This learning resource has been developed by the Ngarimu VC and 28th (Māori) Battalion Memorial Scholarship Board for tamariki of all ages, whānau, kura and schools. This learning resource aims to provide an inclusive and engaging learning experience that is easily accessible for tamariki and whānau. It is designed to encourage students of all ages to learn about the experiences of the 28th (Māori) Battalion soldiers, their whānau, and their communities during World War II. The resource respects and promotes the value of whānau and iwi sharing their 28th (Māori) Battalion stories. By exploring the stories and history of the 28th (Māori) Battalion, students will have the opportunity to increase their awareness and understanding of the contribution the 28th (Māori) Battalion soldiers and community made to whānau, hapū, iwi and the shape of our modern nation, Aotearoa New Zealand. Through learning about the courage and contribution of the 28th (Māori) Battalion to the country’s involvement in World War II, students will learn valuable lessons and apply them to their modern-day world, and to understand the past and present.
