Co-op at Lakehead University At Lakehead, our Co-op experience involves instruction before, during, and after each work term. Each placement runs for a four, eight, twelve, or sixteen month period. Pre-Work Term: All Lakehead Co-op students participate in mandatory preparation sessions to help prepare them for their work terms The Co-op & Employer Relations Officer works with students and employers to ensure students engage in productive work approved for their level of experience During Work Term: Student work term performance is monitored by the Co-op & Employer Relations Officer, and students are supervised and evaluated by the participating co-operative employer Post-Work Term: Lakehead students must submit work term reports and performance appraisals, which are reviewed and evaluated after each work term Why Participate? The Co-operative Education programs at Lakehead University integrate academic studies with meaningful work experience in one of our eighteen Co-op disciplines; Each work opportunity is developed and/ or approved by Lakehead University’s Co-op Faculty Advisors to determine its relevance to the students’ academic program; Our Co-op students are eager to be engaged in productive work while developing their skills and providing support to an organization; Employers may benefit from employment support programs to subsidize student wages; The progress and on-the-job performance of each Co-op student at Lakehead University is closely monitored by the Co-op & Employer Relations Officer; Employers are recognized by the Student Success Centre as being active participants in the Co-operative Education Program Lakehead University endorses the above criteria established by the Canadian Association for Co-operative Education (CAFCE).
