I offer this resignation without joy, as I have taken great pride and satisfaction in working with the capable City officials, Department Heads, and employees who run our fine municipality. I have confidence in your abilities as Mayor, that Kingston has a bright future - indeed, in the first quarter of this year you have proven your mettle, continued to inspire those of us who supported your candidacy, and effectively silenced your detractors. I will return to my full time practice as an architect for clients in the Hudson Valley. Working as a part time official in this particular local government, while offering an irreplaceable experience in civics, can unfortunately be fraught with challenges for licensed professionals - attorneys, doctors, accountants, realtors, insurance agents, engineers, architects, and many of the 130 licensed occupations in New York - and thus present a disincentive for some of our most qualified residents to serve in public office. I wish you and your administration, Council President Jim Noble, the Common Council members I have had the pleasure to work with over the past two plus years, and everyone at City Hall the very best. Most importantly, I thank all of my constituents - it has been a distinct honor to serve the Third Ward and the City of Kingston. Sincerely yours, Brad Will cc: President Noble, Majority Leader Carey KINGSTON COMMON COUNCIL FROM THE DESK OF T (845) 616-8664 BRAD WILL, ALDERMAN F (845) 750-6332 MEMO 140 MAIN STREET, KINGSTON, NY 12401 [email protected]

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mayor Steve Noble Accepts Alderman's Resignation, Prepares to Appoint New 3rd Ward Alderperson

On Monday, Mayor Noble confirmed the resignation of Brad Will, Alderman of the 3rd Ward. Mayor Noble accepted the

resignation, effective April 8th, and expressed gratitude to Mr. Will for his time served on the Common Council.

"I want to thank Brad for his years of service as Alderman of the 3rd Ward,” Mayor Noble stated. “Brad has made

significant contributions in this role, particularly in the areas of historic preservation and environmental stewardship. I

wish him the very best in his future endeavors.”

Mr. Will’s letter of resignation references the challenges those serving as part-time elected officials may face while

pursuing their designated career professions.

“Kingston is a small city, one that presents a significant opportunity to engage with local residents and business owners

directly, and a unique challenge to avoid perceived or actual conflicts of interest,” Mayor Noble stated. “I believe that the

Council should be made up of residents with experience and expertise in a variety of relevant fields and that local business

professionals should have the opportunity to serve in this capacity, as their perspectives are vital in the Council’s process.

It is critical that all public servants effectively represent their constituents and that systems are in place to identify any

external factors which may impact this service. I am confident that we as a community will successfully navigate this

process.”

As determined in Article XIII: Common Council of the City of Kingston Charter, “If a vacancy occurs among the

Aldermen, such vacancy shall be filled through appointment by the Mayor for the residue of the term, unless otherwise

provided by law,” Mayor Noble must now appoint a Ward 3 resident to fill the vacant seat. In an effort to select an

individual who possesses the necessary qualifications, skills, experience and availability to fulfill this role for the

remainder of this term, Mayor Noble will appoint an individual following a short series of interviews.

“My primary focus is on selecting a replacement who can represent the constituents of the 3rd Ward in an effective manner

and who can bring with them the knowledge, skills and expertise Brad so passionately contributed. While this may feel

like a time of uncertainty, I am committed to ensuring the people of Ward 3 will soon be represented by an individual who

reflects their values and comprehensively vocalizes their concerns. I am aware of how critical this decision is and it will

not be made lightly.”

To be considered, individuals must be at least 18 years old, have their primary residence in the 3rd Ward, and must

immediately send a cover letter and resume to:

By mail or hand delivery: By fax: By e-mail:

City Hall 845-334-3904 [email protected]

420 Broadway (preferred method) (preferred method)

Kingston, N.Y. 12402

Resumes will be accepted until close of business on Wednesday, April 13th.
