Proper Asset Tagging
• Identification– Most important phase of asset’s life– Tagging is critical part of this phase
• Important decisions for tagging– Where to put the tag– Who tags it (and when)
Should be in your policy
Decisions for Tagging
• Where to put the tag– Must be visible– Standardized location
6.1.4 Tagging:…Tags will be placed in a conspicuous location that can easily be scanned during inventory. Tag locations for some items are standardized. Refer to DSHS Asset Tagging Guide.
Decisions for Tagging
• Who tags it (and prints it)– Interested, trustworthy person– Centralized – PM staff is best– Decentralized – Property
Coordinator/Administrator
6.1.4 Tagging:…Inventory tags will be affixed to the assets by the Inventory Coordinator for regions and hospitals, and by the PMO for Central Office.
Decisions for Tagging
• When to put the tag– Promptly after receipt– Before leaving warehouse/delivery point– Warranty replacements
6.1.4 Tagging:…Inventoried Assets will not be delivered to the user or put into use prior to placing the inventory tag on them.
