Frame Relay - Technical description

1 Frame Relay often serves to connect local area networks (LANs) with major backbones as well as on public wide-area networks (WANs) and also in private network environments with

leased lines over T-1 lines. It requires a dedicated connection during the transmission period. Frame Relay does not provide an ideal path for voice or video transmission, both of which require a steady flow of transmissions. However, under certain circumstances, voice and video transmission do use Frame Relay.

Packet switching - History

1 Baran's study made its way to Robert Taylor and J.C.R. Licklider at the

Information Processing Technology Office, both wide-area network

evangelists, and it helped influence Lawrence Roberts to adopt the

technology when Taylor put him in charge of development of the

ARPANET.https://store.theartofservice.com/the-wide-area-network-toolkit.html

Cisco Career Certifications - Professional certifications

1 Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification validates

knowledge and skills required to install, configure, and troubleshoot

converged local- and wide-area networks with 100 to 500 or more

end-devices. A valid CCNA certification is required to obtain a

CCNP certification.https://store.theartofservice.com/the-wide-area-network-toolkit.html

Human–computer interaction - Factors of change

1 * Ubiquitous computing|Ubiquitous communication. Computers are

expected to communicate through high speed local networks, nationally

over wide-area networks, and portably via infrared, ultrasonic,

cellular, and other technologies. Data and computational services will be

portably accessible from many if not most locations to which a user

travels.https://store.theartofservice.com/the-wide-area-network-toolkit.html

6LoWPAN

1 The 6LoWPAN group has defined encapsulation and header compression mechanisms that

allow IPv6 packets to be sent to and received from over IEEE 802.15.4 based networks. IPv4 and IPv6 are the work horses for data delivery

for local-area networks, metropolitan area networks, and wide-area networks such as the

Internet. Likewise, IEEE 802.15.4 devices provide sensing communication-ability in the wireless domain. The inherent natures of the

two networks though, are different.

WAN optimization

1 'WAN optimization' is a collection of techniques for increasing data-

transfer efficiencies across wide-area networks. In 2008, the WAN

optimization market was estimated to be $1 billion, and it will grow to $4.4 billion by 2014 according to

Gartner, a technology research firm.

surveillance and reconnaissance systems, and mobile command and control centers.

Internet usage - ATM and Frame Relay

1 Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) and Frame Relay are wide-area

networking standards that can be used to provide Internet access

directly or as building blocks of other access technologies

Transmission time - Packet delivery time

1 In case of a network connection mediated by several physical links and forwarding nodes, the network delivery time depends on the sum of the delivery times of each link, and also on the packet queueing time (which is

varying and depends on the traffic load from other connections) and the processing delay

of the forwarding nodes. In Wide area network|wide-area networks, the delivery

time is in the order of milliseconds.

Measuring network throughput - Ethernet

1 The way the frame is electrically defined on a connection between two

systems is different from the typically wide-area networking

technology that uses HDLC or PPP implemented, but these details are

not important for throughput calculations
