OverviewIntroductionThe TS690R wireless alarm control system has beendesigned to suit small to medium installation sites.The system can monitor 30 wireless zones and 8conventional zones via remote keypads or LECs.

The TS690R is designed to meet the requirementsof BS6799 class "III" and complies with all currentNACOSS codes of practice for domestic and smallbusiness audible ONLY intruder alarm systems. Thesystem can be certificated by approved installersas a Wirefree "Class III" installation.

The radio operating frequency between thecontrol panel receiver and the detectors is418MHz with a bandwidth of 200kHz. The radiosection is approved to MPT 1340.

Control PanelThe control panel is the controlling unit for thesystem, it has a power supply and connections fora standby battery. It has the following facilities:

l On board keypad

l 8 character Starburst LCD display

l Bell and strobe outputs

l 3 programmable outputs

l Extension loudspeaker output

l Printer output

l All system program information and the 150event log is stored in a removable non-volatilememory (NVM)

l 10 user codes + engineer's code

l 2.1Ah battery capacity

Jamming DetectionThe TS690R features a radio jamming detectionoption which can be enabled or disabled (see"System Configuration" on page 31. Whenenabled the control panel monitors for other radiosignals on the same frequency used by thedetectors. If the control panel detects acontinuous signal for more than 30 seconds thecontrol panel will raise an alarm. In the unset state

the alarm causes the internal sounders to beepevery minute and the display shows "JAMMED". Ina full or part set state a full alarm is generated.

Wireless DetectorsThe TS690R uses the Scantronic 500 series range ofwireless detectors. The following devices areavailable:

502r Watch Pendant PAThe 502r watch pendant is designed for use as apanic alarm for the TS690R. The 502r comprises aplastic waterproof case that can either be worn ona strap round the wrist, round the neck as apendant or clipped to a pocket.

509r Fire DetectorThe 509r fire detector sends a signal to alarmpanel when it detects the presence of smoked.

515r Passive Infra RedThe 515r Passive Infra Red (PIR) is an indoordetector which has a 10 metre range.

525r Remote Setting DeviceThe 525r remote setting device can be used toset, unset and part set the alarm system. Inaddition, pressing the "ARM" and "OFF" at thesame time will cause a panic alarm.

535r Universal TransmitterThe 535r universal transmitter sends a signal toalarm panel when the associated magnet movesaway from the case, and sends a restore signalwhen the magnet is re-aligned. If required, youcan wire external normally closed devices (e.g.20mm flush contacts) to the 535r.

Remote KeypadsUp to 4 remote keypads can be connected to thecontrol panel. Each remote keypad has two hardwired detection circuits and a single switched -veoutput. There are two types of remote keypadsthat can be used:

Remote Arming Station (TS700.ARM)The Remote Arming Station only allows setting andunsetting of the system. The unit has two indicatorLEDs, the “Power LED” and a programmable“Function LED” (the “Function LED” may beprogrammed as “Fault” or “Area Set” etc.).

System Architecture

TS700 LECThe Local Expansion Card (LEC) provides twoprogrammable hard wired detection circuits andone programmable output.

System InstallationRadio Site SurveyWith a wirefree system we recommend that youcarry out radio tests as part of a site survey toensure that the control panel can receive theradio signal from the detectors. If you cannot dothe tests during a survey, carry them out beforeinstallation.

Procedure for simple Installation1. Place the control panel in its planned location.

2. Power up the control panel.

3. Program the control panel to learn a detector.

4. Select the "Walk Test" option (see user guide).

5. Test the reception by triggering the detector ateach planned location. If the control panelgenerates a tone the detector is beingreceived.

Procedure for Certified InstallationYou will need a 545r Radio Signal Strength meterand a 546 Test Transmitter.

1. Switch the test transmitter on and place it at theproposed site for the control panel. Thetransmitter sends a pulsed signal, 10 secondson and 5 seconds off.

2. Switch the test meter into "Track" mode andwalk around the premises.

3. Check that the signal strength is between 5and 9 at each proposed location fordetectors.

4. Move to a different location to improve thesignal strength if it is between 1 and 4. Makesure the new location is suitable for thedetector.

5. Change the location of the test transmitter ifthe signal strength is not greater than 4 for anytransmitter, make sure that the user agrees tothe new location for the control panel.

6. For certified systems note down the signalstrength for each detector location and keepa record in the control panel and in theinstallation file.

Control Panel LocationThe following considerations must be taken wheninstalling the control panel.

1. Positioned in a convenient location to connectthe mains supply.

2. Positioned within the protected area.

3. Positioned in a convenient location so that theusers can reach the control panel in order tooperate the system.

4. Ensure that there is a clear space around thecontrol panel to allow it to receive a goodradio signal.

Do NOT locate the panel

5. Outside the area covered by the alarmsystem.

6. Near to ground level.

7. Close to or on large metal structures, forexample: water tanks, cars, fridges andfreezers.

8. Closer than 1 metre to mains wiring and metalwater or gas pipes.

9. Inside steel closures.

10.Next to high voltage electrical equipment, orelectronic equipment, particularly computers,photocopiers or other radios.

Cable RoutingWhen installing cables, the following should benoted:

+ Ensure that all Network and hard wireddetection circuit cables are kept clear ofmains supply cables, telephone cables,R.F. cables and cables supplying bells orsounders.

+ Mains power supply cables to the systemmust be connected to an un-switchedfused spur that cannot be accidentallyswitched off. The mains cable must enterthe housing via its own cable entry point.

Control Panel Assembly

1 Mains cable entryThe main supply cable for the TS690R mustenter the control panel via this entry point.

2 Main PCBThe main Printed Circuit Board (PCB).

3 DisplayA back lit 8 character Starburst LCD.

4 LoudspeakerThe internal sounder for the TS690R. It islocated underneath the main PCB.

5 Radio ModuleRadio receiving module. DO NOT adjust thetrimmer on the module.

6 AerialRadio receving aerial. The aerial mustpositioned as shown when refitting the PCB.

7 Standby BatteryA 2.1 Amp Hour (Ah) battery must be fittedinside the TS690R in order to maintain thesystem in the event of a mains power failure.

8 Mains TransformerThe mains transformer which transforms theincoming mains supply down to 18V a.c.

9 Mains Fused Terminal BlockThe mains connection terminals for theTS690R. The terminal block is fitted with a200mA fuse.

Control Panel InstallationProceed as follows:

1. Remove the screw from the top of the controlpanel and lift away the front cover.

2. Ensure that there is no battery in the housing,then remove the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) asfollows:

(a) Disconnect the AC leads from thetransformer and disconnect the internalloudspeaker from the terminal blockconnections.

(b) Pull down the plastic clip at the bottom righthand corner of the PCB and gently lift thePCB forward.

(c) Repeat with the plastic clip at the bottomleft hand corner of the PCB.

(d) The bottom of the PCB will then swingforward and the whole PCB will come awayfrom the back box.

(e) Store the PCB in a safe place.

3. Hold the control panel back box in the requiredposition (keyhole to the top) and mark thecentre of the keyhole position. Remove theback box, drill and plug the hole.

4. Screw a No 10 screw into the plugged hole.Re-position the back box and mark theremaining two securing holes. Remove theback box, drill and plug the holes.

5. Re-position the back box and pass all cablesinto the back box via the appropriate cableentries.

6. Secure the back box using not less than 30mmx No 10 screws through the three securingholes.

7. Re-fit the PCB assembly by aligning the top ofthe PCB into the 2 supports in the top of thehousing ensuring that the edges of the boardsit between the 2 flanges and that aerial ispositioned as shown in figure 2. Push thebottom of the PCB until it clicks in place.

8. Re-connect the AC leads to the transformer.

9. If a remote keypad is being fitted to the system,refer to page 12.

Mains ConnectionThe mains supply is connected to a 3 way "EuroType" fused terminal block, which is fitted with a200mA fuse. All electrical connections should becarried out by a qualified electrician and mustcomply with the current IEE regulations.

+ To comply with European regulations thesupply should be fed from a readilyaccessible disconnect device, e.g.un-switched fused spur fitted.

+ When making mains connections it shouldbe ensured that if the cable slips in such away as to place a strain on the conductors,the protective earthing conductor will bethe last to take the strain.

Battery ConnectionA 2.1Ah battery must be fitted to the system toallow it to function during a mains fail condition.The TS690R is equipped with a “Battery Protection”circuit so that if a battery is accidentally reverseconnected or its voltage is below 4V. To clear thefault simply reconnect or replace the battery asappropriate.

PCB Layout

1 Auxiliary / Remote FuseThis 1 Amp fuse protects the supply to theremote network and auxiliary devices.

2 Printer PortThis 6-pin plug is used for connecting toeither a CPA6.P printer or a standard RS232printer via the MPA/DCI printer adapter.

3 DisplayA back lit 8 character Starburst LCD.

4 Learn SensorWhen learning new devices you must holdthe device so that the activity LED on thedevice aligns with the learn sensor.

5 Factory ResetIf these pins are shorted during power-up allsystem parameters are reset to their factorydefault settings. If the engineer’s passcodeis lost or forgotten it can be reset to 1234without losing any other program data byshorting these pins whilst the system ispowered.

6 Tamper SwitchThe tamper switch provides the tamperprotection for the main control panel, sothat if the cover is removed an alarm isgenerated.

11 Speaker VolumeThis adjust the volume of the internal sounderand any extension loudspeakers. Only thevolume of the advisory tones such as entry,exit and chime may be adjusted using thiscontrol. Alarm tones are always at fullvolume.

13 AC InputThese flying leads provide the ac supply tothe control panel. They are connected tothe mains transformer and are not polarityconscious.

15 Extension LoudspeakerThis terminal provides an output to a 16 Ohmextension loudspeaker. The other side of theloudspeaker is connected to the [H/O-]terminal.

Remote/LEC Network WiringThe Remote Network connections are used forconnecting either remote keypads or LECs. Eachdevice has 5 connection terminals and thereforea 6 core cable is required for interconnection. It isrecommended that the spare core is doubled upwith the [B] connection as this will help reducevoltage drop on long cable runs.

Devices can be individually connected back tothe control panel (star connection) or loopedtogether (daisy-chain connection). Which evermethod of connection is used the distance to thefurthest device from the control panel must notexceed 100 metres.

Power for detectors are provided by the [A] and [B]terminals, see figure 5.

Remote KeypadsTwo types of remote keypads can be used on thesystem, however, only the TS790 Star remotekeypad can be used for programming. Anycombination of remote keypad can be used onthe same system if desired.

TS790 Star Remote KeypadThe TS790 remote keypad has a 8 characterbacklit Starburst Liquid Crystal Display (LCD).

TS700 Remote Arming StationThe TS700 remote arming station only has twoindicator LED's, a power LED and a programmablefunction LED which follows the programmableoutput.

Installation Procedure.

+ Always ensure that all power (mains andbattery) is removed before making anyconnections to the remote keypad.

1. Separate the cover and base by using ascrewdriver to push 2 of the clips (top orbottom) inward from the base indents, then liftthe cover assembly, noting that the PCB is fixedto the under side of the cover.

2. Hold the base in position (keyhole to the top)and mark the three securing holes, drill andplug the wall as required. Pass all the cablesinto the base via the cable entry points asappropriate and secure the base to the wall.

3. Connect “Remote Network” and detectioncircuit cables to the appropriate terminals.

4. Set the I/D selector jumper link to the requiredposition:

5. I f the remote keypad has a "ENT" keyenabled/disable link it can be used to limit thefunctionality of the remote keypad. If the "ENT"key is enabled the remote keypad can beused to set/unset and access all user menus. Ifthe "ENT" key is disabled the remote keypadcan only be used to set and unset the system.

6. Finally clip the remote keypad cover onto thebase being careful not to trap any cables or toobstruct the tamper switch.

TS700 LEC InstallationThe TS700 LEC (Local Expansion Card) isconnected to the “Remote Network” and providestwo additional programmable detection circuitsand a programmable output. The “RemoteNetwork” may have up to three LECs connected,as the system will always require at least oneremote keypad.

+ Always ensure that all power (mains andbattery) is removed before making anyconnections to the LEC.

1. Remove the cover from the base and carefullyremove the PCB.

2. If the LEC is being fitted inside the control panelyou may remove the LEC PCB from its baseand secure it to base of the control panel usingself adhesive feet. If required, the tamperswitch may also be disabled by fitting thejumper link across JP2, see Figure 8.

3. If the LEC is being fitted outside the controlpanel, hold the base in position and mark thetwo securing holes. Drill and plug the wall, thenpass all cables into the base via the cableentry points. Secure the base to the wall usingthe appropriate fixing screws.

4. Connect “Remote Network” cables anddetection circuit cables to the appropriateterminals, see Figure 8.

5. Set the I/D selector jumper link to the requiredposition:

Hard Wired Detection CircuitsDetection circuits from remote keypads or LECsmust be hard wired. Two methods can beemployed:

Double PoleThe DP method requires the following:

l The detector alarm and tamper contacts areconnected to the zone and tamper terminalsrespectively.

l The combined alarm and tamper loopresistance must be less than 100 Ohms.

l The maximum number of detection devicesallowed in a circuit is ten.

l Normally open devices such as pressure padsand exit terminator buttons are connectedbetween the zone and tamper terminals.

l If the detection circuit is not used links can befitted across the zone and tamper loops orprogrammed as Not Used.

End Of LineThe EOL method requires the following:

l The detector alarm contacts must have a 4K7shunt resistor fitted.

l A 2K2 End of Line (EOL) resistor must be fitted atthe point in the circuit furthest from the controlpanel.

l Loop resistance with the EOL resistor shortedmust be less than 100 Ohms.

l The maximum number of detection devicesallowed in a circuit is ten.

TRG - This is the bell trigger output which willswitch to 0V on alarm and is rated at500mA. This output can be programmedfor SAB or SCB operation, as follows:SAB: TRG - will switch to 0V on alarm andwill provide a maximum of 500mA.SCB: TRG - will provide a negative holdoff (500mA), which is removed on alarm.

Auxiliary TamperThese two terminals provide tamper protection toauxil iary devices such as power supplies,extension loudspeakers etc. If they are not usedthey must be linked out.

Extension LoudspeakersUp to two extension loudspeakers can beconnected across the [SPK+] and [H/O-] terminalson the control panel PCB. The volume for theloudspeaker is controlled by VR1 “SpeakerVolume”.

Installing a 515r PIR

The 515r Passive infra Red (PIR) is an indoordetector designed to work with the TS690R controlpanel. The detector has a fan shaped sensitivearea approximately 10 metres in radius.

Siting the 515r PIRYou can mount the unit either flat against the wall,or in a corner. The area covered by the detector isshown below:

Do mount the unit

l Between 2 and 2.5 metres high for the bestgeneral coverage in an average room.

l Facing a fire, boiler or window.

l Over a radiator.

l Near the floor.

l Close to or on large metal structures.

l Closer than one metre to mains wiring andmetal water or gas pipes.

l Inside steel closures.

l Next to electronic equipment, particularlycomputers, photocopies or other radioequipment.

l Closer than 3 cm to a ceiling (to allow spacefor dismounting the unit in the future).

Installation1. Open the detector by inserting a small flat

bladed screwdriver in the slot at the bottom ofthe case.

2. Install two "AAA" size alkaline batteries (notsupplied). Do not use rechargeable (NickelCadmium) batteries, because they are 1.2Vand not 1.5V.

3. Learn the detector (see "Adding Devices" onpage 33).

4. Mount the detector back box in its requiredposition using two 16mm countersunk headscrews.

5. Clip the body of the detector to the back box.

Testing1. Put the TS690R control panel into walk test

mode (user code + [ENT] + [2]).

2. Open and close the tamper for each PIR, thiswill put the detector in test mode.

+ After opening and closing the tamper,the detector remains in test mode for 30minutes. In this mode the detector has a30 seconds lockout time. At the end ofthe 30 minutes the detector reverts tonormal mode, with a 3 minute lockouttime.

3. Make sure the control panel receives thealarm from each detector.

4. Choose another site for the detector if thepanel does not receive the signal.

5. Wait 30 seconds with no movement in front ofthe detector before triggering it again.

6. Press [ESC] twice when you have finishedtesting, to put the control panel back in theopen mode.

Walk Testing and LockoutIn normal use the 515r uses a three minute lockouttimer in order to extend battery life. The lockouttimer operates as follows:

1. The unit detects movement, signals the controlpanel, and starts the lockout timer.

2. If the unit detects movement while the lockouttimer is running, then it restarts the lockout timerbut DOES NOT signal the control panel.

3. When the lockout timer expires the unit signalsthe control panel the next time it detectsmovement.

If you want to test a 515r PIR in normal uses youmust wait at least 3 minutes between activations.To make testing easier the detector changes thelockout period to 30 seconds for the first 30minutes after you put the batteries in or after youtrigger its tamper.

525r Remote Setting Device

The 525r remote setting device can be used toset, part set (part set A only) and unset the alarmsystem. In addition, pressing the "ARM" and "OFF"at the same time will cause a panic alarm. The525r is assigned as a detection circuit.

LearningSee "Adding Devices" on page 33.

Changing the BatteryThe battery used in the 525r is a Duracell DL 1/3N orCR 1/3N or K58L (Alkaline). The battery can beobtained from normal high street stockists.

1. Undo the screw holding down the batterycompartment cover.

2. Slide back the cover.

3. Replace the battery (make sure the batterypolarity is correct).

4. Replace the cover and tighten the screw.

Installing a 535r Universal Transmitter

The 535r universal transmitter is designed to workwith the TS690R control panel. The transmittersignals an alarm when the associated magnetmoves away from the case, and sends a restoresignal when the magnet is re-aligned.

Siting the 535r Universal TransmitterWhere possible, mount the unit close to the top ofthe non-moving frame of a door or window, andthe magnet on the moving part. If the frame is notwide enough, mount the magnet on the frameand the unit on the moving part.

6. Fit the body of the transmitter to the back box.

Connecting External Door ContactsYou can wire external normally closed devices tothe 535r universal transmitter. You can connectseveral contacts in series, but the control panel willtreat them all as one zone. Do not use more than10 metres total cable length from the 535r to thelast external contact.

1. Remove the wire links from the terminalconnector.

2. Connect the normally closed contacts asshown:

3. Make sure the internal reed shunt link is intact.DO NOT CUT.

If you remove the external contacts at a laterdate, make sure you replace the wire links on thealarm and tamper terminals.

Testing1. Put the TS690R control panel into walk test

mode (user code + [ENT] + [2]).

3. Trigger the tamper.

Connecting a PrinterThe TS690R supports two type of printers, the CPA6printer (no longer available) and any standardRS232 printer. When using an RS232 printer aDCI/MPA printer adapter will be required. MenvierSecurity supply a DATAC printer kit which consists ofa portable RS232 printer, charger unit andDCI/MPA adapter.

Using the CPA6 Printer1. Plug the CPA6 printer directly on to the PRINTER

plug (JP1) on the main control panel PCB.

2. The printer will printout a header, when finishedthe system event log can be printed.

3. When finished unplug the printer.

Using the DATAC / RS232 Printer1. Plug the DCI/MPA on to the PRINTER plug (JP1)

on the main control panel PCB.

2. Plug the other end of the DCI/MPA into theDATAC or RS232 printer.

3. In order for the printer to work correctly ensurethe printer is set to the following:

Baud rate = 4800Parity = NoneStop bits = 2Data bits = 8DTR = Normal

4. When set-up correctly the system event log canbe printed.

5. When finished unplug the MPA/DCI.

Programmable OutputsThe TS690R has many programmable outputswhich can be used to drive relays, LED’s etc. Eachoutput can be programmed for a differentfunction, see "Programmable Output Types" onpage 24.

Control Panel OutputsThe control panel has three programmableoutputs:

Pre Power-Up ChecksOnce the system is installed, but prior topowering-up, give the system one final check toensure that:

1. The wiring conforms to the requirementsdetai led in th is manual and that al linterconnections are correct (A to A, B to Betc.).

2. All system cables are kept clear of mainssupply cables, telephone cables and R.F.cables. It is recommended that cable ties beused to keep cables separated.

3. Verify that maximum cable lengths andresistance's are not exceeded.

4. Mains power supply cables to the system areconnected to an un-switched fused spur.

Initial Power-UpTo power the system for the first time:

1. Place a small screwdriver blade between thepins on the control panel PCB, marked“FACTORY RESET”. This will ensure the factorydefault parameters are set, see page 21.

2. Switch on the 240V mains supply and removethe screwdriver blade from the factory restartspins.

3. Check that the control panel and remotekeypads show “LID TAMP”. The internal sounderand remote keypad sounders will operate.

4. Enter the engineers passcode (default 1234) tosilence the sounders.

5. Connect the standby battery.

6. Enter the engineers passcode (default 1234) toselect engineer's menu 1. Once you havecompleted the “Power-up Checks” you cancontinue to program the system.

Power-Up ChecksWhen the initial power-up checks have beencompleted, check the following:

1. Switch off the 240V mains supply and measurethe DC voltage at each remote keypad andensure the voltage is greater than 11V whilstthe system is powered from its standby battery.

2. Switch on the 240V mains supply and measurethe DC voltage between the mains earthconnection and AUX +12V. Then measure theDC voltage between the mains earthconnection and AUX 0V. In both cases themeasurement should be 1V or less. If thevoltage is greater than 1V, the system has an“Earth Fault” and all cables should be checkedfor isolation to Earth.

Engineer’s Menu 1IntroductionEngineers menu 1 is the first of two engineersmenus, which is selected when the engineer’spasscode is entered. The engineer may leave“Engineer menu 1" by pressing the [ESC] key. Thesystem will return to the unset condition but theremote keypads will show ”ENGINEER ON SITE". Program Circuits [1.4]The TS690R can monitor up to 38 detectioncircuits. Each circuit must be programmed inorder for the system to respond correctly.

Circuit TypesThe circuit type defines how the circuit will respondwhen it is triggered. The following circuit types areavailable:

0 Not UsedA circuit that will never generate any alarm.

1 NightA circuit that will generate a full alarm when thesystem is set.

2 24hrA circuit which is monitored at all times. Whentriggered in the unset condition a local alarm isgenerated and when triggered in the setcondition a full alarm is generated.

3 PA SilentA circuit which is monitored at all times. Whentriggered it will activate any outputs that areprogrammed as P.A.

4 PA AudibleA circuit which is monitored at all times. Whentriggered it will activate any outputs that areprogrammed as P.A. and generate a fullalarm condition.

5 FireA circuit that is normally connected to a smokedetector. When triggered it will generate a firetone on the internal sounders, the externalsounders are pulsed for the bell duration andany outputs programmed as fire will beactivated.

6 AuxiliaryA circuit which is monitored at all times. Whentr iggered i t wi l l act ivate any outputsprogrammed as Auxiliary.

7 Final ExitThis must be the first detector or door contactthat is triggered when entering the protectedarea. When the setting mode for the system isprogrammed for Final Exit setting, openingand closing of this circuit during the exitprocedure will cause the system to set. Onceset, activation of this circuit will start the entrytimer.

8 Exit TerminatorA circuit that is normally connected to a pushbutton outside the protected premises, whichcan be used to finally set the system or area.

9 KeypointA circuit that may be connected to a keyswitchto allow setting and/or part-setting of thesystem. The keypoint circuit can only be usedwith the standard hard-wired circuits.The Keypoint circuit has two groups ofattributes. The first group of attributes controlswhich group is set/unset when the circuit isswitched between “Healthy” and “Active”. Thesecond group of attributes controls whichgroup is set/unset when the circuit is switchedbetween “Healthy” and “Shorted”.When programming the Keypoint circuit theeight standard attributes are not available,instead the attributes are used to select theKey Point operation as follows:[1] Full Set Mode - “Healthy” to “Active”.[2] Part Set Mode A - “Healthy” to “Active”.[3] Part Set Mode B - “Healthy” to “Active”.[4] Part Set Mode C - “Healthy” to “Active”.[5] Full Set Mode - “Healthy” to “Shorted”.[6] Part Set Mode A - “Healthy” to “Shorted”.[7] Part Set Mode B - “Healthy” to “Shorted”.[8] Part Set Mode C - “Healthy” to “Shorted”.

Circuit AttributesEach circuit type can have one or more attributesassigned to it to alter its operation. The followingcircuit attributes can be programmed:

1 AccessCircuits programmed with this attribute areautomatically isolated during the entryprocedure to allow a “walk through” route forthe user to access the remote keypad. The“Access” attribute can only be assigned toNight and Final Exit circuit types.

2 Double KnockCircuits programmed with this attribute will onlycause an alarm condition if:a) The circuit is activated twice within theDouble Knock window (this time may be set inthe System Timers menu).b) The circuit remains active for the wholeduration of the Double Knock window. The

“Double Knock” attribute can only be assignedto Night, 24hr and Auxiliary circuit types.

3 TestCircuits with this attribute will be disabled fromthe system for the period set by the “Test Time”(see System Timers). If the circuit is activatedduring this period the activation will be loggedand the user is informed of the circuit failurewhen trying to set the system. The test failmessage may only be cleared with theEngineers passcode. If at the end of the testperiod no activations have occurred thecircuit is automatically removed from test andbehaves as normal. The test period is initiatedby entering the Engineers passcode. The “Test”attribute can only be assigned to Night, 24hr,PA Silent, PA Audible, Fire, Auxiliary, PSU Battery,PSU Fuse and PSU Power circuit types.

4 OmittableCircuits with this attribute are allowed to beomitted by the user when setting the system.The “Omit” attribute can only be assigned toNight, 24hr, Auxiliary, PSU Battery, PSU Fuse andPSU Power circuit types.

5 ResetThis attribute is normally assigned to a circuitthat is connected to a vibration or smokedetector, so that during the “Detector Reset”period the circuit is not monitored. The “Reset”attribute can only be assigned to Night, 24hr,Fire and Auxiliary circuit types.

6 MonitoredCircuits with this attribute will activate the"T imed Output" when tr iggered. The“Monitored” attribute can only be assigned toNight, 24hr, Fire, Auxiliary and Final Exit circuittypes.

7 EntryCircuits with this attribute will initiate the entryprocedure when the system is part-set andrespond as normal when full set. This attributemust be assigned to all circuits that arerequired to initiate the entry procedure in thepart-set condition. The “Entry” attribute canonly be assigned to Night, 24hr and Final Exitcircuit types. When assigned to a 24 Hourcircuit type, the circuit can be used to initiatethe entry procedure. Once the system is unsetthe 24 hour will revert to normal operation.

8 ChimeCircuits with this attribute will cause the internalsounders and remote keypad sounders togenerate a two tone “chime” sound if thecircuit is activated. The users may enable ordisable the chime feature, or select it tooperate when the system is unset or part-set.The “Chime” attribute may only be assigned toNight, 24hr, Auxiliary, Final Exit and ExitTerminator circuit types.

System Timers [1.5]The system timers are as follows:

00 2nd Alarm TimeThis timer controls the duration of the “SecondAlarm” output. This timer has a working range of000-199 seconds.

01 No of Re-ArmsAt the end of the bell duration time the systemre-arms all circuits that are healthy. Circuits thatare still in an alarm are isolated until theychange to a healthy condition. This countercontrols the number of times that a "circuit" willre-arm before it is locked out of the system. Thiscounter has a working range of 000-199.

02 Settle TimeWhen setting the system by “Final Exit” or “ExitTerminator”, detectors that are on the exit routesometimes take 3-4 seconds to settle afteractivation. The delay programmed in this timeris used to allow these detectors to settle beforethe system or area is set. This timer has aworking range of 000-199 seconds.

03 Part Set Comms DelayWhen the system is part -set thecommunication of an alarm signal to thecentral station can be delayed by the valueset in this timer. If the timer is set to 199 thepart-set communications are disabled. Thistimer has a working range of 000-199 seconds.

04 Exit TimeThis timer sets the delay between the userinitiating the exit procedure and the system (orarea) actually setting. If during the exit time an“Exit Terminator” circuit is activated the exittime is cancelled and the system setsimmediately. This timer has a working range of000-199 seconds.

05 Entry TimeWhen the system is set or part-set, and the entryprocedure is initiated, the entry timer starts tocount down. If a valid user passcode has notbeen entered when the timer reaches zero,the internal sounders are activated and the“2nd Entry” timer is started. This timer has aworking range of 000-199 seconds.

06 Bell DurationThis controls the duration of the externalbell/sounder. If the timer is set to 199 the belloutput is continuous. This timer has a workingrange of 000-199 minutes.

07 Bell DelayThis timer delays the activation of the externalbell/sounder and internal sounders. This timerhas a working range of 000-199 minutes. Note:Any alarm during the entry procedure willcancel the bell delay.

08 Double Knock DelayThis is the “Double Knock” time window in whicheither two circuit activation must occur withinthis time to generate an alarm condition. Orthe circuit must remain active for the wholeduration of this time to generate an alarmcondition. This will only apply to circuits with the“Double Knock” attribute. This timer has aworking range of 000-199 seconds.

09 Test TimeThis timer varies the number of days that “Test”attribute may be applied to a circuit. If thetimer is set to 000 then circuits will remain ontest until the “Test” attribute is removed. Thistimer has a working range of 000-030 days.

10 Second EntryWhen the “Entry Timer” has expired the “2ndEntry timer” starts to count down, if at the end ofthis time the system or area has not been unsetthen a full alarm will be generated. This timerhas a working range of 000-199 seconds.

11 Abort DelayThis timer sets the period in which the alarmsignal may be aborted following an alarmcondition. When an alarm occurs, the “AbortOutput” (043) is only activated if the system isunset within this period. If the system is unsetafter this period the abort output is NOTactivated. This timer has a working range of000-199 seconds.

12 Monitor DelayThis timer affects the duration of the “TimedOutput” (No. 042). This timer has a workingrange of 000-199 minutes.

13 Part Set Bell DelayThis is a "Part-Set Bell Delay" and operates asfollows:a) If the "Pset Com.Dly" is set to 000 and analarm is activated whilst the system is part-set,

the "Bell Delay" timer is started. At the end of thebell delay the internal sounders are activatedfor the duration of the "Pset Bel.Dly". At the endof this delay the bell output is activated.b) If the "Pset Com.Dly" is not set to 000 andan alarm is activated whilst the system ispart-set, the "Bell Delay" timer is cancelled andthe internal sounders are activated for theduration of the "Pset Bel.Dly". At the end of thisdelay the bell output is activated.If the "Part Set Bell Delay" timer is set to 199 thebell output is not activated when an alarmoccurs whilst the system is part set. This timerhas a working range of 000 - 199 seconds.

14 Courtesy DurationThis timer is used to control the duration of theoutput type “Courtesy Light”. This timer has aworking range of 000-199 seconds.

15 AC Off DelayThis timer delays the “audible” mains offindication when the mains power is removed.The display and any outputs programmed as“Mains Off” are not affected. This timer has aworking range of 000-199 minutes.

Setting Modes [1.6]The setting mode for full set and each part set canbe configured to the following setting modes:

1 Final ExitThe system will set when the final exit circuit istriggered and when the settle timer expires.

2 Exit TerminatorThe system will set when the final exit circuit istriggered, the exit terminator button is pressedand after the settle timer has expired.

3 Timed ExitThe system will set when the exit timer expires orif the exit terminator button is pressed.

4 InstantThe system will set instantly.

5 DeferredAs timed exit, however, if any circuits areactivated during the exit procedure the exittimer is restarted.

Remote Reset Algorithm [1.8]When the system is programmed for “EngineerReset” the requirement to send an engineer to sitecan be overridden by the user by using the“Remote Reset” facility. If an alarm is generatedthe system will respond with a four digit “seed”code which the user quotes to the AlarmReceiving Centre or alarm company. The “seed”code is then entered into a decoder and a unique“Remote Reset” code is generated. This is passedback to the user and on entering the “RemoteReset” code, the system is reset.

The “Remote Reset” code is generated using analgorithm identified by a 3 digit number.Alternative algorithms can be selected but thesemust correspond to that used by the ARC (or alarmcompany) otherwise the “Remote Reset” code willbe incorrect. (Default = 004)

04 Enable DuressWhen programmed as “Yes” the reversal of thefirst two digits on any passcode will generate aduress alarm. When programmed as “No” thereversal of the first two digits on any passcodewill NOT generate a duress alarm. (Default =No)

05 Invert Abort O/PWhen programmed as “Yes” the abort output isnormally active and deactivates for 5 secondswhen an alarm is aborted. When programmedas “No” the abort output is normally inactiveand activates for 5 seconds when an alarm isaborted. (Default = No)

06 Monitor Polling SignalsWhen programmed as “Yes” the system willmonitor the polling signals from all wirefreedetectors. This is transmitted by each detectorevery 29 minutes. If this option is enabled andtwo consecutive polling signals are notdetected by the control panel, the panel willgenerate a tamper alarm. Whenprogrammed as “No” the system will notmonitor polling signals from wirefree detectors.(Default = Yes)

07 User ResetWhen programmed as “Yes" alarms can bereset by the user. When programmed as ”No"alarms can only be reset by the engineer or viaremote reset. (Default = No)

08 Fob can only Unset with EntryWhen programmed as “Yes" the 525r remotesetting fob can only be used to unset thesystem after the entry timer is started. Whenprogrammed as ”No" the 525r remote settingfob can be used to unset the system at anytime. (Default = Yes)

09 Passcode and "ENT"When programmed as “Yes", all passcodesrequire an additional press of the [ENT] key togain access to the system. Whenprogrammed as ”No", access to the systemonly requires the entry of the passcode.(Default = No)

10 Loud Chime TonesWhen programmed as “Yes” the chime tonesare always at full volume. When programmedas “No” the chime tones are at the level set byVR1 on the main PCB. (Default = Yes)

14 Invert Panel OutputsWhen programmed as “Yes"” the three paneloutputs on the control panel switch from 0V to+12V when active (+ve applied). Whenprogrammed as “No” the outputs on thecontrol panel switch from +12V to 0V whenactive (+ve removed). (Default = No)

15 Allow Set with AC OffWhen programmed as “Yes”, the system canbe set wi th no mains power. Whenprogrammed as “No”, the system cannot beset with no mains power. (Default = No)

16 Tamper Engineer ResetWhen programmed as “Yes" the any tamperalarm will require resetting by the engineer orremote reset. When programmed as ”No"tamper alarms can be reset by the user.(Default = No)

Add/Cancel Devices [1.A]This option allows the engineer to add and removewirefree detectors to and from the system.

Adding DevicesDevices are added to the system as follows:

1. Ensure that "E/MENU 1" is selected.

2. Press [A] to select the add/cancel devicesoption.

3. Press [A] to add a new device.

4. The display will prompt you to enter the devicenumber (01 - 30). Enter the device numberand press [ENT].

5. The display will sow "SHOW LED", align theactivity LED of the detector or remote settingdevice with the learn sensor on the main PCB(top right hand corner).

6. Trigger the detector by operating the tamperor pressing a button on the remote settingdevice.

7. The activity LED flashes and transmits a uniqueidentity code to the learn sensor. The controlpanel will give a rising multi-tone sound andthe display will show the device type learnt:

9. Press [ENT] to continue. If required, repeat fromstep 3 for other devices or press [ESC] to leavethis programming option.

+ If you enter a device number that iscurrently being used by anotherdetector the display shows "* IN USE*"when selecting the device at step 4.

+ If you try to learn the same device twicethe display will show "*ON SYS*" whentriggering the detector at step 6.

Removing DetectorsDevices are added to the system as follows:

Re-Map Keypad CircuitsThis option allows the engineer to re-map theremote keypad circuits. By default all wirefreedevices are allocated to circuits 01 - 30 andremote keypad circuits are allocated to circuits 31- 38. Using this option it is possible to re-map theremote keypad circuits to circuits 01 - 30. Forexample if your system of only uses 10 wirefreedetectors and one remote keypad, you canre-map circuits 31 and 32 (remote keypad 1) tocircuits 11 and 12 so that the circuit numberingremains sequential.

+ Wirefree detectors cannot be mapped tocircuits 31 to 38. To re-map a wirefreedetector it must be cancelled from thesystem and then relearnt to a new devicenumber.

Change Passcode [2.4]This option allows the engineer to change theirpasscode. The default passcode is 1234 but theinstallation engineer should change this to theirown personal 4 digit passcode.

Chime Circuits [2.5]This option allows an alternative method ofprogramming circuits as “chime”.

Print System Log [2.7]The system log stores 150 events, if a printer isconnected to the system it is possible to print aselected number of events. Once the printout hasbeen started it can only be stopped by selectedthis option again and entering “000” for thenumber of events.

Configure Part Sets [2.8]The TS690R can be configured to have up to threeparts set modes (Part Set A, Part Set B and Part SetC). This option allows the engineer to configureeach part set mode. Within each part set modeyou must designate which circuits will remainarmed and which circuits will be omitted. Whenthe user selects the relevant part set mode thesystem only arm the circuits that are designated asarmed and isolate the circuits that are designatedas omitted.

Only the circuit types “Night”, “Final Exit” and “Exitterminator” can be designated as omitted.

+ If the system uses a 525r remote settingdevice the "NIGHT" button is alwaysassigned to "Part Set A".

View System Log [2.9]The engineer can use this option to view thesystem log. The [A] and [C] keys allow you to scrollbackwards and forwards through the log events.

AppendicesSetup New UsersThe TS690R allows up to 10 users to operate thealarm system, each user is assigned a user typeand 4 digit passcode. User 01 is the master userwhich has a default setting of 5678.

User TypesThe following user types are available:

MasterUser 02-10 can be programmed as the type"Master". If the instal lation company hasprogrammed the master user for full access, he orshe will have access to all user menus and options.If the installation company has programmed themaster user for limited access, he or she will NOThave access to "User menu 2" options 6 and 8.

StandardUsers 02-10 can be programmed as the type"Standard". This user type can only access "Usermenu 1".

HolidayUsers 02-10 can be programmed as the type"Holiday". This user type allows the alarm system tobe set and unset, and access to `User menu 1'.However, the passcode is automatically deletedfrom the system when a master user passcode isused to unset the alarm system. Normally themaster user would assign this passcode type atemporary user whilst the they are away on holidayetc.

Set OnlyUsers 02-10 can be programmed as "Set Only".This user type allows the alarm system to be setand access to "User menu 1".

Reset OnlyUsers 02-10 can be programmed as "Reset Only".This user type allows 24hr alarms to be reset andaccess to "User menu 1" option 1 to 7 and 9.

DuressUsers 02-10 can be programmed as "Duress".When this user type is entered a silent "Panic Alarm"(i.e., Bell and sounders not triggered) is transmittedto the central station via the telephone line andremote signalling device (if fitted). The user will stillbe able to set and unset the alarm system andaccess "User menu 1".

+ All other user code types will generate a"Duress" alarm if the passcode is enteredwith the first two digits reversed (e.g., for astandard passcode of 2580 enter 5280 togenerate a "Duress" alarm). If required, thisfeature can be disabled by the installationcompany or by making the first two digits ofthe passcode the same.

PA CodeUsers 02-10 can be programmed as "PA Code".When this user type is entered a "Panic Alarm"' istransmitted to the central station via the telephoneline and remote signalling device (if fitted). Theexternal sounder(s) and strobe light(s) are alsoactivated.
