In pondering Thanksgiving, I remember as a child the scrumptious feasts that mom, grandma and other relatives and friends would prepare.About a month before the big day,
the women would get together and decide who was going to roast the turkey, who was going to work on veggies and deserts. Everything had to be just right! And, of course, it just wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without mom’s tart and tangy fresh cranberry relish to compliment that large slice of white meat I was going to dive into!
The men and boys didn’t do a lot except get their fi ngers swatted for trying to snatch a taste of whatever was available out of sight of grandma’s watchful eye. Being from Michigan, the Detroit Lions football team was always playing that day and usually kept the men-folk out of trouble.
As things started to get a little quiet in the kitchen area, we knew the great banquet was about to begin. The aromas fl oating through the air were heavenly to say the least.
We knew though that things would be a little different this year. It was 1976. Dad had been having heart trouble and passed away in August of that year. He had always been the one to pray and give thanks for the meal and for the
provisions God had blessed us with throughout the year.
As we gathered around the table there was an impromptu moment of silence as we all sadly missed dad’s presence. Who was going to say grace? With quivering lips and stammering speech, my brother stepped up to the position. As we all shed a tear, we were also reminded that no matter how diffi cult the situation or how hard things may have been, our God had still provided for us in ways we couldn’t have dared imagined just a short year ago.
First Thessalonians 5:18 (NLT) says “No matter what happens, always be thankful, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” Despite what goes on in our lives and how diffi cult things may seem, we are to give thanks to the Almighty God who has supplied our every provision. He is faithful and gives us grace and comfort in time of need.
The employees and staff of Mays Mission for the Handicapped wish you a very happy and blessed Thanksgiving.

“It is good to give thanks to the Lord.” (Ps. 92:1)
Why? Because He is the only one who can, and has, blessed America. Our God has so abundantly blessed our nation since its inception hundreds of years ago. We went from a land of wilderness, dense forests and rolling plains to what we are today; the most prosperous nation in the world. Yet, in all of this blessing, are we neglecting to thank our provider?
It is great that we have a national day of thanksgiving.Hopefully it will remind us that whatever we do we are to do it “in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” (Col 3:17) In reality, everyday should be a day of “thanksgiving”
Besides the obvious blessings God has granted to us, take time to think about the unseen; His love, tender mercies and all-encompassing grace which He gives so freely. Without them, we may be living in a nation of dire straights.
Please make a sincere effort to make everyday a day of thanksgiving. In doing so, we please the Almighty. “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” Thessalonians 5:18
God bless you as you share the good news with others, and may every day be a day of thanksgiving for you.
Yours in Christ,
A. Kay Mansell

Mays Mission for the Handicapped is proud to announce that we recycled 17, 620 pounds of paper from our production department this summer. We have been baling the paper and storing it in our warehouse since purchasing our paper baler two years ago.
We have always recycled our paper but with this new paper baler we have become more e cient and hands-on with the recycling process.
We are a non-pro t charity and by baling our own paper we are able to bring funds raised from the paper bales back to our organization to be used where needed in our mission to assist the disabled. And as an added bonus our new recycling program gives more employment opportunities for disabled employees.
If you would like more information on helping people with disabilities call us today at 1-888-503-7955 or visit us online at www.maysmission.org. Thank you for your help.

A number of thoughtful people, desiring to honor the memory of a departed friend or loved one, are sending memorials in the form of contributions to the Mission. Families of those whose memories are so honored are noti ed of the contributions by an appropriate card, and the names are listed in an issue of our newsletter without mention of the amount of the contribution.
FREE REPORT You can help:
“Giving Thanks at Year-End”shuttle to and from the airport. Are they
accessible? All good questions to ask before
your arrival. All US cities that have a public
transportation system must provide paratransit.
A paratransit is a public transportation system
that is accessible to the disabled. Also
remember, most major car rental companies
provide "hand controls" for the driver licensed
to use them.
Finding an accessible Hotel
Probably one of the most frustrating
experiences in traveling is finding accessible
accommodations. Each room is different.
Each hotel/motel chain is different. Your
definition of "accessible" is not the same as
the next person's. It is your job to check out
the accessibility of each facility at which you
are lodging. Call the hotel directly to get
accessibility information. A central
reservation office person has more than likely
never been to the facility in question, let alone
are they qualified to determine accessibility.
Speak to the manager or a maintenance
person. They are more likely to be able to
answer specific questions about your needs.
The bottom line is for you to do your
research well ahead of time. You know what
is best for you - what is acceptable and what is
not. Be specific in your questioning. Ask
open-ended questions, not something that can
be answered "yes" or "no."
We wish you the best in your travels and
hope that you return safe, relaxed and satisfied
with your journey.
