FortWhyte Mileage ChallengeTake part in the longest ‘race’ we’ve ever held. Registration gives you unlimited access to FortWhyte Alive from December – February! Participants use an online app to track their mileage by foot, wheel, ski, snowshoe–anything goes. Top finishers receive a prize!

Delta: A Prairie Marsh and Its PeopleDr. Gordon Goldsborough presents the story of Delta Marsh, the site of important research on wetland plants and animals. He will discuss the history of the area, as well as its deterioration, and what can be done to protect its future.

Open Fire Brewing with Barret MillerGet fired up about brewing! Craft honey ale and a fur-trade era recipe at the sod house. No experience necessary, we’ll practice basic all-grain and malt extract brewing techniques transferable to your modern kitchen at home.

Fly TyingManitoba Fly Fishers Association provides the guidance to learn this beautiful lesser-known art. For your tackle box or your mantle, “flies” mimic the insects found on rivers and in lakes with delicate and precise features. Learn a bit about aquatic entomology and take a few flies home to drive the local trout wild next spring.

Winter Survival CourseMaple Leaf Survival’s comprehensive course provides a solid base of skills and knowledge that you can use to keep yourself alive during a winter emergency. Topics include shelter and fire-building, navigation, rescue signalling and securing food and clean water. Equipment is provided and lunch is included.

Winnipeg’s first endurance fat bike-only race in happening at FortWhyte Alive this winter.Take on the challenge of a 10 km, 30 km or 40 km fat bike race through our pristine forests. Experience nature, the elevation, and the technical snow trails all on the comfort of your fatty. The day will be packed with fun things to do for the entire family! We will end the race with a lunch buffet, warm apple cider and a few local brews. All proceeds benefit environmental education at FortWhyte Alive. Organized by the fine people of Woodcock Cycle and 2 Wheel Revolution.
