When an elephant talks, everyone listens!
President’s
Corner
I am so proud to be your president for the next year and look forward to
hearing from you. I am open to any suggestions you may have regarding
our Sierra Nevada Republican Women. My goal for this next year is to
increase our membership. If each of you invited just one person to at-
tend a meeting. And that person did join our group, we could double our
membership. I am asking that you consider asking that one person to
our January 11th meeting. Jim DeGraffenreid, who is the Vice Chair-
man of the Nevada Republican Party will be our speaker. I know you
will enjoy hearing him speak.
Let’s make this new year a year of growth, participation, and education.
I look forward to talking to each and everyone of you.
Happy New Year.
The next meeting of the Sierra Nevada Republican Women will be held on

We continue to encourage you to invite your Republican neighbors and friends to join us for tasty lunches, interesting speakers and friendly
chats at CVI. We also encourage our current members to reach out to our guests and new members, introducing them to other members and
helping them to find seats at the luncheons. It is through continued mentoring to our new members that enable us to grow and retain our

Recommended Reading
Constitution Committee (Mary Porter)
In anticipation of the inauguration of President Trump and Vice-President
Pence, your Constitution Committee searched for a book that would provide a
perspective on the 2016 electoral process enjoyable to SNRW members. We
found something else, and with reservations, recommend P.J. O’Rourke’s How
The Hell Did This Happen? The Election of 2016, Atlantic Monthly Press. P.J.
O’Rourke is an award-winning political satirist. This book is due to be released
in hard copy in March 2017.
Satire can be captivating, but sometimes is difficult to digest. Our reserva-
tion stems from O’Rourke’s endorsement of Hillary Clinton. To quote a portion
of his (?) endorsement: “Hillary is wrong about everything. She is to politics
and statecraft what Pope Urban VIII and the Inquisition were to Galileo. She
thinks the sun revolves around herself. Hillary, I endorse you although you
don’t belong in power—you picture of self-satisfaction out of doors.” The ques-
tion is did O’Rourke actually help get Donald Trump elected through his en-
dorsement of Hillary Clinton?
In accord with the above recommendation, there also are some books,
potentially to be written, that deserve mention. The first is Hillary’s own It’s not
My Fault: How the Deplorables and the Russians Worked Together to Steal the
Election, co-authored by Huma Abedin. You also may want to look for Harry
Reid’s Lying Like a Rug, or Nancy Pelosi’s Guide to Legislative Procedure:
Don’t Read the Bill Until After You Voted.
If you did not find any of this month’s recommendations useful or interest-
ing, make a reading recommendation of your own. It will be passed along,
even if it is satirical.
