Who We AreAmref Health Africa is an international African organisation founded in 1957 as the Flying Doctors of East Africa to

provide critical medical assistance to remote communities in East Africa. It has since grown to comprise a full range

of medical and health-related services.

Amref Health Africa works with the most vulnerable African communities to achieve lasting health change. Amref

Health Africa believes that the power to transform Africa’s health lies within her communities. Amref Health Africa

works side by side with the people of these communities to build the knowledge, skills and means to transform their

health, laying foundations that will be felt for generations to come.

Amref Health Africa supports those at the heart of communities, particularly women and children, to bring about

lasting health improvement by transforming Africa’s health from within.

Partnership and networking are key elements of Amref Health Africa’s approach. Amref Health Africa learns from,

influences and partners with communities and community organisations; local and national governments and

ministries of health; national and international NGOs and networks; global and regional institutions and donors

to build long-term relationships and to ensure solutions are holistic and address the breadth of the communities’

health needs.
