INTRODUCTION AND MANUAL

THE AUTHOR World of Wisdom is the result of a close cooperation between professional astrologer Adrian Ross Duncan and some very skilled programmers. Adrian Ross Duncan's main concern at all stages of the development was to communicate astrology in a way that can be simply understood. The text is inspired by 15 years of private consultations. Adrian's special consultation technique is described in his book "Doing Time on Planet Earth" which is available worldwide through Element Books (ISBN 1-85230-190-2).

OUR GOALIt is the wish of the WOW development team that the wisdom and magic of astrology should become available to as many people as possible in as many countries as possible, as inexpensively as possible. We want to reach anyone with an open mind who is interested in personal development. As developers of the program we do not expect the user to have any knowledge of astrology, neither do we expect the user to necessarily commence a deep study of the subject. The only requirement is curiosity, both as regards oneself as well as others. We would of course be only too pleased, if the user became captivated by the magic of astrology, for this program is an excellent introduction to the subject.

ASTROLOGICAL ADVICEWorld of Wisdom contains detailed information about all major astrological influences.These descriptions are divided into 2 sections: personal and professional. It is our hope that career-oriented people will use the professional section to discover and develop personal talents, so that they are better able to attain their personal goals and visions.The language is down-to-earth and positive in tone. The message is that it is possible to achieve, through insight and application, optimal results from the cards that have been dealt out at birth.Problems can be transformed into resources through wise action, and WOW has plenty of suggestions as to how this can be done.

PERSONAL GROWTHThis program strives to reveal the meaning of life´s challenges and to help you define your spiritual and professional direction in life. The personal section deals with emotional issues and explains in simple language both how childhood issues influence present behaviour, and what is demanded of you to eliminate unconscious sabotage mechanisms. Here you can read about how to get the most out of your love-life and sexuality , and enjoy intimacy.

PERSONAL REPORTSAll interpretations can be read on screen by simply clicking on the horoscope. Moreover you can also make detailed print-outs. These personal reports reflect the way a professional astrologer would interpret your horoscope. They are divided into sections dealing with Identity (the Sun), Emotions (the Moon), Love (Venus), Sexuality (Mars), Destiny (the Moon´s nodes) etc. These personal reports are beautifully and graphically presented, and you can adapt them to your taste in special windows both as regards the layout and the length of the report.

DYNAMIC CHANGELife does not stand still. Just as the Earth revolves on its axis, and the planets circle the Sun in an eternal cosmic dance, so does the individual experience a constant spiral of development. The WOW program - through following the movement of the planets - can identify major times of change in your life, showing clearly in graphic form the months when these changes are at their strongest. You can learn about the meaning of these changes - what to do, and what not to do.The program enables you to specify different years of your life - in the past, present or future - and read about the challenges and changes you encounter in these years. You will discover that this program function is astonishingly precise and extremely useful in connection with planning for the future.

USER-FRIENDLYThe essential element for us in the development of this program is that it had to be easy. Therefore, as soon as you have written in the birth data, automatic functions look after the rest. The program´s enormous database - with over 80,000 towns in over 300 countries - looks after all the details regarding geographic coordinates, time zones and Summer Time. And the Windows user interface together with the mouse means that there is an excellent dialogue between the user and the machine.

1. INSTALLATION (Shareware only)The program is installed by double-clicking on the WOWINT32.EXE file. The program will be unzipped and automatically installed with InstallShield.

This WOW Horoscope Interpreter program will be installed by default in a C:\WOW directory. (If you have the Astrology for Lovers programs it will be installed in the C:\WOWLOVE directory.

The Borland Database - which is used by both World of Wisdom programs -is installed by default under C:\Program Files\Common Files. The Horoscope Interpreter program fills about 9MBs in the WOW directory and about 8.4 MBs in the Common Files directory. Please note: when printing out analyses, you will need 10 MB of free space on your hard disk.

2. THE OPENING WINDOWYou can now see a horoscope wheel window and an interpretation window on screen. The horoscope is calculated for the time shown by your computer clock, and for London. (You may redefine time and place later.) You will notice the following icons on the icon bar:

A. Internet icon: click here to access website.B. Horoscope icon: calculates horoscopes.C. Animation Icon: Shows films of planetD. Horary Chart icon: Calculates the horoscope for here and now.E. Dynamic Analysis icon: Defines time period for transits.

Get context-sensitive help at any time by pressing the Alt Gr. key whilst clicking with the mouse, or by clicking on the question mark icon, and then clicking on the area you need information about.- The mouse-pointer changes to an arrow with a question mark.- Click anywhere on screen with this Help icon and a Help window will open.

3. FINDING AND CALCULATING A HOROSCOPEInitially you can choose a horoscope from the existing database, later you can calculate your own.

- Click on Files on the menu bar. A drop-down menu will now appear- Now click on Open Name... in the drop-down menu.



- Two windows will open.- Find Bill Clinton's name in the Name window.- The Search Name window is placed in front of the Name Data window. - The simplest way to find a name is to type the first letter(s) of the name in the Search for text box. You can also scroll in the list itself.- Click on Bill Clinton in the list. His name will now be shown in the Search for text box, and the Name Data window.

- Now click on OK. The Search Name window disappears, and Bill Clinton's data will be in the Name Data window.- To calculate the horoscope for Bill Clinton, all you need to do is to click on OK.



- The Name Data window is divided into sections: Basics / Details / Address / Picture / Notes / Groups / Network / Horoscope. (The section title changes colour when selected)- As a beginner you need not go in to any other section than Basics. All complex functions: Time Zones, Daylight Savings Time and geographic coordinates are fully automatic.

You now have the Horoscope Wheel window and Interpretation window on screen.- For a direct interpretation you can use the transport control buttons. The interpretation starts with the Ascendant. Press the middle transport control button pointing to the right, and the WOW program will lead you through a step-by-step interpretation of Bill Clinton's character. - Click on Personal or Professional, and read about these different areas of his life. Scroll in text if necessary.

4. AUTOMATIC ON-SCREEN INTERPRETATIONYou can access any area of the interpretation by clicking on the Main title and then the Subtitle drop-down list box.

- Click on the down arrow next to Main title and choose the relevant subject from the list.- The various interpretation titles can now be seen in red lettering.(The transport control buttons will take you through the interpretation automatically.)

The automatic interpretation goes through the horoscope systematically, just as an astrologer might do.- If you now click on the Subtitle drop-down list box, you can see the different factors relating to the Main title in green lettering.- Note: You can click on any of these sub-sections, and the interpretation will



immediately appear in the interpretation window.- You can move backwards and forwards in the interpretation by clicking on the transport control buttons with the mouse.- The middle right arrow takes you through the interpretation one text at a time.- The middle left arrow brings you back one text to what you have just read.- The arrow on the far right takes you to the end of the interpretation.- The arrow on the far left takes you to the beginning of the interpretation.

Each Subtitle of the interpretation is divided into a Personal and a Professional section. - However the most important Aspects have an extra section.- Choose for example "Drives" from the Main Title drop-down list box.- Now select the Mars conjunction Neptune aspect from the Subtitle drop-down list box.

- Note the sliding scale which indicates the aspect strength.- You can now choose between 3 texts relating to Drives.

5. CREATING YOUR OWN HOROSCOPETo calculate a horoscope, you have to open the Name Data window. There are several different ways of coming into this window.- When you write in new data, click on File and then click on New Name...- The Name Data window now opens with blank text input boxes, ready for you to write in your name and birth data.- Alternatively you can use the mini-horoscope icon on the icon bar.

-The text cursor is in the First Name text box. Type your first name and then press the TAB key to get to the next text box, where you type your surname.- Your country/state, and the nearest town (or other place name) to your birth place should be in the WOW database. Use Search command buttons to find



and define your birth country and place, or write the country or town name. (It is sufficient to simply write the first 3 letters of the country/town and then press TAB.)- When entering birth date and time, do NOT adjust for Daylight Savings time, or Zone time. The WOW program compensates automatically.- Fill out each text box. Use TAB or the mouse to go from box to box

Note: There are many anomalies of Zone and Daylight Savings Time that WOW cannot include in its database. You may wish to check with your local authority.

- Click on the Search command button to the right of the Country/State text box.- The Search Country list box appears. Type the first letter(s) of the country in the Search for text box until the name of your country/state appears in the list. - Click with the mouse on the country. - Click on OK. You now return to the Name Data window. (Short cut: Double click on name in the Country/State window)- Repeat the process for your birth place name.

Note the country or state has to be written or selected before the place name. The WOW program uses the country/state and place name to adjust the time zone (East or West of Greenwich, London) automatically.- In the same manner Daylight Savings time (Summer time) is adjusted automatically when you enter your birth date and time.- After filling in your name, your birth date, time and place, click OK and Yes to save. Your horoscope will now appear on screen in the horoscope wheel window, if this is open. (Windows are opened and closed using the View menu.)

6. MANUAL ON-SCREEN INTERPRETATIONUse the mouse pointer to click on planets, signs, houses, house cusps and aspects in the horoscope wheel to learn their precise meanings.- Click for example on Venus in the horoscope wheel window. A series of command buttons appear on the icon bar, below the menu bar.- Note that a new text describing the general meaning of this planet has appeared in the Interpretation window.A. General meaning of planetB. Planet in SignC. Planet in HouseD. Planetary aspects

- Click on each command button in turn. A new interpretation text appears. - Now click on the Aspects command button on the icon bar. A drop-down menu appears showing all the aspects to Venus. Note the "orb", which shows how exact the aspect is.- Click on one of these aspects.- The strength of the aspect is shown on the sliding scale in the interpretation window.

Note: The horoscope symbols flash corresponding to the interpretation text.

7. PRINTING OUT YOUR HOROSCOPEYou can print out a horoscope drawing and astrological tables as follows:- Click on the File menu command and then on Print Wheel Drawing.- The Print Wheel Drawing + Info window opens.



- You can adjust the sizes and position of the horoscope and the corresponding tables here, before printing out.- You can customize the print-out according to your needs:- The tables and horoscope can be removed by clicking on the check boxes next to the table names.- They can be resized by typing in a new size in the Size text boxes. - They can be repositioned by dragging them with the mouse or by writing new numbers in the placement box.

8. PRINTING OUT AN INTERPRETATIONYou can print out a written report of everything you can read on screen in the interpretation window:- Click on the File menu item, and then select Print Interpretation...- The Print Interpretation window opens, and you can now place or remove checkmarks next to the different items.- The written interpretation can vary in length from 7 to 50 pages depending on what you choose, font size etc..



You have the following options:a) First choose whether you want just the personal texts, just the professional texts - or both.b) You can then choose in "Include Pages" whether you want the introduction, the symbol explanation page, and/or the horoscope drawing.c) Choose between Strong, Medium or Weak aspects.d) You can choose the number of analyses you want to print under "Multiple".

- You can also edit in Dynamic Analysis and define any 3-year period from 1500 to 2099.- After making your selections, click on OK, and the print-out will commence.

9. DESIGNING YOUR INTERPRETATION LAYOUTClick on Page Layout in the Print Interpretation window. The Interpretation Layout window will open. You have the following options for customizing the written interpretation:- Select the number of columns. - Select size of margins. The program is designed to automatically support your printer's margin parameters.- Choose the fontstyle for main titles, subtitles, the main text, header and footer.- Select spacing between lines.



If you wish to select a different font style, click on the font display command buttons. - The standard Windows font selection window will appear.- Scroll in the font list and select your preferred font. You can also specify size, colour and style (italic/bold etc.) in this window.Please note: a larger font will use more paper. We recommend the standard settings.

10. SELECTING EXCERPTS FROM BOOKIf you want to read or print out specific interpretation texts, click on the File menu, and then select Print Book Excerpts...- Over 1000 texts will now be displayed in the Print Book Excerpts window.- Scroll in the list and click on a text.- You can select a block of texts by holding down the Shift key whilst clicking on the texts. You can make a selection of individual texts by holding the Ctrl-key down.



Click on Print for printout of selected texts.You can choose to read a selected text on screen:- Scroll in the list.- Click on the desired text- Click on View- A window will now open showing the interpretation. Press "Alt+F4", or choose "Close" from the window's control box drop-down menu, to leave the Show window.

11. OPTIONS IN THE NAME DATA WINDOWBirth information for horoscope calculation is entered in the Name Data window, which has 8 sections: Basic, Details, Address, Picture, Notes, Groups, Network, Horoscope.- The Details section shows the geographic coordinates, time zone, and Summer Time for the birth place.- The automatic functions can be disabled in this window. - The Address section is designed to store personal details regarding the person for whom the horoscope is calculated. Address, phone and fax etc can be entered here.- All these details will be stored together with horoscope data.



It is also possible to store photographs together with birth data in the World of Wisdom database.- Pictures can be transferred from a digital camera, or with a home video, if you have the necessary software and hardware.- You can also scan a photo in, if you have a scanner.- Pictures are placed in WOW from the Clipboard by clicking on the Insert command button. (You must first copy to clipboard from Windows Paintbrush or similar program.)

For the working astrologer the Notes section can be extremely useful. It can be used for:- Recording the source of horoscope data. - Writing up notes about a client.- Recording the results of horary questions, research etc.N.B Each particular section of the Name Data window can be seen if you have it open whilst you scroll in the Search Names list.

12. ORGANIZATION OF DATA IN GROUPSHoroscopes can be stored under different headings - for example Family, Clients etc. Horoscope data has to be saved into the main database first. (Click on Save in the Name Data window.)- In the Group section click on Insert, and the Search Group window will be shown. Here you can choose an existing group or type in a new one. The chosen group or groups will now be shown in the Group section and saved together with the name.- You can subsequently find the relevant name data by choosing the group in the Name Data window.



You can peek at each horoscope in mini-format before clicking on OK...this can be very useful for professionals who may be able to recognize the horoscope easier than the name.- If you open the Search Name window whilst the horoscope section is open, you can actually scroll through each horoscope in turn by clicking on each name.

Please note: The Network section is not as yet in use. It is hoped to create a network of World of Wisdom users through telephone and modem at a later date.

13. CHANGING THE LAYOUT ON THE SCREENOne of the great advantages of Windows is the ability to arrange the display according to personal taste. All windows can be moved and resized with the mouse, and all adjustments can be saved in the Settings menu.- If you have a large high-resolution screen you may wish to open all the windows in the View menu and then choose Tile from the Arrange menu. All the windows appear side-by-side within the main window.- Another display arrangement option is Cascade. Open all the windows in the View menu and then click on Cascade in the Arrange menu. The windows are displayed behind each other, and they can be brought to the front simply by clicking on them. Or you can choose any window individually in the View menu.

When you have become familiar with the program, you may want to create your own personal layout by "dragging" the corners or sides of each window with the mouse and thus change their shape and size.- Save your preferred layout by choosing Save as Your Standard in the Settings menu.



If you only want to see the horoscope, the horoscope window can be "maximized" by clicking on the up arrow in the top right-hand corner. (Any screen window can be maximized in this manner.)- The horoscope wheel will now fill the whole screen.- The horoscope window can be reduced to its previous size by clicking on the down arrow (Restore button) at the top right of the window.

14. DEFINING "HERE" AND "NOW" FUNCTIONSIt is possible to have the program open with a horoscope calculated for the program start time and your present location (called a "horary chart"):- Go into "Here" and Now" in the Options menu, and click on "Define Here".- Select the country where you now reside in the Select Country/State window. - Repeat the procedure in the Search Place window which appears next.



- Now go back to Define Here and Now in the Options menu and put a checkmark at Horoscope for Here and Now on Startup. The horary chart will now appear on startup, calculated for your home residence and for local time.

To define "now", click on "Now", and adjust the computer clock to local time.

15. PAST & FUTURE - THE DYNAMIC ANALYSISTo read about the transit functions, (which describe trends and changes in the past present and future), a period must be defined in the Dynamic Analysis window.- Click on the Graph-icon on the Icon Bar, type in the desired period and click on OK.- A maximum period of 3 years can be activated at any one time e.g. 1995 -1998.(WOW calculates from 1501 to 2099)



If you want to read about past, present and future influences on screen, the Dynamic Analysis checkbox must be activated in the Interpretation window.- Put a checkmark in the box next to Dynamic Analysis.- You can either choose Birth Analysis or Dynamic Analysis at any one time - not both at the same time.

There are a number of different ways to read about your transits*:- Make sure you have defined a time period (max. 3 years) in the Dynamic Analysis window, and that you have activated Dynamic Analysis in the interpretation window by clicking on it.- You can now click on Main Title and choose a life theme.- Now click on Subtitle. Choose a transit aspect from the drop-down list, and an interpretation text will appear.

*Transits are the movement of the planets in time in relation to the birth horoscope.

A planet which transits the birth horoscope will evoke a need for change and growth and can last from a couple of months to a couple of years.



- The peaks and troughs in the graph show when this influence is at its strongest and when it decreases.- Months and years can be seen at the foot of the graph.- Click on an area of the graph with the mouse, and the exact date is shown.

16. USING TRANSIT BUTTON ON ICON BARDynamic influences can also be accessed, even though Birth Analysis is activated in the interpretation window, just as long as you have specified a 1 -3 year period in Dynamic Analysis.- Click on a planet in the horoscope and you will be able to see on the icon bar if there are any transits to this planet.- Click on the Transits button and the transit interpretation appears.



You can define which transits you want to include by selecting Dynamic analysis in the Options menu, or by clicking on the Graph icon.- We recommend that you only choose the major "hard" transits of Pluto, Neptune, Uranus, Saturn and Jupiter...these can really be felt.- If you are the sensitive type you can choose the less powerful hard aspects and also the "soft" transits, but please bear in mind: it can be confusing to include all these influences.

17.PRINTING OUT THE DYNAMIC ANALYSISOpen the Print Interpretation window in the File menu and put a checkmark in the Dynamic Influences box. Choose Dynamic Analysis alone (this is simplest to understand) or with the Birth Analysis.- Here you can also define which time period and which transits you want by clicking on the Options command button next to Dynamic Influences.- The Dynamic Influence window will now open and you can put a checkmark alongside the desired transits, and then click OK.

18. THE AUTOMATIC ATLAS FUNCTIONSOpen Atlas in the Options menu to edit the Atlas database, adding new towns and countries, and adjusting or adding new Summer Times.- In the Atlas window there are 4 options - Countries/Places /Zone Times / Summer Times.- In the Countries section you can add new countries or States. ( It is not necessary to fill out the North, South East and West coordinates when adding countries).

Note: It can be necessary to define new countries or states when there are



Zone or Summer Time disparities inside the country. Read Help.

You can also add new towns when entering data in the Name Data section:- If you write in a town which is not in the database, a window will open asking you if you want to enter the coordinates for the new town. - Click Yes, and the Atlas database opens. Write the coordinates in for the new town. (You will need an accurate Atlas to do this.)- You MUST select a time zone and summer time definition. This means you should click on Search and select the country for which this definition applies.Note: England is found under Britain, England

In the Time Zone section of the Atlas Database , you can read when the Gregorian calendar was introduced as well as a history of the Time Zone changes for each country.- To edit time zone history, write the new date in the text fields at the bottom of the window and click on the Insert arrow (Up-arrow).- To remove an incorrect date, select it by clicking on it with the mouse then on the Remove arrow (Down-arrow).

In the Summer Time section, you can read a list of Summer Time for each country.- To edit time Summer Time history, write the new start and finish dates in the text fields at the bottom of the window and click on the Insert arrow (Up-arrow.)- To remove an incorrect date, select it by clicking on it with the mouse and then on the Remove arrow (Down-arrow.)

Summer Times have been entered until the year 2000, but note that it can become necessary to edit these times if new political decisions are made regarding Summer Time.

19. PRINTING MULTIPLE INTERPRETATIONSIt is possible to print out several interpretations at once. This is a useful time-saving function - particularly for professionals.- Click on Multiple in the Print Interpretation window.- The Select button is then enabled.- Click on Select, and the Search Names window will open.

You can select names for batch printing as follows:- First select the group under which the names have been saved by clicking in the group drop-down list box.- Scroll in the Search Names window list box until the desired name appears. - Click on the name to select it and then click on the Add command button, and the name will now be added to the list box on the right. - Click on OK. You will return to the Print Interpretation window. Click on OK in this window, and the print-outs will start.

20. THE RIGHT-HAND MOUSE BUTTONIn Windows programs, the right-hand mouse button is primarily used for changing properties in a window. Click on the right-hand mouse button whilst pointing at the horoscope wheel window. Here you can change background picture and select many other options.- You can also change the properties of the Interpretation and graph window in the same way.



In this example you can change the colour of the graph by right-clicking on it. The colour you choose will then be displayed in the printout. (This could save you red ink!)

21. IMPORTING NAME DATASelect Import Names in the File menu. The standard Windows file selection window opens. Double-click on the directory relating to the other program. The name file will appear in the files list box on the left.- Double-click on the name file.- You can now choose the group you wish to import the names under, and then click OK.

The WOW program can only import names from Electric Ephemeris (PCA) at



the present time.
