detect and Defeat Early detection is the best prevention against breast cancer. Continue your breast self-exams … but talk to your doctor about mammograms. For most women, the time to start is 38.

King’s Daughters offers mammography at the Breast Health Center, located inside the Center for Advanced Imaging in Ashland. Our mammography units are digital, which results in lower radiation exposure. For women with a posi-tive mammogram, our Breast Health Nurse Navigator will connect you to the services and physicians you need to ensure rapid diagnosis and treatment.

Our Women’s Boutique offers an array of merchandise and services to sup-port women fighting breast cancer, including specialty bras, breast forms and a certified mastectomy fitter. The boutique also offers wigs, along with the services of a specially trained personnel who can help you look your best.

King’s Daughters provides mammography services on our Mobile Mam-mography Unit, which travels throughout Ohio and Kentucky monthly. Visit kdmc.com to find out when the unit will be in your community. A physician order is required.

Lung Cancer: You Can Stop It! Smoking is the No. 1 preventable cause of lung cancer. If you’re a smoker, you owe it to yourself to stop. 60sYou know what they say – 65 is the new 50! Today’s mature women are more vibrant, alive and active than ever before! Maintain that vitality by staying on top of your health.

Heart Disease Women’s risk of heart disease and heart attack rises with menopause. So it’s important to understand your heart attack signs and symptoms are often different than those experienced by men. They include:

• Shortness of breath • Indigestion

• Unusual fatigue or weakness • Upper body discomfort

• Anxiousness, dizziness or • Chest pain sleep disturbances

Don’t ignore these signs, call 911. It’s better to get checked and find nothing than to ignore the signs and have a major cardiac incident.

Your Bladder Has A SecretIt’s not uncommon for women to experience an overactive bladder or problems controlling urine flow. King’s Daughters gynecologists and urologists can assist with testing, bladder training, rehabilitation services, medication and, depending on your particular circumstance, surgery. Talk to your family doctor to find out more.

Them Bones, Them Bones Gonna Walk AroundA lifetime of kneeling, running, lifting, bending, picking up children and all the other things women do, can take a toll on our bones, joints and backs.

Vital, Mature and Full ofLife
