The Golden Eagles outscored the Badgers 34-12 in the second quarter, shooting 75 percent (12-of-16) in the period. Wisconsin women’s basketball has a two-headed mon- ster in their lineup, wreaking havoc to opposing teams in the hoop and boards. UW junior forward Marsha Howard had her second straight double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 11 rebounds over the Explorers. Howard had a monster night the previous game against Pitt with a team high 15 points and a whopping 15 rebounds. Aided by Senior team- mate, Cayla McMorris, who had a double-double in the La Salle victory. Against Pitt, McMorris grabbed nine rebounds and scored 12 points. � For the fifth time this season, three-or-more Badgers were in double digits in a game. Two players were just two points shy of entering double digits against La Salle.

� The 11-point win against La Salle was Wisconsin’s second game this season outscoring an opponent by double digits and the first since the season opener against Charlotte where the Badgers defeated the 49ers by a 14-point margin.

A WIN FOR THE BADGERS, A WIN FOR THE BIG TEN

� The Wisconsin women’s basketball team overcame adversity in the fourth quarter, defeating Pittsburgh 58-57 in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge at Petersen Events Center Wednesday night. The Badgers (4-3 overall) held off a Pitt (5-2) rally in the final quarter to earn their second-straight win.

� UW improved to 6-5 in Big Ten/ACC Challenge games. As the only two Big Ten winners of the challenge on Wednesday night, both Wisconsin and Maryland each won their respective games by just one point. UMD won 60-59 over Virginia.

LAST FOUR � In its last four games, the Badgers have outrebounded opponents 158-125 and being narrowly outscored by oppo-nents, 276-267. In the Badgers’ three-game winning streak before the loss to Marquette, they averaged 67.3 points per game and a +4.7 scoring margin.

� Niya Beverley assisted in an estimated 28.3 percent of the team’s field goals in the last four contests.

NICE, NIYA! � Freshman Niya Beverley scored a career-high 14 points against the Golden Eagles, leading the Badgers in scoring for the first time in her career.

� She also had a team-high five assists in the game, marking the seventh time she led the team in dishes this season.

La Salle just two days after record-ing 12 points and nine rebounds against Pittsburgh. The Brooklyn Park, Minnesota native has scored in the dou-ble-digits in seven of Wisconsin’s eight games this season, including two 20-plus point contests.

� She has led the team in scoring in three games this season and 20 in her career.

� The guard has also improved her rebounding, ranking second on the team with 7.1 boards per game. That is an improvement of 3.2 rebounds per game from her junior year average.

� McMorris ranks 14th in the Big Ten in scoring with 14.0 points per game.

� She passed the 100-assist mark in her career on Monday at Marquette.

MARSHA, MARSHA, MARSHA � Junior Marsha Howard had a career game against Vanderbilt, scoring a career-high 24 points while adding a career-best five assists. The 5-10 for-ward also tied her career bests of nine rebounds and two steals.

� Just one game later, Howard notched the first double-double of her career at Pittsburgh with 14 points and 15 rebounds. And in the next game, she recorded the second double-double of her career against La Salle with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

� Howard ranks second on the Badger team with 11.9 points per game, while averaging a team-best 8.2 rebounds per game, which ranks 12th in the Big Ten.

� Howard continues her strong shooting from the field, ranking second on the team at 46.3 percent (38-82). As a soph-omore, she led the team at 52.4 percent.

� Her eight points at Marquette snapped three-game streak in which she scored in double figures.

ROLLIN’ THE MARBLES � Junior Roichelle Marble had a huge game against Pittsburgh one week ago. She recorded season highs in points (5), field goals (2), field goal percentage (1.000 - 2-2), 3-pointers (1), rebounds (3) and an assist.

� Just two games later, she notched a sea-son-high six points in 20 minutes played at Marquette.

� Marble has led the Badgers in steals in two games and nine times in her career.

NOT SHABBY FOR ABBY � Sophomore Abby Laszewski has earned a start in all seven games for the Badgers this season. The 6-3 post leads the team, shooting 64.2 percent from the field, which ranks third in the Big Ten, and

ranking third on the team with 8.8 points per game.

� Laszewski had a career night vs. Southern on Nov. 20, posting an all-time high of 25 points, shooting a best 10-14 (71.4 percent) from the field, and a peak 5-9 from the charity stripe, while adding a career best two blocks.

� She needed only the first quarter to equal her previous career best of 10 points.

ON THE GLASS � Marsha Howard leads the Badgers in game-leading rebounds. She has led UW in rebounds in five games, including the most recent four games.

� On the year, Van Leeuwen is averaging 5.6 points per game, up from her freshman-year average of 4.0 points per game. She has also upped her rebounds from 3.1 per game as a rookie to 3.4 per game this sea-son. She has the second-most assists on the team with 22.

PAINT THE TOWN RED � Wisconsin is outscoring its opponents 113-55 on second-chance points. The Badgers average 12.6 points compared to 6.1 points per game by opponents.

� Senior Cayla McMorris was named to the Paradise Jam All-Tournament Team after averaging 17.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game over three games. The 6-0 guard led the Badgers with 21 points vs. Syracuse and 14 points vs. George Washington.

STRONG TEAM RETURNS � The Badgers return 69 percent of their points (1,307 of 1,887) and 69 percent of their rebounds (846 of 1,219) from last season. UW returns four starters and nine letterwinners from last season’s team.

� Senior Cayla McMorris returns after earn-ing honorable mention All-Big Ten honors last season. The 6-1 guard led the Badgers with 12.3 points per game. She was the fifth-most improved scorer in the Big Ten last year, upping her scoring average by 5.8 points per game.

� Junior Marsha Howard ranked third on the Badger squad last season with 7.5 points per game. The 5-10 forward was the sixth most improved scorer in the Big Ten, improving her scoring by 5.4 points per game. Howard is also UW’s top returning rebounder, ranking second last season with 4.9 boards per game.

� Wisconsin’s other returning starters are sophomores Courtney Fredrickson (6.8 ppg/4.1 rpg) and Kendra Van Leeuwen (3.9 ppg/3.1 rpg/3.4 apg).

BRONZE FOR VAN LEEUWEN � Kendra Van Leeuwen celebrated with Team Canada as it won a bronze medal in the 2017 FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup in Udine and Cividale del Friuli,

Italy, on July 31. It was the Canadians best ever finish in the world championship.

� Van Leeuwen played in all seven games, averaging 13.4 minutes per game. She averaged 2.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.

FOUR JOIN BADGERS � The Badgers welcome four new players in 2017-18. Senior Kelly Karlis as well as freshmen Niya Beverley, Lizzie Miller and Kara Crowley join the team.

� A 6-2 forward, Karlis played three years at Ohio University. She averaged 5.2 points and 4.4 rebounds per game for her career. Karlis averaged 20.7 minutes per game while shooting 37.8 percent from the field, including 31.8 percent from 3-point range. Karlis will sit out the 2017-18 season due to NCAA transfer rules.

� Beverley was ranked as the No. 22 point guard by espnW. She averaged 10 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 1.5 steals as a senior for St. John’s College, which won the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference and city championships.

� A 5-7 guard, Miller aided De Pere High School to a runner-up finish at the 2017 Division 1 State Championship. She was named the 2017 conference player of the year and the Green Bay Press Gazette player of the year. A first-team all-state honoree, Miller averaged 14.8 points. 3.8 rebounds 2.0 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.

� The 5-10 Crowley was a member of Beaver Dam’s 2017 State Division 2 Championship team, averaging 10 points and 6 rebounds per game. Crowley served as a team captain while earning second-team Wisconsin Little Ten all-conference honors. She also scored 1,000 career points as a senior.

Texas Rio Grande Valley (8-2) UTRGV is off to a hot start with an 8-2 record, including two recent wins over UTSA (70-58) and UMass (67-59). Its only two losses of the season came at the hands of Oklahoma State (80-38) and Texas A&M Corpus Christi (71-41). The Vaqueros are in the midst of a tough stretch, facing North Dakota State on Tuesday

night before traveling to Madison for Wednesday night’s matchup. Sophomore Megan Johnson powered UTRGV to its 70-58 vic-tory, rallying back from a 17-point deficit. She had a career-high 31 points and outscored UTSA 23-17 on her own in the second half. She averages 8.1 points per game and 5.2 rebounds per game.

UTSA RECAPUTRGV is now a 8-2 for the first time in program history Johnson earned the Tournament Most Valuable Player award and is joined on the All-Tournament team by juniors Quynne Huggins and Jameka Dowell. During the tournament, Johnson averaged 20.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game. Huggins averaged 17.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. Dowell averaged 4.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. In this game, Johnson became the first UTRGV player to score 31 points since Nov. 29, 2014, when Shawnte’ Goff scored 31 points against Houston Baptist. The 31 points ties for the 11th-highest single-game total in program history. Johnson went 12-for-20 from the field, tying for the eighth most field goals made in a game in program history.
