Presentation Night
Our annual Presentation evening is being held this
Thursday 7 December at the Junee High MPC. The
event will commence at 6:30 pm. This is our celebration
of a wonderful year of achievement for our students. It
is a night where we recognize and award students for
their academic, sporting, cultural achievements.
Who will be our 2018 captains?
Presentation Night will also be a very nervous time for
21 of our Year 5 students. Last Wednesday 11 boys and
10 girls delivered some wonderful speeches to their
peers. We have a wonderful pool of students running –
any of whom would make wonderful school leaders.
Well done to our boy nominees: Jaxson Allen, Myles-
Cody Fletcher, Bailey Willis, Cooper Vanzanten,
Matthew Boyton, Tyler Heir, Luke Moon, Benjamin
Smith, Allan Cameron, William Holloway and Cody
Hackett. Well done to our girl nominees: Zoe
Fitzhardinge, Elizabeth Collins, Shallan Wright, Erica
Wooden, Maggie Hawke, Hannah Fitzgerald, Torah
Newman, Madeline Kemp, Chloe Masters & Caidence
Reberger. Votes have been tallied with 2018 School
and Vice Captains being announced at Presentation
Night.
2018 Staffing changes
We have some changes happening within our school in
2018. Sadly we will be losing the wonderful Mrs Emily
Dunn and Miss Rebecca Hyams – both of these ladies
have been employed in temporary capacities over the
past few years. Both have elected to seek other
experiences next year (including exciting travel plans!).
We will also not have Mrs Maree New or Mrs Viv
Hamilton who have worked in part-time temporary
roles. I would like to sincerely thank all of these
teachers for their wonderful dedication to our students
and to Junee North. We will miss you! Hopefully we
might see them back as visiting casual teachers. In
2018 we will see some new and familiar faces – some
in different capacities! We have Mrs Heather Brockwell
coming to us from Nulkaba Primary School. Heather
will be joining us on a Stage 2 class and she brings
with her a wealth of teaching experience, as well as lots
of amazing skills in dance, drama, art (she is a stage
manager for the Schools Spectacular!) and many more.
We can’t wait to meet her and see what amazing
experiences she will bring to our students!
Our teaching staff for 2018 will be:
Kinder Red – Mrs Justine McDevitt (Assistant Principal)
Kinder Blue – Mrs Tammy Makeham
Stage 1 Red – Mrs Alison White/ Miss Stephanie
Walters
Stage 1 Green – Mr Adam Baldock
Stage 2 Blue – Mrs Sue Davis
Stage 2 Green – Mrs Heather Brockwell
Stage 3 Blue – Mr Jared Maxwell (Assistant Principal)
Stage 3 Yellow – Mrs Lynne Shephard
Release from face-to-face (Years 1-6) –
Mrs Gabrielle Commins (Science &
Technology)
Release from face-to-face (Kindergarten) –
Mrs Helen Pattison
Librarian – Mrs Jo Reeves
Mrs Leigh Fitzgerald – Learning Support Teacher
Mrs Alison Higginson – Literacy/Numeracy Support
Miss Walters will continue to work as our Early Action
for Success Instructional Leader driving this K-2
initiative (Mondays – Wednesdays)
Mrs Pattison & Mrs Reeves will also work on Tuesdays
releasing teachers for sessions for collegiate planning
time. Next week parents and children will be advised of
their class teacher for 2018.
Happy holiday
Next Friday will be the last day of Term 4. We have
once again had an amazing year full of wonderful
opportunities for our students. I trust all of our Junee
North families will enjoy a happy, healthy and safe
holiday. I look forward to welcoming you all back in
2018.

5/6S Artwork launch
On Saturday 25 November the amazing artwork of the
5/6S students was launched at a very special ceremony
at the wagga Art Gallery. The students, led by the
wonderful Mrs Shephard, were part of a year-long
Aboriginal art program: Yalbayarra: telling to speak.
The students created a variety of artworks using ideas
from Aboriginal artists. The exhibition at the Wagga
Art Gallery is on until 7 January – go and check it out!

3/4M rocket launchers
For Home-Learning project this term we had to create
a space rocket to get us to Kepler 62E or 62F. Firstly,
we had to make a plan to make a space craft. The plan
was of our space craft. Then we had to add detail to
our plan of what we were going to add to our space
crafts. Next we had to make our rockets out of
different materials at home. After we made our space
crafts, we had to write a description to read to the class
of who we would take and why. Lastly we brought our
space crafts in to present to the class. Our class mates
would then mark us (peer assess) of our plan,
description, care we took and what materials we used.

Christmas on Broadway
Well done to all of our wonderful carol singers last
week. We had lots of very enthusiastic children dressed
in their Christmas gear join in with our choir.
Congratulations to Annabell Eccleston and Felicity
Davis who were the Year 6 colouring competition
winners.
2018 changes to our Award system
Following feedback from staff, students and parents
from surveys, student focus group surveys, and the Tell
Them From Me data, our Kids Matter team have been
working for the past few months on some changes to
our current award system. With any system, there
needs to be a regular review and several flaws were
found with our current levelled system.
In 2018 we will not have our tiered system. Some
changes will include:
There will not be a limit imposed on the
number of class merit awards.
Every student will receive a book for their
birthday.
Staff may nominate students to receive a
Principal’s Award.
Medallions will be presented at Presentation
Evening but students receiving these must
meet specific academic, personal growth &
wellbeing, and behavioural expectations.
A new House Points system will be
implemented with teachers giving raffle tickets
(in class, on the playground, in the library..) to
students displaying respectful, responsible
and/or safe behaviour. Students give these
tickets to their class teachers & a point is
awarded to their house. Captains will tally the
points each fortnight, with the winning house
having a special trophy displayed in the office.
Junee North Public School
Page 9
A special treat for the winning house at the
end of each term!
Reward days will be held Week 5 and 10 of
each term. These will be for all students on
Green Level (ie not on a Yellow, Orange or Red
behaviour card).
As well, we will be making some changes to our
assembly format – most notably moving it to a
fortnightly Thursday event. With our very crowded
curriculum, a weekly assembly has made it very difficult
to cover all curriculum areas. The format of our
assemblies will see a greater student-focus with
reports being presented by student groups.
As with all change, we will seek feedback from
students, staff and parents as the year progresses on
these changes.
